Abstract

Purpose- The research aims to know the implementation of the process of teaching speaking skill in a peer-teaching method in the Department of Arabic Language Education Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University Yogyakarta and Kendari State Islamic University.  Design/ Metodology/ Approach- This research is a descriptive qualitative research in which the respondents in this study were lecturers and students of speaking skills from UIN Sunan Kalijaga and IAIN Kendari. Data collection uses the method of observation and documentation. Data were analyzed with descriptive analytical method.  Findings- The results of this study indicate that learning speaking skills using the peer-teaching method was considered effective for students because all students were actively involved in the learning process. Lecturers use the peer-teaching method due to obstacles in the form of differences in students' abilities to speak Arabic and educational background. The steps taken in learning speaking skills with the peer-teaching method consist of three stages. First, preparatory stage consists of: (1) identifying the student environment to determine strategies, (2) determining groups, (3) determining the role of each member in the group, (4) training peers as tutors, (5) preparing learning materials, (6) preparing assessments. Second, implementation stage consists of: (1) peers teaching group members, (2) peers using the role of teacher for error correction procedures. (3) students take turns performing in groups. Third, assessment stage consists of: (1) evaluation after learning activities and (2) final evaluation.  Research Limitation/ Implications- The limitations of the problem in this research focus on learning speaking skills using the peer-teaching method and have not discussed other methods of learning speaking skills. However, this study describes the steps for learning speaking skills using the peer-teaching method from UIN Sunan Kalijaga and IAIN Kendari so that this good learning process can be implemented in other language skills.

Abstract

Kelas mutaqoddim melaksanakan kegiatan istima', penulisan makalah, latihan debat. (4) monitoring atau evaluasi; dilakukan kepada peserta kursus secara nonformal yaitu dengan penilaian akumulatif oleh tutor.

Abstract

Vocabulary is a crucial component of language acquisition and plays a key role in communicative competence. Mastery of Arabic vocabulary significantly influences overall language skills, making it essential for teachers to understand a variety of effective vocabulary teaching methods. This study aims to explore various Arabic vocabulary learning strategies by reviewing scientific articles published in Sinta 2 and Sinta 3 indexed journals between 2020 and 2024. The research employs a literature review method with a systematic approach based on Gough’s eight-step procedure. A total of 14 articles were analyzed to identify vocabulary learning strategies commonly applied. The findings reveal eight main methods: the use of mnemonic songs, Total Physical Response (TPR), sentence construction and writing techniques, language games, the Visual Auditory Kinesthetic (VAK) learning model, Think-Pair-Share strategy, cooperative learning, and imitation-based memorization. Additionally, the integration of digital tools such as Wordwall and online games proved to enhance vocabulary acquisition and learner motivation. These findings provide valuable insights for Arabic language teachers in selecting methods that align with learners’ characteristics and needs. The study recommends the adoption of varied and technology-supported approaches to improve the effectiveness of Arabic vocabulary learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and examine the validity and reliability of a contextual learning engagement scale for elementary school students. The scale was develop based on the learning motivation and behavior theory by Schunk, Pintrich, and Meece, and interest dimensions from Ainley. A quantitative approach using instrument development design was employed. Data analysis was conducted using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to evaluate the construct structure. A total of 330 students from grades 4, 5 and 6 were selected through cluster random sampling. The results revealed that the scale consists of four dimensions: learning enthusiasm, learning persistence, learning autonomy, and learning reflection. All dimensions met the requirements for construct, convergent, and discriminant validity, with Average Variance Extracted (AVE) values exceeding 0.50. Additionally, the reliability coefficients, including Cronbach’s Alpha and Composite Reliability, were both above 0.86. The model fit evaluation indicated that 9 out of 10 indices met the fit criteria. These findings demonstrate that learning engagement is a multidimensional construct that can be reliably measured in elementary education settings. The scale is expected to serve as a practical assessment tool for teachers, guidance and counseling, researchers, and policymakers in designing learning strategies that promote students active engagement.
