Abstract

This study explores the Bajapuik tradition in Minangkabau weddings, focusing on its embedded religious and social values. Specifically, it examines how this tradition fosters inter-family bonds while adapting to the pressures of modernization, including changes in social structure, gender roles, and economic challenges. Using a descriptive qualitative method and historical approach, data were collected through interviews with traditional leaders and cultural observers, as well as direct observation of marriage ceremonies in Pariaman. Findings show that Bajapuik is more than just a ceremonial custom; it reflects core Minangkabau values, including cooperation, family honour, justice, and spirituality. As part of a matrilineal society, the bride’s family offers symbolic respect to the groom’s family, an inversion of most bridewealth practices globally. Although the form and amount of Bajapuik have changed due to external influences and economic conditions, its cultural essence remains strong. Comparatively, Bajapuik shares social functions with mas kawin in Islamic tradition, dowry in South Asia, and bride price in African societies. Despite differences in direction and symbolism, these practices serve to affirm kinship ties, reinforce social status, and embody shared cultural values.

Abstract

Engklek, is one of the traditional games that have many physics concepts to explore, has the potential to be applied in Ethno-STEM-based physics learning. So far, no study has been carried out on exploring the physical concept of this game. Hence, this study aims to explore the concepts of physics in traditional Engklek game and its potential applications in Ethno-STEM-based physics learning. This study uses a qualitative research method with an exploratory design. Data collection using three methods: observations, interviews, and literature studies.Data were analyzed descriptively through three stages: data reduction, presentation, and verification or inference. The results show that the main physics concepts contained in this game are parabolic motion; work and energy; momentum and impulse; and equilibrium of rigid body. This game also can be applied to physics learning because it is relevant to the 2013 curriculum and the Ethno-STEM review. Therefore, the Engklek game can be more meaningful, fun, interactive, and contextual physics learning media. This research implies that the results of exploration and analysis of its potential application to Ethno-STEM-based science learning can be tested for future research or applied directly to physics learning. It is hoped that this learning can increase students' learning motivation while preserving the local wisdom game of Engklek

Abstract

The low level of students science literacy in Indonesia, as reflected in international assessments such as PISA, indicates that many students still struggle to understand and apply scientific concepts in real life contexts. This problem is often linked to the limited use of contextual and integrative learning approaches in science education. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the implementation of the STS approach to improve students' scientific literacy. The research method used is a SLR with a PRISMA design. Articles were collected from the google scholar database covering the years 2020 to 2025, and 20 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of the review indicate that the STS approach is effective in improving science literacy by strengthening students conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and environmental awareness through active learning methods and the integration of digital media. However, challenges such as limited teacher competence, lack of training, and insufficient learning resources hinder optimal implementation. Therefore, efforts to improve teacher professional development and develop contextual learning media are essential to maximize the success of STS based science learning

Abstract

The low problem-solving skills and self-efficacy of students in physics learning significantly impact their overall learning processes and outcomes. In order to address this issue, an inquiry learning model was implemented, along with the low-cost experiment tool. This learning model is designed to be valid and effective in enhancing students' problem-solving skills and self-efficacy. The research followed a non-equivalent control group design and involved 66 students to ensure the development of a high-quality learning model that meets the required standards and criteria. By utilising learning instruments, such as students' response questionnaires, problem-solving pre- and post-tests, and self-efficacy questionnaires, the focus of the physics topic in this research was the simple mathematic pendulum. The validity test results show that the learning instrument has high validity and reliability criteria, making it feasible to use in physics learning. Furthermore, the statistical effectiveness test results show that this learning model is effective in improving students' problem-solving skills and self-efficacy. As students engage in hands-on investigations and collaborate on meaningful projects, they are prompted to apply critical thinking and decision-making skills, directly contributing to the development of effective problem-solving strategies. The intrinsic motivation derived from successfully navigating the challenges of inquiry learning, coupled with the personal relevance of the content, nurtures students' confidence in their abilities, ultimately strengthening their self-efficacy as independent and capable learners. Research implies the development of innovative learning models, effectively enhancing students' PSS and SE.

Abstract

This study focused on the impact of differentiated learning based on ethnomathematics on students’ mathematical creative thinking skills, with particular attention to the influence of differences in their readiness and initial abilities. The aim of this study is to analyses the efficacy of ethnomathematics-based differentiated learning in enhancing students’ mathematical creative thinking abilities. The study was conducted with 47 students enrolled in the elementary school teacher education program at Yogyakarta State University. The data were collected using a pretest and posttest, employing a descriptive quantitative approach. The findings revealed a notable enhancement in mathematical creative thinking proficiency, with an initial mean score of 68.55 on the pretest, which increased to 86.10 on the posttest following the implementation of an ethnomathematics-based differentiated learning approach. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test, conducted on SPSS 25, indicates that the data are not normally distributed, as the significance value (Sig) is less than α. The Wilcoxon nonparametric test yielded an Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.001. The results demonstrate that ethnomathematics-based differentiated learning notably impacts students’ mathematical creative thinking abilities. This approach integrates local culture into mathematics learning, improving concept understanding and encouraging students’ active involvement in discussions and presentations. Developing an approach that combines differentiated strategies with elements of ethnomathematics makes a practical and theoretical contribution to mathematics education. This study confirms that the integration of local culture is relevant in mathematics learning and is essential for shaping future teachers who can create inclusive, adaptive, and meaningful learning environments.        Keywords: differentiated learning, ethnomatematics, mathematics creative thinking (MCT).DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1618-1634

Abstract

The phenomenon of differences in the implementation determination of Eid al-Fitr in 1418 H was regretted by the Indonesian people. Responding to the emergence of differences in the determination of 1418 H, KH Maimoen Zubair through his work Nusuus al-Akhyar fi Al-Shum wa Al-Iftihar intends to provide solutions to Muslims in Indonesia in facing the differences surrounding the determination of Eid al-Fitr. This type of research is qualitative research with the research approach used being discourse analysis initiated by Van Dijk. The data used in this study consisted of primary data and secondary data. Primary data are in the form of lexemes, words, phrases, and sentences in Arabic that contain ideas about the determination of the beginning of the month of Ramadan and Shawwal in the book. Secondary data come from sources, journals, print media, online journalism, and other scientific works to find out the context of social situations that can influence the writing of the book. Data collection methods in this study are interviews and literature study. The results showed that the linguistic aspect that stands out in the discourse of persuasion is the invitation to promote unity in the midst of controversy over differences in each group; the author's ideology appears in the title, the lexemes "judge" and "hilal"; the pronouns of the time and person in the text indicate that there is a different social context from the current condition. The social conditions that appear in the book are the differences in the method of determination by Indonesian Mass Organizations and the emergence of certain polemics in 1998.
