Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Babbel platform in enhancing English pronunciation skills among senior high school students. Many students struggle with clear and accurate pronunciation, which affects their communication confidence and fluency. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Babbel platform in improving English pronunciation skills among senior high school students. A total of 25 students, selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria, participated in this cyclical action research. These students, with beginner- to-intermediate English proficiency, used Babbel’s pronunciation practice feature for 30-minute sessions. The research was conducted over one cycle, involving four phases: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. In the planning phase, activities were designed based on Babbel’s features to target students' specific pronunciation difficulties. The implementing phase involved practicing pronunciation with real-time feedback from the app. During the observing phase, pre- and post-tests were administered, showing a 61.6% improvement in pronunciation, with the mean score rising from 45.00 to 86.60. Semi-structured interviews provided qualitative insights into students' learning experiences. In the reflecting phase, both quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed to assess improvements in pronunciation. In the planning phase, activities were designed based on Babbel’s features to target students' specific pronunciation difficulties. The implementing phase involved practicing pronunciation with real-time feedback from the app. During the observing phase, pre- and post-tests were administered, showing a 61.6% improvement in pronunciation, with the mean score rising from 45.00 to 86.60. Semi-structured interviews provided qualitative insights into students' learning experiences. In the reflecting phase, both quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed to assess improvements in pronunciation. Results confirmed a significant enhancement in pronunciation skills and increased student confidence. Data validity was ensured through triangulation, incorporating pre- and post-test results, interviews, and observations. The findings suggest that the Babbel platform effectively improves English pronunciation and boosts learners' confidence, contributing to more effective communication.

Abstract

Pembelajaran materi pengayaan yang kontekstual di sekolah belum dilakukan karena tidak ada buku materi pembelajaran kontekstual yang menyajikan dari hasil penelitian. Faktor ini yang menjadi permasalahan utama mitra dan tawaran penyelesaiannya adalah dengan mensosialisasikan materi pengayaan keanekaragaman hayati khususnya kumbang indah yang ada di sekitar sekolah. Taman Wisata Alam Suranadi Pulau Lombok dekat lokasi dengan sekolah mitra. Pembelajaran berbasis lingkungan sekitar atau CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) siswa dapat melihat secara nyata, mengalami sendiri materi pelajaran yang ada di sekitar lingkungannya sehingga sangat menyenangkan. selanjutnya dengan CTL dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dibelajarkan dengan buku kontekstual yang berisi materi pelajaran yang ada di sekitar siswa. Hasil belajar siswa di SMAN sekitar Taman Wisata Alam Suranadi masih di bawah standar KKM 75. Metode kegiatan ini adalah sosialisasi, pembelajaran dan pendampingan. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini untuk mensosialisasikan berbagai jenis kumbang indah sebagai materi pengayaan keanekaragaman hayati di SMAN 1 Narmada. Setelah selesainya pelaksanaan kegiatan ini juga akan dilaksanakan pendampingan pembelajaran yang dilakukan guru untuk melaksanakan pembelajaran berbasis lingkungan. Hasil pengabdian sebagai berikut 1) telah dilakukan sosialisasi berbagai jenis kumbang indah indah sebagai materi pengayaan keanekaragaman hayati di SMAN 1 Narmada 2) peserta kegiatan pengabdian 100% mengikuti, menanggapi dan memahami materi sosialisasi. Kesimpulan sosialisasi berbagai jenis kumbang indah sebagai materi pengayaan keanekaragaman hayati di SMAN 1 Narmada dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini terlaksana dengan baik dengan antusiasme peserta kegiatan yang tinggi. Abstract

Kawasan Ekosistem Essensial (KEE) Bagek Kembar, Sekotong Lombok Barat, meliputi daratan dan perairan pesisir sangat penting artinya bagi masyarakat sekaligus paling besar menanggung beban akibat berbagai aktivitas di dalamnya. Aktivitas masyarakat di sekitar KEE Bagek Kembar, meliputi kegiatan pertanian, peternakan, perikanan, ekploitasi sumber daya alam dan jasa lingkungan. Menyadari pentingnya pelestarian sumber daya pesisir dan laut, maka diperlukan upaya nyata dalam pengendalian dampak negetif yang terjadi akibat berbagai aktivitas yang terjadi di dalamnya. Komunitas fitoplankton (mikroalga) seringkali digunakan sebagai tolok ukur kesehatan lingkungan perairan. Salah satu upaya pengendalian dimaksud di atas adalah melalui jalur pendidikan formal di sekolah yaitu penanaman cinta bahari sejak dini agar sumber daya kebaharian dapat dilestarikan dan pemanfaatannya bisa berkelanjutan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) Memperkenalkan komunitas mikroalga sekaligus meningkatkan literasi kebaharian pada siswa kelas alam SMAN 1 Sekotong, sebagai salah satu sekolah yang berada di wilayah KEE Bagek Kembar Desa Cendi Manik, Sekotong, Lombok Barat. Siswa kelas alam SMAN 1 Sekotong dilibatkan secara aktif dalam pembelajaran klasikal dan diskusi terkait materi tentang komunitas mikroalga dalam upaya peningkatan pengetahuan dan penguatan literasi kebaharian mereka. Kegiatan pengabdian ini diharapkan juga dapat menjadi penguatan dan pengayaan pengetahuan terhadap materi mata pelajaran biologi khususnya. Pengetahuan tentang komunitas mikroalga selanjutkan dapat memperkaya literasi kebaharian siswa kelas alam SMAN 1 Sekotong Lombok Barat. Dalam jangka panjang, kegiatan pengabdian ini diharapakan bisa menghasilkan suatu model pembelajaran terintegrasi guna meningkatkan literasi kebaharian siswa dimana pengetahuan kebaharian dimasukkan sebagai bagian dari bahan yang diajarkan (silabus) dalam pembelajaran materi biologi di sekolah, khususnya SMAN 1 Sekotong Lombok Barat.

Abstract

The objective of this developmental research is to develop a model of speaking instruction for tenth grader through whole brain teaching. The data of this study consisted of quantitative and qualitative data. The data sources were learners, teacher, and expert in speaking instruction design. Data were collected by using observation, questionnaires, and document. The speaking instruction were developed in four steps: (1) analyzing the existing speaking instruction, (2) carrying out needs analysis, (3) developing speaking instruction and (4) validating them. Data were analysed using percentages for quantitative data. Thematic Analysis is implemented to analyze the data. Thematic analysis that is one of method which used identifying, analyzing, and reporting patterns of themes in data and it minimally organizes and describes the data set in detail (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The result of this research was a theoretical model of speaking instruction based on whole brain teaching containing: the components of speaking and the procedure of whole brain teaching.

Abstract

The teachers’ speaking instruction is considered successful if the student’s skills in English speaking increase. There are still many teachers who still use conventional instruction in teaching speaking. The traditional approaches to language teaching only focus on teacher-centered. This can be proved by the result of observation at MTs Al Washliyah Kolam Junior High School. Teachers should adopt approaches that can help students develop their speaking skills in a holistic way. The theoretical model of this research uses Research and Development (R & D) method by using Borg and Gall model by limiting and simplifying it to just four steps, namely, Research & Information collection, Planning, Design of Product, and Expert Judgment. The result of this research: (1) The existing speaking instruction used by the English teacher at MTs Al Washliyah Kolam Junior High School still uses the traditional method. (2) Speaking instruction is needed by the students based on the data that the highest students need the Teacher’s help (80%) to speak English, the second rank students need to conclude the lesson (73,33%) when end the learning and give an example of speaking (40%) when speaking English. (3)The model is developed by the researcher to improve students' speaking skills is considered very relevant because the model created by experts was further developed for learning English speaking. (4) The result of expert judgment, the speaking instruction model through Metacognitive approach is valid and worth testing.

Abstract

In this era, Learning is a fundamental aspect that must be taken into consideration. An important step in the teaching process is developing the teacher's strategy and the student's learning style. The purpose of this study is to investigate the types of learning styles that students use when learning English. This study employs a qualitative research design. This study employs a case study methodology. This study was conducted from May 27, 2024, to June 1, 2024, at SMAS Al Hijrah II, located on Jl. Lau Dendang in Deli Serdang. Data is taken from the XI-grade students. Approximately eight students were sampled using purposive sampling. Wawancara and observation are used in data collection to gather data. The research findings indicate that there are four types of learning styles used by researchers: visual, auditory, read-write, and kinesthetic (VARK)

Abstract

Taman Wisata Alam (TWA) Kerandangan dihuni berbagai jenis flora dan fauna salah satunya burung gosong kaki merah (Megapoda). Burung ini sebarannya terbatas dan memiliki sejumlah keunikan, sarangnya berupa gundukan tanah bentuk lingaran, berdiameter mencapai belasan meter dan tinggi mencapai dua meter, telur dipendam di dalam tanah, sarang dibaangun gotong rotong dan digunakan bersama bersama oleh beberapa ekor induk burung. Keunikan ini merupakan potensi yang besar sebagai atraksi wisata dan sumber belalajr. Namun, potensi ini belum dimanfaat secara optimal, masih sangat terbatas karena kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat dan minimnya pengelolaan berbasis konservasi. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mensosialisasikan potensi Megapoda sebagai atraksi wisata berbasis edukasi dan konservasi di TWA Kerandangan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini melibatkan lima orang dosen dari program sarjana Pendidikan Biologi FKIP Universitas Mataram. Kegiatan pengabdian ini telah dilakukan dalam bentuk sosialisasi dan pelatihan kepada 25 orang peserta dari kelompok wisata Kerandangan Forest di Desa Kerandangan. Metode kegiatan meliputi sosialisasi, diskusi interaktif, pengamatan lapangan, serta evaluasi pengetahuan peserta sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai ekologi Megapoda dan pentingnya pelestarian habitatnya. Selain itu, masyarakat mulai menunjukkan minat dalam mengembangkan wisata edukatif berbasis konservasi. Kegiatan ini diharapkan menjadi langkah awal menuju pengelolaan wisata berkelanjutan yang melibatkan masyarakat lokal.

Abstract

Kegiatan sosialisasi hasil penelitian dilaksanakan di Kawasan Ekosistem Esensial (KEE) Mangrove Bagek Kembar, Lombok Barat, dengan fokus utama penyampaian temuan ilmiah terkait serapan dan kandungan karbon pada sedimen ekosistem mangrove. Sosialisasi dilakukan melalui pemaparan materi, diskusi interaktif, serta penyajian data penelitian yang menunjukkan bahwa sedimen mangrove di KEK Mangrove Bagek Kembar mampu menyimpan karbon hingga 583,41 ton C/ha. Sedangkan untuk serapan karbon sedimen mencapai ± 2.139,12 ton CO₂/ha. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai peran mangrove sebagai penyerap dan penyimpan karbon yang signifikan dalam upaya mitigasi perubahan iklim. Respon peserta sangat positif, peserta aktif berdiskusi, mengajukan pertanyaan, dan memberikan masukan terkait pengembangan pengelolaan mangrove berbasis konservasi. Antusiasme peserta menegaskan pentingnya diseminasi hasil riset guna mendukung pengelolaan mangrove yang berkelanjutan serta pemberdayaan masyarakat lokal.
