<![CDATA[This study focuses on the analysis of the illocutionary act in the Incredible 2 movie which contains various kinds of illocutionary acts. In this study, there are 2 problems that will be discussed, namely; What types of illocutionary acts are found in the Incredible 2 movie? and What is the meaning of the illocutionary acts shown in some of the character utterances in the Incredible 2 movie? This study used the theory of Searle (1979) about the types of illocutionary acts and theory of meaning by Leech's (1981) and is supported by the contextual situation theory by Halliday (1985). The data collected from the conversational interactions between characters in the movie Incredible 2 and the analysis used qualitative methods. The method used in presenting the data are formal and informal methods used to analyze 24 data that were found in Incredible 2. The result found expressive illocutionary act is the most commonly occurred with 10 or 41,6% data, and followed by commissive 6 or 25% data, directive 5 or 21% data, representative 2 or 8,3% data and declarative 1 or 4,1% data.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to find out the politeness strategy applied in the expressive utterances produced by the characters in Land before Time XIV movie. The data of this study is taken from the movie upload in Daily Motion website and movie script download from Fandon website. This study uses two theories, first from Brown and Levinson (1987) about politeness strategy to discover what types of politeness strategy that occurs on the expressive utterances in the movie. Second theory from Searle (1969) about the expressive function to find out what kind of expressive function found in the utterances. In this research, the method used to analyzed the data is qualitative research method. The result of this study found all the types of politeness strategy are applied in the utterances produced by the characters. Besides, all the characters are expressing some function of speech, there are showing regret, showing acceptance, appreciation, praising, condoling, complaining, and criticizing.]]>

<![CDATA[This study focuses on the person deixis used by James Corden in his utterances on the talk show The Late Late Show. The theory used in classifying the types of deixis and the category of person deixis found in this study is based on Levinson's (1983) deixis theory. Based on observations, person deixis is the most dominant type of deixis found in James Corden's speech on this talk show. The use of the type of person deixis used by James Corden is absolutely influenced by certain factors. Therefore, this study aims to describe how James Corden uses each category of person deixis and the factors that influence its use in talk shows. This research is limited to using only one episode of The Late Late Show and only examines the person deixis used by James Cordon. This qualitative study used observation methods for data analysis. There are 152 person deixis data used by James Corden in this talk show, which belong to the following categories of person deixis: singular first person deixis, plural first person deixis, singular second person deixis, plural second person deixis, singular third person deixis, and plural third person deixis. In addition, there are factors that influence the use of person deixis expressions, namely topics, situations, power, closeness and formality, and the speaker's goals.]]>

<![CDATA[This research deals with one kind of expressive illocutionary acts which is Attitude that produced and the meaning of the character’s utterances in the movie Holidate. The researcher used theories from Searle (1985) in order to find out the Attitude of Expressive illocutionary act. Meanwhile, to analyze the meanings of the character's utterance, the researcher used the theory that proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1985) regarding the theory context of the situation. Observation method and note taking technique is used in this study to collect the data from movie Holidate. This study used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing types of expressive illocutionary acts and meaning based on the context of situation. The results of this study show there are 19 data found in the character’s used an attitude expressive illocutionary act. In this movie there are a lot of Attitudes that are found in the utterances of all the characters, because this movie tells the life of two teenagers who are in love and full of tension.]]>

<![CDATA[This study entitled “Command Directive Illocutionary Acts found in Hobbs & Shaw Movie” It aims for finding out the command directive illocutionary acts and the context of situation of directive illocutionary acts utterance expressed by the main characters. The command directive illocutionary acts are discussed using the theory of directive illocutionary acts proposed by Kreidler (1998: 189-190) and the context of situation is discussed using theory of the context of situation proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1985: 12). In collecting the data, the writer watched the movie and marked the utterances that contain command directive illocutionary acts in the movie script. The method used in analyzing data was descriptive qualitative method. The writer classified the data based on the sentence structure of the command directive illocutionary act and then analyzes the context of the situation. In presenting the findings, formal and informal methods are used. The formal method is used to show the percentage of sentence structure of command directive illocutionary acts using table and the informal method is used to explain the data descriptively through words. In this study, 31 data were found regarding illocutionary acts of directive orders.]]>

<![CDATA[This study concerned the types and reasons of code-switching on three videos between Bunga Citra Lestari and Daniel Mananta’s conversation. The data source were taken from Bunga Citra Lestari’s YouTube channel entitled “IT’S ME BCL”. The data analysis was conducted a descriptive qualitative method. This study showed 3 types of code switching that found in the findings by applying Poplack’s theory (1980) as cited in Romaine (1989). Those types included intra-sentential switching, tag switching, and inter-sentential switching. The most type of code switching that dominantly occurred in this study namely intra-sentential switching. Those were appeared along the conversation between Bunga Citra Lestari and Daniel Mananta which aimed to convey the motivations through words, clauses, and phrases that were comfortable to be conducted in the second language. Moreover, this study also focused on the reasons of code switching by applying the theory proposed by Hoffman (1991). Those reasons could be divided into talking about certain things, quoting somebody else, showing empathy, using interjection, repeating something, clarifying the speech, and expressing group identity. The most reason of code-switching that dominantly occurred between Bunga Citra Lestari and Daniel Mananta’s conversation was talking about certain things. Those were occurred during the role of Daniel Mananta who was being an interviewer was asking several questions to Bunga Citra Lestari who was being an interviewee that automatically built up their conversation.]]>

<![CDATA[The phenomenon of elliptical sentence in the communication is an effective way to avoid the redundance, highlight the important information, and make a concise and clear context. The process of deleting the sentence constituent is observed through the theory that proposed by Kiss and Alexiadou (2015). This research investigates the elliptical phenomenon found in a novel entitled The Witches written by Roald Dahl that originally published in 1983 with 208 total pages. The total data that found in this research is 130 data out of all types consist of 12 data (9%) of VP-ellipsis, 9 data (7%) of sluicing, 35 data (27%) of NP-ellipsis, 34 data (26%) of fragment answer, 8 data (6%) of stripping, 2 data (2%) of gapping, 5 data (4%) of pseudogapping, 10 data (8%) of modal complement ellipsis, and 15 data (11%) of null complement anaphora. The highest occurrence in this study is NP-ellipsis with 27% out of 130 total data. Because there are a lot of sentences that specifically omitted in the noun phrase constituent.]]>

<![CDATA[The research discussed that discourses on tourism in social media often contradict the perspective of sustainable tourism. In engaging with public texts, students must develop a critical mindset to be able to filter information as well as to contribute their constructive ideas in solving problems in society. This could be developed as students learn some language skills in EFL, especially writing. The research applied a qualitative descriptive approach that focused on observing techniques, processes, and learning outcomes of writing skills by implementing Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The research used the participant observation method, where the researcher participated in the activities carried out by the group under study. The research population was students taking the English for Journalism course. The research sourced its textual material from selected online news articles and social media posts. The research involved several steps: student selection, questionnaire design and distribution, CDA and Sustainable Tourism training, feature article writing, writing assessment, and developing CDA integration models in learning. The findings show the positive impact of integrating CDA into writing instruction, notably by introducing the perspective of sustainable tourism. Students demonstrate enhanced critical writing abilities, enabling them to respond and contribute to more informed and thoughtful discussions surrounding tourism and sustainability to the content encountered on the internet that often contradicts the perspective of sustainable tourism. In engaging with public texts, students must develop a critical mindset to be able to filter information as well as to contribute their constructive ideas in solving problems in society.]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract This research concerns on code-switching from Indonesian-English language used by the people in Pod Hub podcast in Deddy Corbuzier YouTube Channel. Code-switching is a phenomenon that someone change their code/language from one to another. This habit is usually done by the bilingual people in their daily conversation. Nowadays many people like to use code-switching especially the teenager. The aims of this study is to find out the types of code-switching contained in Pod Hub YouTube video. This study used qualitative method to analyse the data by word description. The data were analysed by using the theory by Poplack (1980) to analyse the types of the code-switching contain in the video. The result shows the most dominant code-switching used in Pod Hub Podcast is intra-sentential switching with 60 utterances with the percentage 85%. Then followed by inter-sentential switching with 6 utterances with the percentage 8,6% and tag switching is the least with 4 utterances with the percentage 5,7%. Abstrak Penelitian ini menganalisis alih kode bahasa Indonesia-Inggris yang digunakan oleh orang-orang dalam podcast Pod Hub di Channel YouTube Deddy Corbuzier. Alih kode adalah keadaan dimana seseorang mengubah kode/bahasanya dari suatu bahasa ke bahasa lain. Kebiasaan ini biasanya dilakukan oleh para bilingual dalam percakapan sehari-harinya. Saat ini banyak orang yang gemar menggunakan alih kode terutama kalangan remaja. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis alih kode yang terdapat dalam video YouTube Pod Hub. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis data dengan deskripsi kata. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori Poplack (1980) untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis alih kode yang terkandung dalam video. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan alih kode yang paling dominan digunakan dalam Pod Hub Podcast adalah peralihan intra-sentential dengan jumlah 60 ujaran dengan persentase 85%. Kemudian disusul dengan peralihan inter-sentential switching sebanyak 6 ujaran dengan persentase 8,6% dan yang ter rendah tag switching sebanyak 4 ujaran dengan persentase 5,7%]]>

<![CDATA[Literary criticism teaching materials provided on campus only focus on theory and very few opportunities to appreciate literary texts directly through reading and understanding literary criticism published in various sources. Learning literary appreciation, including literary criticism, should not only be about memorizing literary theories, but also through practices such as reading and enjoying literary works directly, as well as appreciating the literary works read. The purpose of this research is to analyze the existence and contribution of digital literary criticism in the preparation of teaching materials for literary criticism. The design used in this research is qualitative. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative through data triangulation. The results of this study show that in the span of one year the average number of literary criticism published in digital media. The data shows that digital literary criticism still exists to provide color in the literary treasury regardless of the dynamics of the ups and downs of the number of literary criticisms published through digital media. Based on the information obtained through the distribution of questionnaires, it is known to contribute to the preparation of teaching materials for literary criticism. Regarding students' interest in digital literary criticism in literary criticism teaching materials, they successfully received a response with a high category. In conclusion, digital literary criticism enriches and expands the scope of teaching materials for literary criticism, making it more dynamic and adaptive to the latest developments in the world of literature and education.]]>
