Abstract

Expensive land in urban centers encourages workers to migrate to the suburbs, creating worker mobility that increases energy consumption and worsens environmental quality. Therefore, understanding the relationship between worker mobility and energy consumption is crucial. This study evaluates the impact of worker mobility categorized as commuter and circular on energy consumption in Indonesia. We used the Extended Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology (STIRPAT) model with instrumental variables (IV) on panel data from 33 provinces during the 2013–2018 period. The results show that commuter workers do not significantly affect total energy and fuel consumption, but significantly increase electricity consumption. Conversely, circular workers contribute significantly to increased total energy, fuel, and electricity consumption. Other impacts include decreased health and disruption to social life, despite the economic benefits. This study contributes to the literature on labor and energy in developing countries, particularly regarding the aspect of non-permanent workers. These findings are also relevant as a basis for formulating sustainable development policies that consider economic, social, and environmental aspects in a balanced manner.

Abstract

The problem of poverty in countries with a Muslim majority can be overcome by optimizing the utilization of zakat. One form of zakat that has great potential to be optimized is income zakat or professional zakat.  According to the Pekanbaru Baznas, the potential for zakat could reach Rp90 billion. The method of data analysis in this study is to use a binary logistic regression model. This method was chosen because it is a standard analytical method when the outcome variable is dichotomous and is measured with a value of 1 or 0, where 1 = decision to pay professional zakat and 0 = decision not to pay professional zakat. The results of this study are the income variable has a positive and significant effect on Muzakki's decision to pay professional zakat in Pekanbaru City, which is 35.6%. However, the role of the government and the role of the ulama have no significant effect on Muzakki's decision to pay professional zakat in Pekanbaru City. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the variables of income, the role of the government, and the role of the ulama together have a significant effect, but partially the role of the government and the role of the ulama have no significant effect on Muzakki's decision to pay professional zakat in Pekanbaru City. Thus, in making a decision to pay professional zakat

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the mining and quarrying sector and the manufacturing industry sector on economic growth in Bengkalis Regency for the period 2011–2024. Economic growth is measured using Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at constant prices which describes the real economic performance of the region. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive approach and multiple linear regression analysis, based on secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bengkalis Regency. The results of the analysis show that partially, the mining and quarrying sector has a significant effect on economic growth with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Conversely, the manufacturing industry sector does not have a significant effect with a significance value of 0.539 > 0.05. Simultaneously, both sectors have a significant effect on economic growth with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and an Adjusted R² value of 0.926, which means that 92.6% of the variation in economic growth can be explained by these two sectors. These findings indicate that the economy of Bengkalis Regency is still dominated by mining and quarrying sector activities, while the manufacturing industry sector has not provided an optimal contribution to regional economic growth. Therefore, a strategy is needed to strengthen the processing industry sector through investment, technological innovation, and downstream development so that the regional economic structure becomes more balanced and sustainable.
