Abstract

This article aims to explain the concept of Muhammadiyah ideology philosophically and ideologically, analyzing its manifestation in the preamble to the articles of association and bylaws (AD/ART), seven philosophies, and the role of 17 groups of verses in the Qur'an in shaping the character of cadres. This study uses philosophical and ideological analysis methods with a literature review approach, referring to fundamental documents and thematic interpretations used by Muhammadiyah. The results of the study conclude that Muhammadiyah's ideology is a comprehensive system rooted in tawhid, emphasizing righteous deeds, ijtihad, knowledge, and morals for social transformation towards khairu ummah. These core principles are manifested in the seven main ideas of the preamble, operationalized by the AD/ART, deepened by the seven philosophies, and crystallized for self-development through 17 groups of verses from the Qur'an. This ideology guides Muslims towards a just, progressive society based on the values of tawhid.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan metode ilmiah dalam penyusunan tesis oleh mahasiswa Magister Pendidikan Agama Islam (MPAI) Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada pemahaman mahasiswa mengenai aspek ontologis, epistemologis, dan aksiologis metode ilmiah serta bagaimana nilai-nilai keislaman diintegrasikan dalam proses penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi proses bimbingan dan seminar akademik, serta analisis dokumen proposal dan tesis mahasiswa. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi, penyajian, serta verifikasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa memahami langkah-langkah prosedural metode ilmiah, namun masih terdapat kendala dalam penerapannya secara filosofis, terutama pada aspek epistemologi dan aksiologi. Penelitian juga menemukan bahwa nilai-nilai keislaman seperti kejujuran ilmiah, tanggung jawab moral, dan orientasi kemaslahatan mulai terinternalisasi, meskipun belum diterapkan secara konsisten. Dukungan dosen pembimbing dan pedoman akademik menjadi faktor pendukung utama, sementara keterbatasan literasi metodologis dan kurangnya refleksi filosofis menjadi faktor penghambat. Dengan demikian, penguatan pemahaman metode ilmiah berbasis filsafat ilmu perlu dioptimalkan dalam proses pembimbingan tesis di MPAI UMSU.

Abstract

Islam merupakan agama yang sempurna dan menjadi pedoman hidup bagi seluruh umat manusia. Ajarannya mencakup seluruh aspek kehidupan, mulai dari keyakinan (akidah), ibadah, akhlak, hingga hubungan sosial. Namun, seiring berjalannya waktu, sebagian umat Islam mengalami kemunduran dalam berbagai bidang, seperti ilmu pengetahuan, ekonomi, dan moral. Banyak ajaran Islam yang tidak lagi diamalkan secara murni sebagaimana pada masa Rasulullah saw. dan para sahabat. Kondisi ini menyebabkan munculnya berbagai bentuk penyimpangan dalam praktik keagamaan, seperti takhayul, bid‘ah, serta perpecahan di antara sesama umat Islam. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, muncul gerakan pemurnian dan pembaruan dalam Islam yang dikenal dengan istilah tajrid dan tajdid. Dalam konteks keagamaan, tajdid merujuk pada upaya untuk mengembalikan ajaran Islam kepada sumber aslinya, yaitu Al-Qur’an dan Sunnah Nabi Muhammad SAW, sekaligus menyesuaikannya dengan perkembangan zaman tanpa meninggalkan prinsip-prinsip dasar ajaran Islam. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan jenis penelitian Search Library (Studi Pustaka) dengan pendekatan kualitatif, kemudian hasil penelitian dideskripsikan secara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kedua pergerakan tersebut membawa Islam kepada perubahan dari masa kemunduruan hingga mengalami pemurnian dan pembaharuan.

Abstract

This study analyzes the concept of Progressive Islam in Muhammadiyah's Statement of Beliefs and Ideals of Life (MKCH) as an ideological response to the challenges of modernity in the organization's second century. The MKCH, formulated at the 46th Congress in 2010, is a crystallization of Muhammadiyah's progressive thinking that seeks to bridge authentic Islamic values with the needs of the contemporary era. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach through content analysis of MKCH documents and related literature. The results show that Progressive Islam in the MKCH represents three main dimensions: first, a theological dimension that emphasizes a substantive-progressive understanding of Islam; second, a methodological dimension that uses a rational-ijtihadi approach in responding to social change; and third, a practical dimension that embodies the values of progress in a social-transformative movement. The transformation of thought in Muhammadiyah's second century shows a shift from a purification movement (tajdid) to a more inclusive and contextual enlightenment movement (tanwir). MKCH is an ideological foundation for Muhammadiyah in facing the complexities of modernity without losing its authentic Islamic identity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies of Aqidah Akhlak teachers in instilling religious values, the implementation of steps to form religious character, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors at MTs PAB 1 Helvetia. The study used a qualitative descriptive method. The results show the teachers' implementation of habituation, role modelling, and reinforcement strategies through routine activities such as prayer, tadarus, yasinan, and congregational prayer. The implementation is carried out through continuous guidance, supervision, and evaluation. Supporting factors include madrasah culture, teacher commitment, facilities, and parental support, while obstacles include differences in student discipline, limited family support, a less conducive external environment, and challenging classroom supervision. Teacher strategies play an important role in shaping students' religious character.

Abstract

Globalization and rapid digital development have increasingly challenged students’ moral conduct (adab), particularly within Islamic educational institutions, as exposure to unfiltered digital content, social media influence, and external cultural values contributes to declining discipline and ethical behavior. This study examines how Islamic schools can effectively address these challenges through character-based adab education. The objective of this study is to analyze the strategies used in forming students’ adab based on Islamic character education in response to globalization dynamics at MTs Muallimin UNIVA Medan. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving Islamic education teachers, homeroom teachers, counseling teachers, and students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to ensure the credibility of the findings. The results indicate that students’ adab formation is implemented systematically through teachers’ role modeling, religious habituation, the integration of adab values into classroom learning, religious and extracurricular programs, and persuasive, humanistic guidance. A religious school culture, teacher consistency, parental involvement, and structured institutional programs support these strategies. However, challenges remain, including the influence of social media, external peer environments, and limited parental supervision. Overall, Islamic character-based adab education at MTs Muallimin UNIVA Medan is effective in strengthening students’ moral resilience and ethical awareness, enabling them to respond wisely and responsibly to the challenges of globalization and the digital world.
