Abstract

Olak Kemang Village, located along the Batanghari River in Jambi City, has strong potential to be developed as a tourism village based on Jambi Malay culture, river tourism, traditional culinary products, and local handicrafts such as Jambi batik. However, limited structured and participatory management has constrained the optimal utilization of these resources. This community service program aims to enhance community awareness and strengthen institutional capacity in managing local tourism potential sustainably. The objectives include providing training and education on tourism village development, establishing and mentoring a Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), identifying and documenting cultural, river, and culinary tourism potential, and developing digital promotional media. The program applied participatory methods consisting of training, mentoring, field observations, documentation, and digital media development involving community members and relevant stakeholders. The targeted outputs include the establishment of an active Pokdarwis, documented tourism potential mapping, a tourism promotional video with an approximate duration of three minutes, active tourism village social media accounts, and the publication of scientific or popular articles related to the program. This initiative is expected to initiate community-based tourism management, encourage sustainable local economic growth, and position Olak Kemang Village as a model tourism village based on local wisdom, thereby enhancing the tourism attractiveness of Jambi City

Abstract

This study delves into the multifaceted factors that influence government expenditure and its subsequent effects on public welfare, with a particular focus on its impact on economic growth. Government spending plays a pivotal role in shaping economic development, enhancing public welfare, and alleviating poverty. By conducting a systematic literature review, this research methodically evaluates a range of pertinent sources to gain a comprehensive understanding of these dynamics. The findings indicate that strategic government expenditure, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, education, and technology, is instrumental in driving economic growth and improving public welfare outcomes. Investment in infrastructure not only facilitates more efficient business operations but also creates jobs and improves living standards. Similarly, funding education ensures a more skilled workforce, which can foster innovation and productivity. Investments in technology can lead to advancements that spur economic development and enhance quality of life. However, the study also emphasizes that the effectiveness and optimal allocation of government spending are critical factors in realizing these benefits. Effective expenditure strategies, therefore, must be well-planned and targeted. The insights derived from this study provide valuable guidance for policymakers in crafting expenditure strategies that aim to achieve sustainable development and long-term economic stability.

Abstract

This scientific paper seeks to evaluate the ability of local taxation as a source of income, the level of tax participation and the efficiency of the tax collection mechanism in Jambi City budget 2018-2022. The analytical methodology used in this research includes descriptive and qualitative approaches. Descriptive analysis incorporates computational methods that are illustrated in the form of numerical data, tabulations, and graphical representations. In the meantime, the qualitative aspects include conducting intense interviews that are analyzed using SWOT. Based on the findings from the analysis of local tax effectiveness covering from 2011 to 2023, it reveals that the efficiency of local taxation shows variability in different years. Based on existing literature and comparisons between studies that have been conducted, tax optimization can be carried out in Jambi City in line with the principle of fiscal decentralization in regional autonomy by enforcing regulations to ensure the creation of sustainable development and economic growth. Some of the things that can be done are increasing tax compliance, digitalization and simplifying the tax structure. This discussion produces input to the Jambi City Government to explore the potential of local revenue, which influences the growth of Regional Own-Source Revenue (PAD). Therefore, optimal development can lead to positive outcomes for the community, such as the economic growth of people in Jambi City and the optimization of tax revenue.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of e-commerce on economic growth in Indonesia using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. E-commerce has become a significant global phenomenon, and Indonesia is projected to have the highest e-commerce growth rate in the world in 2024. With an e-commerce trade value reaching 78%, Indonesia shows great potential in this sector. The study finds that e-commerce contributes significantly to increased productivity and efficiency, broader market access, and technology and innovation adoption by SMEs. However, challenges such as technology access, digital literacy, and infrastructure remain obstacles. The study emphasizes the need for policies that support the enhancement of digital infrastructure and training for SMEs to optimize e-commerce potential. Relevant policy implications can help the government and stakeholders maximize the benefits of e-commerce for national economic growth. By using the SLR approach, this study provides a comprehensive and integrative analysis of the impact of e-commerce on economic growth in Indonesia and presents strong empirical evidence of the causal relationship between the two. The study also offers recommendations for future research, including the use of primary data, regional analysis, international comparative studies, and attention to social and environmental impacts. Additionally, further research into policy and regulatory effectiveness, the role of technology and innovation, longitudinal studies, and collaboration with the private sector is also recommended. Thus, this study makes an important contribution to understanding and leveraging e-commerce potential for sustainable economic growth in Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesia is the ruler of areca nut exports in the world and 40% of Indonesia's total areca nut exports come from Jambi. The research was focus by Jambi’s strategic role in national areca nut production and exports, alongside persistent constraints in the upstream subsystem of agribusiness especially limited capital, production-cost variability, and uneven breeder capacity to consistently meet certification standards. A survey based descriptive quantitative approach was employed. Primary data were collected through structured interviews using questionnaires from three purposively selected certified breeders (from five existing units) who met the criteria of business ownership, a minimum of two years of operation, and active participation in certification. Secondary data were sourced from BPS and relevant provincial agencies. Analysis focused on fixed and variable cost components, total revenue, farm income (TR–TC), and feasibility using the Revenue–Cost (R/C) ratio. Results show that the average total production cost reached Rp 183,266,666/year, comprising seeding costs of Rp 71,889,427 and nursery costs of Rp 111,377,239. Average total revenue was Rp 692,156,067/year, generating an average income of Rp 508,889,401/year (= Rp 42,407,450/month). The mean R/C ratio was 3.5, indicating financial feasibility (R/C > 1). However, substantial income disparities among breeders suggest that scale, managerial capability, and cost control critically determine profitability. Strengthening cost efficiency, optimizing nursery land (including yard-based expansion), and improving compliance support for certification are recommended to enhance sustainability.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to analyze the determinants of poverty in the provinces of Sumatra for the period 2015–2024, focusing on the Human Development Index (HDI), unemployment rate, Provincial Minimum Wage (PMW), and economic growth, as well as formulating poverty alleviation strategies. The study is motivated by the persistent disparity in poverty levels among provinces, indicating uneven economic development. Background Problems: Poverty disparities across provinces in Sumatra indicate that economic development outcomes are not evenly distributed, despite the region’s significant contribution to the national economy. Research Methods: This study uses secondary panel data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The analysis employs panel data regression with the Random Effect Model (REM) and is complemented by Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) analysis for strategy formulation. Finding/Results: The results show that partially, the Human Development Index (HDI) has negative and significant effect on poverty, while the unemployment rate has a positive and significant effect. Meanwhile, the Provincial Minimum Wage (PMW) and economic growth do not significantly affect poverty, as indicated by probability values greater than 0.05. Conclusion: This study finds that poverty in Sumatra is primarily determined by human capital quality and labor market conditions. Human Development Index (HDI) has a significant negative effect on poverty, while unemployment has a significant positive effect. In contrast, economic growth and the provincial minimum wage (UMP) are not statistically significant, indicating that economic growth remains non-inclusive and does not directly reduce poverty.

Abstract

The dominance of the United States dollar in the global financial system has persisted for decades and has influenced the economic stability of developing countries. Dependence on the dollar makes developing countries vulnerable to exchange rate fluctuations, United States monetary policy, and global economic pressures. Therefore, the phenomenon of dedollarization has emerged as an effort to reduce dependence on the dollar through the use of local currencies in international trade and the diversification of foreign exchange reserves. In this context, the BRICS group plays an important role in promoting the dedollarization agenda and expanding economic cooperation among developing countries. This study aims to analyze the development of dedollarization and the expansion of BRICS in strengthening the economic resilience of developing countries, particularly Brazil, Russia, India, Indonesia, and Egypt. The research method employed is a qualitative descriptive approach using secondary data in the form of foreign exchange reserves, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), exchange rates, and international trade indicators during the 2015-2024 period. Data were obtained from various official sources such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and publications from the central banks of each country. The results indicate that dedollarization policies and the expansion of BRICS contribute to strengthening the economic resilience of developing countries through increased foreign exchange reserves, diversification of international trade, and stronger regional economic cooperation. Russia and India demonstrate relatively stronger economic resilience due to their large foreign exchange reserves and substantial economic capacity. Meanwhile, Indonesia and Egypt still face various structural challenges in improving economic stability and global trade capacity.
