Abstract

Children who come from families of circular migrant workers with separated parents and children have their own challenges in order to continue to be motivated to continue their education. This study aims to analyze the influence of father's perception of children's education, provision of educational facilities, and child-parent communication on adolescents' motivation to continue school in families of circular migrant workers. This research is a quantitative study with a non-probability sampling method through snowball sampling technique. The number of participants in this study were 40 children and 40 fathers. The results showed that the higher the father's last education, the more motivation for children to continue their education. Meanwhile, the greater the number of children can reduce the motivation to continue education. Other results showed that fathers' perceptions were in the moderate category. Provision of children's education facilities and child-mother communication have a significant positive relationship and effect on increasing motivation to continue schooling. Motivation to continue school in both dimensions is in the low category, namely intrinsic motivation (40%) and extrinsic motivation (70%). Future research is expected to examine perceptions of children's education through the perspective of migrant worker family mothers.

Abstract

Distance Learning (PJJ) has been ongoing for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As the pandemic subsided, the government decided to resume face-to-face learning in the classroom. For pesantren that have not conducted face-to-face learning for a long time, this condition requires new adaptations, especially in reviving students' academic motivation. This study aims to analyze the effect of teacher-student interaction and friendship quality on the academic motivation of modern pesantren students after PJJ. This study involved 112 modern pesantren student respondents and was conducted with an explanatory study design. Data collection was self-administered at school through questionnaires distributed directly in class. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and inferentially, including correlation tests and multiple linear regression tests. The correlation test results showed that adolescents' education level was significantly negatively related to teacher-student interaction. Family income is significantly positively related to friendship quality. Length of stay in pesantren has a significant negative effect on academic motivation. The results of the effect test show that the length of stay in pesantren, teacher-student interaction, and friendship quality have a significant positive effect on the academic motivation of modern pesantren students after PJJ.

Abstract

The rapid pace of modern life poses a significant challenge for adolescents as they navigate the complexities of moral development and fulfill their developmental obligations. Several factors, including parental influences and adolescent characteristics, play a crucial role in shaping their moral development. This study examined the impact of family dynamics, adolescent characteristics, emotion-related parenting styles, self-control, and empathy on adolescent moral competence. Conducted in the Bandung City area, the study employed an explanatory research design and utilized a quantitative survey method with a sample of 110 pairs of high school students aged 15-18 and their parents. Results revealed that girls exhibited higher levels of empathy than boys and that self-control tended to decrease with grade level. Additionally, parents with a college education were more likely to employ emotion-coaching strategies. While there was no significant correlation between emotion-related parenting styles and adolescent moral competence, self-control and empathy demonstrated a positive and influential relationship with moral development in adolescents.

Abstract

Resilience plays a crucial role in adolescent development, particularly during crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic, which disrupted education, family dynamics, and social interactions. This study aimed to investigate the impact of social support from friends and teachers, as well as mother-child communication, on adolescent resilience during the pandemic. An explanatory design with a quantitative approach was employed, with data collected online from 202 adolescents across Java Island through questionnaires distributed via social media platforms. The study sample consisted of junior and senior high school students participating in distance learning during the pandemic. The findings indicated that 67.3% of adolescents showed moderate resilience, while 6.9% displayed high resilience. Correlation analysis revealed significant relationships between social support from friends (r = 0.146), social support from teachers (r = 0.270), and mother-child communication (r = 0.206) with adolescent resilience. Regression analysis showed that social support from teachers had the most significant positive effect on resilience, explaining 8% of the variance in adolescent resilience. These findings suggest that enhancing teacher support and improving family communication are key strategies to foster adolescent resilience during crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
