Abstract

In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 18/2008 on Waste Management, it is now necessary to change the way people view waste and how they treat or manage waste. For alternative solutions to the waste problem, the development of waste banks is a social engineering activity that teaches people to sort waste and fosters public awareness in waste management. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Beta Waste Bank in managing plastic waste in Hative Besar Village, Teluk Ambon Sub-district, Ambon City. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research involves collecting data about the role of Beta Bank Sampah in managing plastic waste in Hative Besar Village, Teluk Ambon Subdistrict, Ambon City, the location of this research is Hative Besar Village, Teluk Ambon Subdistrict, Ambon City. The subjects in this study were the founders of Beta Bank Sampah and the customers of Beta Bank Sampah, totaling 12 people. The variable in this study uses a single variable, namely the waste bank manager. However, the single variable will be described with reference to the LH parliament No. 13 of 2012. In this study researchers used several data collection techniques, namely, observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Based on the results of the research conducted, Beta Bank Sampah is a community that is actively engaged in efforts to maintain environmental balance by carrying out the process of recycling plastic waste into creations of economic value. good awareness efforts on environmental cleanliness especially on the impact of the threat of plastic waste that grows with the growth rate of society. and Beta Bank Sampah has helped the city government in realizing the clean Ambon program by reducing the use of plastic waste in people's lives.

Abstract

This study examines the suitability of land for the development of residential areas in Ambon City, based on the slope factor. The methods used include spatial analysis by utilizing Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data and the Ambon City Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW), as well as satellite image interpretation to identify suitable and unsuitable areas for residential development. The results show that more than 56% of the total planned land area is in the highly suitable category, while areas with steep slopes have a high potential for landslide risk. The discussion emphasizes the importance of settlement development focusing on safe and suitable areas, and the need for strict regulations to protect communities from disaster risks. The findings provide a strong basis for policy makers to formulate spatial planning strategies that are sustainable and responsive to the geographical conditions of Ambon City.

Abstract

Kecamatan Sirimau merupakan salah satu kecamatan di Kota Ambon yang sering terjadi banjir. Salah satu upaya awal untuk mitigasi bencana banjir yaitu dengan memetakan daerah rawan banjir di Kecamatan Sirimau. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memodelkan daerah rawan banjir Di Kecamatan Sirimau menggunakan metode Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA). Variabel-variabel penyebab banjir yang digunakan yaitu kemiringan lereng, ketinggian, penggunaan lahan, buffer sungai, jenis tanah dan curah hujan yang kemudian dilakukan overlay menggunakan metode Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA). Bahaya banjir di Kecamatan Sirimau dibagi menjadi tiga kelas yaitu kelas tinggi yang memiliki luas 540,09 ha atau 14,59%, kelas sedang seluas 1.607,14 ha atau 43,41% dan kelas rendah seluas 1.555,34 ha atau sebesar 42,01%. Daerah permukiman yang terdampak banjir di Kecamatan Seirmau berada pada kelas sedang seluas 660,16 ha (58,20 %) dan kelas tinggi yaitu seluas 474,21 ha atau sebesar 41,80 %. Desa yang memiliki presentasi luasan bahaya banjir terbesar pada setiap kelas bahaya banjir yaitu Desa Batu Merah. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu pemerintah dan masyarakat setempat untuk metigasi bencana banjir kedepannya.

Abstract

This research discusses the importance of a holistic approach to disaster mitigation through education for rural communities. Rural communities are vulnerable to natural disasters due to limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and dependence on the agriculture and fisheries sectors. A holistic approach through training, simulation and active community participation can improve preparedness, reduce risk and recover from disaster impacts effectively and sustainably. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study to analyze the importance of disaster mitigation through education for rural communities. The results show that collaboration between the government, community and private sector in disaster mitigation programs is essential. The implication of this research is the need for an increased holistic approach in disaster mitigation education to improve rural communities' awareness and resilience to natural disasters.

Abstract

Background: This study aims to analyze the development of built-up land in landslide-prone areas in Ambon City from 2014 to 2024, considering the increased disaster risk due to unplanned urbanization. Methods: The methods used include spatial temporal analysis utilizing Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 satellite imagery data, as well as landslide risk maps from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). Findings: The results showed that built-up land in high-risk areas increased sharply, from 429.91 hectares in 2014 to 951.65 hectares in 2024, potentially increasing vulnerability to landslides. Conclusion: The study recommends the need for stricter spatial policies and better risk management to control development in landslide-prone areas. In conclusion, wise management and integration of landslide risk maps in urban planning are essential to mitigate the negative impacts of land use change and protect communities from disasters. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study offers a unique contribution by combining spatial-temporal analysis using Landsat satellite imagery with landslide risk maps to assess the impact of unplanned urbanization on landslide-prone areas, providing new insights into the relationship between urban development and disaster risk in Ambon City.

Abstract

The development of built-up land in Southwest Maluku Regency (MBD) has been steadily increasing each year, as evidenced by the analysis of land cover changes in 2012, 2017, and 2022. Understanding the development and changes in land cover is crucial for predicting future land cover patterns and for preventing or mitigating potential negative impacts. This study aims to analyze the land cover changes in the Southwest Maluku Regency. The analysis of land cover changes in Southwest Maluku Regency was conducted using Landsat 4-5 TM, Landsat 8 OLI, and SPOT 7 imagery, which involved pre-processing and land cover classification processes based on the SNI 7645:2010 standard. The results of the study indicate that built-up land in MBD is generally concentrated in the Moa Lakor District, Letti Island District, and Terselatan Islands District. Tiakur Village has experienced the most rapid development of built-up land in MBD, as it is the capital of the Southwest Maluku Regency.

Abstract

Background: Ambon City, as the capital of Maluku province, faces serious challenges in water resources management due to rapid urbanization and climate change that affects rainfall patterns. This study aims to analyze the distribution of water catchment areas using Geographic Information Systems. Methods: This study used variables of rainfall, soil type, land use, and slope which were analyzed using Geographic Information System (GIS) approach with overlay technique. Findings: The results showed that the water catchment area in Ambon City with a rather critical condition has an area of 2,350.27 ha, good condition of 13,524.39 ha, starting critical condition of 2,827.62 ha, normal natural condition of 13,636.20 ha and very critical condition of 236.12 ha. This research shows that soil characteristics, land use, slope, and rainfall in Ambon City have a significant influence on the capacity of water catchment areas. Findings from analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) show that soil type, land use, and slope have a significant effect on water infiltration capacity, with alluvial soils having the best infiltration capacity. Conclusion: The results of this study emphasize the need for better management and strict implementation of spatial policies to protect water catchment areas, in order to reduce disaster risk and support sustainable development in Ambon City.

Abstract

The application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in analyzing landslide-prone areas in Ambon Island, Indonesia, is becoming increasingly important given the hilly geographical conditions of Ambon Island and its slopes, making landslides a frequent occurrence. This study used slope, soil type, rainfall, and land cover variables. This research used the Storie Index Method to analyze landslide prone areas in Ambon Island. The results showed that Ambon Island has a medium vulnerability level of 38,282.53 ha, a high class of 23,922.00 ha, and a low landslide prone level with an area of 21,676.08 ha. The results of this study are expected to be used as a policy recommendation for future landslide mitigation in Ambon Island.

Abstract

Land use change from vegetation to built-up land in Ambon City Center affects the increase of land surface temperature and creates the urban heat island phenomenon, which has the potential to affect local and global climate. The method used in this research is the analysis of Landsat 8 satellite images through Google Earth Engine (GEE), which enables efficient and accurate data processing. The analysis shows that the highest surface temperature in the region increases from 27.35°C in 2015 to 29.30°C in 2025, while the lowest temperature also increases. These findings confirm the need for attention to sustainable spatial management strategies to reduce the negative impacts of urbanization, maintain environmental quality, and improve the quality of life of people in Ambon City
