Abstract

Disaster management in the world has undergone a paradigm change that is from responsive to preventive, from sectoral to multi-sector, from government responsibility solely to joint responsibility, centralization to decentralization and from emergency response to disaster risk reduction. Based on 6 directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia delivered during the Rakornas PB (Disaster Management) at surabaya, February 2, 2019 one of which is "Regional development planning must be based on aspects of DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction)". Disaster risk-based regional development planning aims to reduce the impact of disaster risk including, threats, vulnerabilities, and capacity. Vulnerability assessment in areas that have the potential to experience disaster events is one of the important factors that must be reviewed in disaster mitigation efforts. Vulnerability assessment with the concept of data from wisdom allows local policymakers to recognize their specific situation in the broader context of a similar situation, providing regional perspectives and important connections between regions. Based on the efforts that have been integrated between the program into city spatial planning, it is hoped that it can increase the resilience of the City in facing disasters and adapt to climate change. Abstrak: Penanggulangan bencana di dunia telah mengalami perubahan paradigma yaitu dari responsif menjadi preventif, dari sektoral menjadi multi sektor, dari tanggung jawab pemerintah semata menjadi tanggung jawab bersama, sentralisasi menjadi desentralisasi dan dari tanggap darurat menjadi pengurangan risiko bencana. Berdasarkan 6 arahan Presiden Republik Indonesia yang disampaikan pada saat Rakornas PB (Penanggulangan Bencana) di surabaya, 2 Februari 2019 salah satunya adalah "Perencanaan pembangunan daerah harus berbasis pada aspek PRB (Pengurangan Resiko Bencana)". Perencanaan pembangunan daerah berbasis risiko bencana bertujuan untuk mengurangi dampak risiko bencana yang meliputi, ancaman, kerentanan, dan kapasitas. Penilaian kerentanan pada wilayah yang berpotensi mengalami kejadian bencana merupakan salah satu faktor penting yang harus dikaji dalam upaya mitigasi bencana. Penilaian kerentanan dengan konsep data dari kearifan memungkinkan para pembuat kebijakan lokal untuk mengenali situasi spesifik mereka dalam konteks yang lebih luas dari situasi yang sama, memberikan perspektif regional dan hubungan penting antar wilayah. Berdasarkan upaya yang telah diintegrasikan antara program tersebut ke dalam perencanaan tata ruang kota, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan ketangguhan Kota dalam menghadapi bencana dan beradaptasi terhadap perubahan iklim.

Abstract

Understanding the interaction between geographical factors and public health has become an increasingly important subject of research in medicine and global health. By utilizing available geospatial data, we can more deeply understand health patterns and health risks across Indonesia. Therefore, the background of this study underscores the urgency of research in the dynamic development of medical geography in Indonesia.  This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The type of research used is a literature study which is research that has been done before by collecting books, journals, magazines, and scientific papers that are interrelated with the research problems and objectives. Literature study is a data collection technique carried out by conducting a study of books or literature related to the problem being solved (Roller, 2019). The literature study database used is by searching on Google Scholar, Scopus, and Google Book. The search was conducted using keywords related to the development of medical geography in Indonesia and case studies of geographic information system utilization in the health sector. The results of this study provide a deeper understanding of how medical geography in Indonesia has evolved over time and has an important role in shaping a holistic view of public health. As a vast and diverse archipelago, the application of medical geography principles in Indonesia can make a significant contribution to improving planning, decision-making, and implementation of more effective and inclusive health programs. Abstrak: Pemahaman tentang interaksi antara faktor geografis dan kesehatan masyarakat telah menjadi subjek penelitian yang semakin penting dalam bidang kedokteran dan kesehatan global. Dengan memanfaatkan data geospasial yang tersedia, kita dapat lebih mendalam memahami pola kesehatan dan risiko kesehatan di seluruh wilayah Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, latar belakang penelitian ini menggarisbawahi urgensi penelitian dalam dinamika perkembangan geografi medis di Indonesia.  Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi literatur yang merupakan penelitian yang telah dilakukan sebelumnya dengan mengumpulkan buku-buku, jurnal, majalah, dan karya tulis ilmiah yang saling berkaitan dengan masalah dan tujuan penelitian. Studi literatur merupakan teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dengan cara melakukan studi terhadap buku-buku atau literatur yang berhubungan dengan masalah yang sedang dipecahkan (Roller, 2019). Basis data studi literatur yang digunakan adalah dengan melakukan pencarian di Google Scholar, Scopus, dan Google Book. Pencarian dilakukan dengan menggunakan kata kunci yang berkaitan dengan perkembangan geografi medis di Indonesia dan studi kasus pemanfaatan sistem informasi geografis di bidang kesehatan. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang bagaimana geografi medis di Indonesia telah berkembang seiring waktu dan memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk pandangan holistik terhadap kesehatan masyarakat. Sebagai negara kepulauan yang luas dan beragam, pengaplikasian prinsip geografi medis di Indonesia dapat memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan perencanaan, pengambilan keputusan, serta pelaksanaan program-program kesehatan yang lebih efektif dan inklusif.

Abstract

Forest cover change on Halmahera and Obi Islands in Indonesia is an important indicator for assessing natural resource sustainability and climate change mitigation in this biodiversity-rich tropical region. This study used Hansen Global Forest Change v1.11 data, which was processed and analyzed on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, to look at how forest cover changed from 2000 to 2023, using 30-meter resolution satellite images and lossyear bands to find out the years when deforestation happened. The results of the analysis show significant deforestation trends, primarily associated with intensive nickel mining activities, leading to the loss of thousands of hectares of forest cover each year, with peaks occurring in 2015 in Halmahera and 2002 in Obi. The discussion highlights that mining activities and land conversion are major factors in forest degradation, which not only impacts local ecosystems but also contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions. The use of Hansen's data and GEE-based analysis proved effective in continuous and accurate monitoring, supporting policy-making for conservation and more sustainable management of forest resources and mitigation of the impacts of human activities in the region.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan lahan di Kota Ambon dan kesesuannya untuk pengembangan permukiman. Pengolaha penelitian ini mengacu pada pedoman teknis analisis aspek fisik dan lingkungan, ekonomi, serta sosial budaya dalam penyusunan rencana tata ruang dengan menggunakan 7 satuan kemampuan lahan (SKL) Morfologi, SKL kemudahan dikerjakan, SKL kestabilan lereng, SKL kestabilan pondasi, SKL ketersedian air, SKL drainase, SKL terhadap erosi, SKL pembuangan limbah dan SKL terhadap bencana alam. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa sebesar 39.75% wilayah Kota Ambon berada pada kemampuan pengembangan sangat rendah. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa area dengan kemampuan lahan sangat rendah hingga rendah mencakup sebagian besar wilayah, sementara area dengan potensi tinggi untuk pengembangan sangat terbatas. Sebaran permukiman tahun 2025 sebesar 48,23% berada pada lahan dengan kemampuan pengembangan tinggi. Temuan ini menekankan perlunya kebijakan pemanfaatan lahan yang lebih berkelanjutan dan terencana untuk menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem serta mendorong pengembangan yang responsif terhadap tantangan urbanisasi di Kota Ambon.

Abstract

Ternate Island is part of the administrative area of Ternate City, North Maluku Province which was once the capital of the province and the center of government continues to experience physical development. This study aims to analyze the development of urban growth in Ternate Island in the period 2004-2032. The cellular automata markov chain method uses 2004, 2014 and 2024 land cover data and driving factors consisting of elevation, slope, distance from road and distance from POI to predict urban growth. The results of the analysis show that the urban area continues to increase in area, namely in 2004 the urban area had an area of 1,424.14 ha, 2014 an area of 1,728.45 ha and in 2024 an area of 2,010.78. The prediction results of urban growth on Ternate Island in 2032 show that the urban area has an area of 2,884.37 ha. Based on the research results from the application of the markov chain cellular automata method, it is hoped that these findings can be taken into consideration in designing a sustainable spatial arrangement of Ternate City. So that ecological balance, environmental balance and food security can be maintained and meet the requirements of a city that has the carrying capacity and environmental capacity.

Abstract

The background of this research focuses on the physical transformation of built-up land in the center of Ambon City from 1940 to 2025, influenced by historical, social, and economic factors, including the impact of riots and population growth. The tools and materials used in this research include thematic maps of land use from various periods, satellite images (Ikonos-2 and Planet Scope), and ArcGIS Pro software for spatial data processing. The method applied is an urban morphology approach with qualitative deductive analysis, which includes geospatial data processing to understand the pattern of urban development. The results of the discussion show that built-up land has increased significantly, although environmental challenges remain a major concern, such as the conversion of green land that impacts the carrying capacity of the environment. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the need for sustainable urban planning strategies to balance urban growth with ecosystem preservation in the future.

Abstract

The benthic biodiversity-rich but degradation-prone coastal waters of Pombo Island, Maluku, were mapped using high-resolution PlanetScope (3m) satellite imagery and field data through a random forest approach. The results showed the dominance of inner reef flat (54%) and sand substrate (39.62%), with 22.31% coral cover, while geomorphological analysis revealed a strong correlation between sheltered reef slope (18.78%) and benthic habitat distribution (85% classification accuracy). These findings not only prove the effectiveness of remote sensing technology for tropical ecosystem monitoring but also recommend zoning-based conservation strategies, particularly reef crest protection and seagrass rehabilitation, as a contribution to sustainable environmental management in line with SDG targets.

Abstract

The policy in dividing the KBI and KTI regions is intended to avoid development imbalances that occur in Indonesia. Development in Eastern Indonesia is considered disproportionate and only focused on the Western Region. But now the priority of regional development will be focused on Eastern Indonesia. As a large city in North Sulawesi that is included in Eastern Indonesia, Manado has a strategic location as an investment gateway to economic growth in Eastern Indonesia, this is the background for the development plan of Mapanget sub-district which is included in the Manado City area to become a new city center. This research aims to assess the feasibility of the Mapanget area as the object of this strategic project. The method used was a literature study in combination with the availability of secondary data obtained from research, records and provisions related to the analysis of new city development. Based on the results of the various elements of new city development such as residential areas, health and education facilities, trade, services and industry, and population accessibility have experienced large growth in the period (2007-2019) or in the last twelve years. In terms of development planning, there are also complete guidelines that are based on an in-depth study of various aspects, so it can be concluded that Mapanget Sub-district is strategic enough for the development of a New City in Eastern Indonesia. Abstrak: Kebijakan dalam pembagian wilayah KBI dan KTI dimaksudkan untuk menghindari ketimpangan pembangunan yang terjadi di Indonesia. Pembangunan di Kawasan Timur Indonesia dirasa kurang proporsional dan hanya terfokus di Kawasan Barat saja. Namun saat ini prioritas pengembangan wilayah akan difokuskan ke Timur Indonesia. Sebagai Kota besar di Sulawesi Utara yang temasuk Kawasan Timur Indonesia, Manado memiliki lokasi yang strategis sebagai gerbang investasi terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi di Timur Indonesia, Hal ini melatarbelakangi rencana pembangunan kecamatan Mapanget yang termasuk wilayah Kota Manado menjadi pusat Kota baru. Dilakukan penelitian yang bertujuan mengkaji kelayakan wilayah Mapanget sebagai objek dari proyek strategis ini. Metode yang dilakukan dengan studi literatur dan kombinasi dengan ketersediaan data sekunder yang diperoleh dari penelitian, pencatatan dan ketetapan yang berhubungan dengan analisa pembangunan kota baru. Berdasarkan hasil dari berbagai unsur pembangunan kota baru seperti wilayah hunian, sarana kesehatan dan pendidikan, perdagangan, bidang jasa dan industri, serta aksesibilitas penduduk telah mengalami pertumbuhan yang besar dalam periode (2007-2019) atau dalam dua belas tahun terakhir. Dari segi perencanaan pembangunan juga tersedia kelengkapan pedoman yang berdasarkan kajian mendalam terhadap beragam aspek, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa Kecamatan Mapanget cukup strategis untuk pembangunan Kota Baru di Kawasan Timur Indonesia.

Abstract

Tiakur City, the capital of Southwest Maluku Regency, has undergone significant physical development between 2015 and 2025, driven by population growth and economic activities. This study employs a quantitative approach using remote sensing technology with PlanetScope satellite imagery to analyze land cover changes. The analysis reveals an increase in built-up land area from 171.29 hectares (7.31%) in 2015 to 395.66 hectares (16.89%) in 2025, while non-built-up land experienced a decline. These findings indicate a rapid development rate and highlight the importance of sustainable spatial planning. In conclusion, understanding the patterns and intensity of land cover changes in Tiakur City is crucial for evaluating spatial planning policies and improving infrastructure development planning for the future.

Abstract

Flooding is among the most common hydrometeorological disasters in Indonesia, including in Ambon City. This research aims to evaluate Ambon City’s 2011–2031 Spatial Plan with a focus on flood vulnerability. Using the Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) method, six parameters influencing flooding were analyzed: landform, elevation, land use, river buffer, soil type, and rainfall. The results indicate that the flood hazard classes in Ambon City are predominantly low (22,461.27 ha), followed by medium (9,872.83 ha) and high (1,833.07 ha) hazard areas. Notably, 50.08% (2,222.06 ha) of settlements are predicted to be affected by high flood hazard, 49.91% (2,214.67 ha) by medium hazard, and 0.01% (0.39 ha) by low hazard. Among spatial patterns, medium-density residential areas represent the largest portion of flood-affected zones, covering 532.78 ha in the high hazard class and 1,899.45 ha in the medium hazard class. In the low hazard class, buffer zones (5,127.05 ha) and agricultural areas (4,074.65 ha) are most affected. Based on these findings, recommendations include strengthening drainage infrastructure, enforcing strict zoning for new developments, and enhancing community participation in spatial planning, with the goal of increasing regional resilience to flood disasters and promoting environmental sustainability
