Abstract

In the shadow of global silence, the Uyghur crisis in Xinjiang emerges not merely as a regional atrocity, but as a harrowing blueprint for 21st-century digital authoritarianism. This paper confronts China’s systematic campaign of Uyghur identity erasure—through mass internment, linguistic imperialism, forced labor, and AI-powered surveillance—and positions it as a defining inflection point for the global human rights order. Drawing from Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony, Phillipson’s linguistic imperialism, and Wallerstein’s world-systems theory, the study constructs a powerful interdisciplinary analysis that connects cultural domination with economic coercion and digital repression. Through comparative historical parallels and contemporary legal frameworks, the paper argues that China’s actions constitute crimes against humanity and cultural genocide. Yet this is more than a diagnosis—it is a call to action. The study calls on the world community to move beyond rhetoric and toward coordinated justice by laying out a bold, multi-pronged opposition strategy that includes legal responsibility, economic sanctions, educational resilience, media activism, and cybersecurity. In doing so, it reframes Xinjiang not as China’s internal matter, but as the world’s moral reckoning. The survival of Uyghur identity, and the credibility of human rights in the digital age, depend on our collective will to confront this dystopian template of repression—and dismantle it.
Can a Beard Speak Truth? Exploring Its Role in Muslim Intellectual and Cultural Identity Maspul, Kurniawan Arif; Mubarak, Islahuddin Ramadhan

Abstract

The Muslim beard, far more than facial hair, emerges as a dynamic symbol of faith, intellect, and resistance in a globalized world. Rooted in prophetic injunctions to “trim the moustache and grow the beard” (Sahih Muslim), this practice transcends grooming to embody Sunnah adherence, fitrah (natural disposition), and communal identity. Drawing on qualitative analysis of classical jurisprudence, sociological theories, and ethnographic interviews across the Middle East and Southeast Asia, this study reveals the beard as “lived theology” (de Rooij, 2020)—a marker of piety, scholarly gravitas, and political dissent. In Egypt, post-2011 beard-wearing symbolized reclaiming public space (Fahim, 2012), while Tajikistan’s 2015 crackdown, shaving 13,000 men (U.S. Commission on Religious Freedom, 2024), underscores its weaponization. Regionally, the beard adapts: from Gulf clerical authority to Southeast Asia’s blend of trimmed beards and songkok caps (Olivier, 2018). The study challenges homogenizing narratives, advocating for policies that respect diversity (e.g., Malaysia’s civil-service guidelines) and educational initiatives linking the beard to Islamic ethics and sustainability. This work sheds light on the function of the beard in negotiating modernity, facilitating interfaith discourse, and regaining Muslim identity in the face of secular and Islamophobic forces. It calls for stakeholders—educators, imams, policymakers—to transform this ancient tradition into a resilient, ethical emblem for the 21st century.

Abstract

In an era besieged by information overload and cognitive arrogance, this interdisciplinary study investigates the perilous “illusion of knowledge”—a phenomenon where overconfidence eclipses genuine understanding, exacerbating societal polarization and intellectual stagnation. Bridging modern neuroscience with Islamic epistemology, the research reveals striking parallels: the brain’s Default Mode Network (DMN), linked to self-referential biases and overconfidence, mirrors the Qur’anic concept of kibr (arrogance), while intellectual humility (tawadu’) emerges as both a neurological and spiritual antidote. Through hermeneutic analysis and global case studies—including Senegal’s daara schools and Singapore’s neuroscience-integrated madrasahs—the study demonstrates how pedagogical models blending metacognitive reflection with ethical discipline enhance cognitive flexibility, critical thinking, and empathy. Findings underscore that 80% of individuals overestimate their competence (Dunning-Kruger effect), yet Islamic practices like muhasabah (self-accountability) and adab (ethical inquiry) counteract this by fostering humility and error detection. The paper critiques algorithmic echo chambers and cultural conditioning, advocating for education systems that harmonize ancestral wisdom (e.g., hikmah) with neuroscientific insights to cultivate fitrah-aligned, morally grounded learners. Moreover this synthesis of prophetic wisdom and cognitive science offers a roadmap to dismantle epistemic arrogance, heal polarized societies, and reorient humanity toward curiosity, compassion, and ethical accountability

Abstract

The necessity for effective professional development (PD) in STEM education is more intense than ever. Shorter PD programs, on the other hand, are frequently more feasible due to time restrictions. The study looks into the most successful ways of designing and implementing short-term PD programs that provide significant results. Short-term PD programs can deliver intense bursts of improvement by focusing on dynamic training, personalized learning routes, and ongoing support. This study looks at how these programs can help educators modify their methods and improve student learning results. Collaborative networks and communities of practice are also essential for maximizing the impact of short-term PD. The transformative benefits can spread throughout schools and districts by creating relationships and boosting collaboration. This study demonstrates the potential for brief, meaningful PD programs to transform STEM instruction. Educators are embracing brief yet transformative professional development sessions and observing the enormous impact they can have on the future of STEM education.

Abstract

The integration of generative AI like ChatGPT into Indonesia’s international education ecosystem presents a transformative yet contentious frontier, poised to redefine pedagogical paradigms while amplifying systemic inequities. This study interrogates ChatGPT’s dual role as a catalyst for cognitive empowerment and a potential vector of exclusion in a nation fractured by urban-rural divides, linguistic diversity, and infrastructural deficits. Through a qualitative, multi-site exploratory design spanning five Indonesian international schools, the research triangulates classroom observations, educator focus groups, and policy analyses to uncover four critical themes: Pedagogical Reconfiguration, Ethical Tensions, Cultural Negotiation, and Infrastructural Inequity. Findings reveal ChatGPT’s capacity to democratize access to personalized, constructivist-aligned learning—evidenced by a 28% improvement in student narrative coherence—while exposing stark disparities: 40% of rural schools lack adequate connectivity, and Western-centric AI models often erode local cultural identity. The study positions Indonesia’s grassroots innovations—such as hybrid AI labs and Socratic dialogue simulations—as pioneering yet precarious, demanding urgent alignment with Pancasila values and UNESCO’s equity mandates. Strategic recommendations advocate for a trifecta of training (cultivating AI-literate educators), infrastructure (mobile-first, multilingual tools), and policy (rights-based frameworks harmonized with ASEAN AI governance). Crucially, the research underscores that ChatGPT’s ethical integration hinges on localized language models, community-driven tech hubs, and cross-sector collaboration to bridge Java-centric privilege with Papua’s marginalization. As Indonesia navigates this AI-inflected crossroads, the study issues a clarion call: Without systemic investment in digital justice and cultural intelligence, generative AI risks entrenching hierarchies it promises to dismantle, rendering equitable human flourishing not an aspiration but an algorithmically mediated paradox.
