Abstract

Perlocutionary act is a speech act spoken by a speaker to influence the interlocutors and can be found in the communication process. One form of communication process can be found in conversations between the characters in story from children's reading books. Perlocutionary act is uttered with different pragmatic functions according to the context of the speech. The objectives of this research are (1) to describe the functions of perlocutionary act in F-3 leveled reading book, and (2) to determine the dominant perlocutionary act function in F-3 leveled reading book. The research approach used in this research was pragmatic approach and qualitative descriptive approach. The data collection was conducted by using observation method with recording technique. After the data have been analyzed using heuristic method, the result of the research shows that (1) 12 perlocutionary acts are found in F-3 leveled reading book with five kinds of functions, which are the function of relieving, persuading, convincing, attention-grabbing, and scaring and (2) the most dominant perlocutionary act function in F-3 leveled reading book is relieving function with total seven speeches. This research is expected to give contributions to the academic study, especially in the field of pragmatic study.

Abstract

Science literacy is one of the problems of education in Indonesia that needs attention to be resolved immediately. The ability of science literacy in Indonesia is still low, which is evidenced by the International agency Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) through the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) to Children aged 15 years. This study aimed to (1) determine the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) aided by Performance Assessment of students 'scientific literacy abilities and , (2) to describe the students' scientific literacy abilities reviewed by Adversity Quotient (AQ). This research used a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample of this study ware students IV A (experimental group) and class IV B (control group) in SDN 1 Purwawinangun Cirebon. In this study data were taken using test instruments and questionners. Data analysis used were the normality test, the homogeneity test, and the average similarity test. Obtained data indicate that the class taken as samples in this study were normally distributed and have homogeneous variances. It means that the sample comes from the same condition that was having the same knowledge. N-gain test showed that the experimental group was 0.31 score as the medium category and the control group was 0.29 score as the low category. The finding showed that PBL model aided by performance assessment was effective for increasing students' scientific literacy ability were which indicated by student’s with PBL learning aided by performance assessment was by achieving complete scientific literacy on PBL aided by performance assessment better than students on PBL. The pattern of science literacy ability reviewed by AQ; a) climber students type were able to master both of the aspects applying and designing problem strategies. b) camper type students were mastered both of the aspect reasoning and able analyzed that given problems. c) quitter type students have ably mastered only the knowing aspect.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop the assessment instrument of performance integrated 4C to measure the science process skills in the experimental activities at elementary schools. This research applied the Research and Development method. The development design was adjusted with the ADDIE model. The subjects of the research were grade V teachers and students in the second semester of 2018/2019 academic year at SDN Karangmlati 1 Demak. Based on the results of this research, it was obtained that the assessment instrument of performance integrated 4C has a validity of 93.12%, meanwhile, the validity of the process skills test instrument reached to 91.87%. The reliability of the assessment instrument of performance reached to 0.95, whereas, the reliability of the science process skills test instrument reached to 0.88. The practicality of the instrument reached to 86.4%. The highest percentage of science process skills of the students grade V in the aspect of planning the experiment skills reached a percentage of 93% (very high). This research is expected to help teachers carry out assessments of performance objectively and fairly that have a positive impact on the quality of learning at schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Predict Observe Explain (POE) learning models for increasing critical thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students, analyze the Implementation of Outdoor Guided Inquiry learning models in increasing critical thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students, comparing the effectiveness of POE learning model and Outdoor Guided Inquiry in the critical thinking ability of fifth grade elementary school students. This research used a quasi-experiment with pre-test and post-test control group design. The population and sample taken in this study were all fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Sambong (eksperimen group) and SD Negeri 3 Sambong (control group), totaling 42 students. The experimental group was intervened by Outdoor Guided Inquiry while the control group by Predict Observe Explain.  In this study data were taken using test instrument and questionners. Data analysis techniques used in this study were independent samples t-test, and classical completeness test and N-gain test. N-gain calculation results show that the average in the OGI class is 0.61, and the POE class is 0.38, which means that the Outdoor Guided Inquiry model is better in improving students' critical thinking abilitis compared to the Predict Observe Explain model. Based on the t-test calculation of OGY and POE classes, ttable = 2.021 and tvalue = 4.265, so tvalue > ttable shows that the OGI learning model is significantly better than the POE model.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Guided Inquiry Model with SETS (Science, Environment, Technology, and Society) vision on communication skills and understanding the concept of science. This research design is quasi-experimental design. The data were obtained from a test and the experimental report assessment rubric. The analysis data was used quantitative analysis technique i.e effect size test, N-gain test, average difference test, and simple linear regression test. The result of the effect size value of the experimental class is 1.30 in the high category, while the control class is 0.59 in the moderate category. The mean score of the students' experimental reports was higher classically in the experimental class, namely 71 and 60 in the control class. The guided inquiry learning model with SETS vision is effective in improving students' understanding of science concepts. This is indicated by the average N-gain experiment 57.80> 39.70 N-control control and the average difference test results show the value of Asymp Sig. (2-tailed) of 0,000. (0.000 <0.05). Learning that familiarizes students with scientific thinking, finding concepts and connecting concepts with everyday life and communicating their thoughts both orally and in writing trains reasoning skills. This reasoning ability can develop communication skills in students and build understanding of concepts. This study concludes that learning the SETS Vision Guided Inquiry Model is effective in improving communication skills and understanding of science concepts

Abstract

This research was conducted because of the needs to empower the studensts’ environmental awareness character. This research aims to develop a bio-conservation learning model with waste management topics adapted from Project Based Learning model (PjBL) and inquiry and determine the influences of the bio-conservation learning model toward learning outcomes and students environmental awareness. This research is an ADDIE Research and Development. The model consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects consisted of 93 third graders of 02 Santo Antonius Primary School.. The techniques of collecting data were interview, observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The product was a module for teachers with several contents, such as the bio-conservation model's characteristics, goals, and syntaxes. The validation result obtained a percentage of 88.6%. The N-gain of the first experimental group was 0.072 with high criteria. On the other hand, the second experimental group obtained a percentage of 0.514 with moderate criteria. The understanding of environmental awareness attitude was obtained by using a questionnaire and observational sheets. The obtained criteria were categorized high, with average scores of questionnaire 87.2% and observation 85.9%. This research showed the influence of learning outcomes and environmental awareness attitude after using the bio conservation model. The model implementation's emerging characters were waste management and 3R activities (Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce).

Abstract

Distance learning is not a new alternative in the world of education, but this model is back in popularity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There is still very little literature on the implementation of learning during the pandemic so that it attracts the attention of researchers to analyze and describe the implementation of distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at Public Elementary School Grogolbeningsari to suppress the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with data analysis techniques, in the form of triangulation combining the results of observations, interviews, and documentation. The sample in this study was seven respondents at Public Elementary School Grogolbeningsari. The results showed that (1) Planning, schools review and readjust curriculum 2013, improve teacher quality, fulfill facilities and infrastructure, complete documents, and innovate to develop strategies applied during the pandemic. (2) Implementation, although learning is switching to online and offline, teachers must quickly adjust to the pandemic, and they are required to be able to master various platforms such as WhatsApp, Google Form, YouTube, Zoom, and Television Broadcasting which they can use to fulfill students' learning rights and provide meaningful learning experiences. (3) Evaluation, the teacher can give WhatsApp feedback in daily activities, but the school still uses written assessments in the Mid-Semester and End Semester Assessments. Education has faced many challenges during the pandemic. Therefore, a collaboration between school members is very influential on the success of distance learning.

Abstract

Science learning in elementary schools requires competent teachers and adequate learning facilities. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness and determine the responses of teachers and students to the application of the interactive video with PBL model in improving the scientific literacy of fifth-grade elementary school. This study used a quasi-experimental research design. The samples of this study were 18 students of class V SD Lerep 02 as the experimental class, and class V SDN Lerep 05 as the control class as many as 21 students. Data were collected using interview techniques, questionnaires, observations, and scientific literacy tests. Data analysis techniques using descriptive test, paired test, N-gain, independent t-test, and response analysis were also carried out to determine student and teacher responses to the applied learning model. The results of this study indicate that 1) the application of the interactive video with PBL model is effective in improving the scientific literacy of fifth grade elementary school students. These results are shown by the experimental class scientific literacy results which are significantly higher than that of the control class with an average value of 84.22% and the results of observations show that 60% of students in each post-learning scientific literacy can increase. 2) Students gave a very good response to the application of the interactive video with PBL model with an average response score of 87.22%. So, it can be concluded that the PBL learning model assisted by interactive video is effective in improving scientific literacy of students in elementary school.
