Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the role of educational da'wah within the Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiyah movement and to identify institutional limitations that affect its intellectual production. Educational da'wah serves as a fundamental foundation for promoting the renewal of religious thought in Indonesia; however, in the contemporary context, it faces institutional constraints that hinder the optimal use of education as a basis for knowledge production. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research design, analyzing relevant literature using historical-institutional, sociology of education, and capital theory approaches. The findings indicate that weak educational institutionalization directly affects the limited production of knowledge. The absence of representative higher education institutions, the limited accumulation of social, economic, and symbolic capital, and the lack of a structured academic cadre system have resulted in sporadic intellectual production that has not developed into a sustainable scholarly tradition. Therefore, strengthening Al-Irsyad requires institutional transformation through the development of higher education, the strengthening of academic cadre formation, and the establishment of an integrated and sustainable knowledge-production ecosystem. Keywords   : Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiyah, institutional limitations, knowledge production.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia’s ecological crisis is exacerbated by extractive economic models that degrade natural resources. As the two largest Islamic organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah possess strategic moral legitimacy to respond to this crisis. This study analyzes the eco-theological orientation of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah and identifies the gap between normative narratives and structural change. Employing a qualitative approach, this research uses literature review and document analysis of fatwas, congress decisions, and environmental programs from 2010-2024. The findings show that the eco-theological orientation of both organizations remains predominantly normative-communitarian, focusing on moral education, ecological da’wah, and local micro-actions. While effective in raising awareness, this approach has not addressed the root causes related to macro political-economic policies and unequal resource governance. To bridge this gap, this article proposes the concept of “structural eco-theology” as an alternative framework. Structural eco-theology integrates Islamic theological foundations with public policy advocacy, cross-sector coalitions, and corporate accountability mechanisms. This framework directs religious moral legitimacy to promote regulatory reform and natural resource governance toward systematic and sustainable ecological justice. Abstract

ABSTRACT Mongolia’s language policy, which designates Mongolian as the state language and main medium of instruction, has affected the vitality of the Kazakh language in Bayan-Ölgii. This study examines the implications of this policy on the linguistic identity of Kazakh adolescents using an ethnolinguistic approach. Drawing on Fishman’s framework of language maintenance and shift and Edwards’ theory of language and group identity, this study synthesizes literature and education reports from 2005–2025. The findings show that the formal education domain has undergone Mongolization: Mongolian dominates core subjects, examinations, and certification, while Kazakh is reduced to a subject with limited hours. In contrast, Kazakh remains strong in family and community domains as a symbol of ethnicity, family closeness, and Islamic affiliation. This condition produces asymmetrical bilingualism and dual linguistic identities that adolescents negotiate at school, at home, and in digital spaces. The article recommends mother-tongue-based bilingual education, Mongolian-as-a-second-language teacher training, and support for Kazakh-language digital ecosystems to slow language shift and strengthen Kazakh maintenance in Mongolia. Keywords         :           asymmetrical bilingualism, Bayan-Ölgii, Kazakh minority, language identity, language maintenance

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the paradox of French secularism or laïcité, which promises universal equality but instead results in structural exclusion for Muslim communities. Using a qualitative approach with a literature review, this research applies Philippe Bourbeau's securitization theory framework to examine various legal documents, public policy texts, and media discourse from 1905 to 2023. The main findings show that the principle of laïcité has undergone a transformation of function from a foundation of state neutrality to an instrument of securitization that legitimizes institutionalized Islamophobia. Data analysis reveals that state and media actors systematically frame Muslim identities and their religious attributes as an existential threat to republican values, leading to social alienation. This study concludes that national cohesion can only be achieved through a paradigm shift from a security approach to an inclusive model of secularism based on human rights that accommodates pluralism without discrimination. The novelty lies in integrating postcolonial critique with Bourbeau’s securitization to explain gendered Islamophobia in French laïcité. Keywords : Laïcité, Structural Islamophobia, France.
