Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of theatrical methods in teaching Arabic to improve students' speaking skills at State Islamic Junior High School 2, Labuhan Batu Selatan, North Sumatra. This study employed a qualitative research method with descriptive analytical approach, the research collected data through interviews with teachers and students, direct observations, and document analysis. The results showed that the implementation of theatrical methods significantly improved students' fluency, confidence, and understanding of the material. This method also created a more interactive and lively learning environment. The success of the theatrical method heavily relies on the active role of the teacher in guiding and motivating students. This study makes an important contribution to the development of Arabic teaching methods by demonstrating that theatrical methods can effectively and contextually enhance students' speaking skills, with potential integration into Arabic language curricula in junior high schools.

Abstract

The ability to speak Arabic among students of IAIN Langsa's Arabic Language Education Department (PBA) is not only important in an academic context, but also has potential as a means of social integration. Unfortunately, the use of Arabic outside the classroom is still limited and does not support the creation of a climate of togetherness across generations. This service program aims to strengthen the use of Arabic through a community-based participatory-collaborative approach, with muhādatsah training activities, lughawiyah discussion forums, Arabic outbound, and Arabic Language Day. The methods used include needs observation, intensive training, social language practice, and formative and summative evaluation. The results of the activity showed an increase in the courage to speak Arabic (muhādatsah), the frequency of social interaction between students, and the formation of new collaborative spaces. This activity not only contributes to strengthening linguistic competence, but also in forming an inclusive and sustainable academic social network.

Abstract

The digital age has brought significant changes in the development of learning media, especially for early childhood. Canva, with its ease of design and interactive features, offers great potential in creating innovative learning media. This article aims to explore the utilization of Canva in the development of Arabic interactive learning media for early childhood. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observations, and questionnaires. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Canva in creating learning materials that are interesting, relevant, and easily understood by early childhood. The results show that Canva is able to increase student engagement, motivate them to learn Arabic, and make it easier for teachers to design learning materials. This article also highlights the gaps in previous research, namely the lack of exploration of the use of Canva in the context of Arabic language learning and the need for media development that suits the characteristics of early childhood.

Abstract

Legal literacy is a fundamental aspect in forming a society that is aware of the law and able to exercise rights and obligations in a balanced manner. Unfortunately, the level of legal literacy in the Mandailing Natal region is still relatively low, as seen from the lack of public understanding of actual legal issues, especially legal practices related to social and religious life during the month of Ramadan. This community service activity aims to improve community legal literacy through the Bincang Hukum program organized by the Nayottama Reswara Legal Aid Foundation. The activity was held on March 17, 2025 at Dilan Coffee, Panyabungan, Mandailing Natal, involving 23 participants from lecturers, legal practitioners, students, and the general public. Evaluation through pre-test and post-test showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the legal material presented. In-depth interviews and observations showed that the interactive dialog method and contextual presentation of materials were able to encourage active community participation. These findings suggest that an educative approach based on public discussion can be an effective model in increasing community legal awareness. This program also contributes to strengthening the role of universities and legal aid institutions in legal literacy-based community empowerment.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore students' potential through a constructivism approach to Arabic language learning. This study employed a descriptive qualitative, this research analyzes the impact of the constructivism approach on students' engagement, understanding, and critical thinking in the context of Arabic language learning. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document studies in two Arabic language classes at SD-IT Al-Furqan and SD-IT Adnani. The results indicated that the constructivism approach can enhance students' engagement, communication skills, and critical thinking abilities. Students involved in constructivism-based activities show significant improvements in language understanding, the application of language concepts in real-world contexts, as well as reflective and collaborative skills. These findings showed that constructivist learning can play a crucial role in optimizing students' potential in Arabic language learning. The study recommends greater support for teachers in implementing this approach and further exploring its long-term impact on Arabic language learning.

Abstract

This study explored the transformative potential of digital platforms in Arabic language learning, particularly focusing on how these technologies break traditional barriers to Arabic language acquisition. This research employed qualitative research with a type of literature study. The primary sources of data for this study's data on the integration of digital platforms in Arabic language learning were a number of books, journals, websites, and other literary works. Meanwhile, data analysis techniques used the Miles and Huberman model, namely data collection, data reduction, data display, and data verification. The findings showed that the educational paradigm in Arabic language learning has undergone significant shifts towards technology integration. This study also concludes that digital platforms have great potential to break down traditional barriers in Arabic language learning, especially regarding the limitations of conventional classrooms and materials, thereby paving the way for a new era of learning that is more inclusive and accessible.

Abstract

This study investigates the potential relationship between Arabic language proficiency and politeness level. Arabic has an important role in transforming the values of ethics and morality because learning Arabic does not only cover aspects of grammar and vocabulary, but also involves understanding culture and social norms. The aim of this research is to examine the correlation between proficiency in language mastery and politeness levels. This study employs a quantitative approach through a correlational method. The collection of data involves the utilization of learning evaluation documents and politeness scales. Data analysis is conducted through simple linear regression, facilitated by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for calculation purposes.  Hypothesis testing using simple linear regression test is used to measure the influence of one independent variable on the dependent variable. The results showed that there was no relationship between ability and politeness as seen from the significance value of 0.319> 0.05. This can also be proven by the magnitude of the coefficient of determination or the amount of influence given by variable X to variable Y. It is hoped that this research can be a reference for similar research in the future.

Abstract

This study explores how gadgets can enhance Arabic learning through a fun-based learning approach at TK Az-Zalfa Mandailing Natal. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with teachers and the school principal, and documentation of classroom activities, involving three teachers, one principal, and nine children aged 5–6 years. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, thematic categorization, and triangulation. The findings showed that the utilization of gadgets has been effectively integrated into learning sessions using applications such as Marbel Bahasa Arab, Memrise, and YouTube Kids, which supported vocabulary acquisition, listening practice, and verbal participation while fostering contextualized and enjoyable learning experiences. Other results also showed high attention focus (M = 4.2), fairly high verbal participation (M = 3.8), very high play enthusiasm (M= 4.6), and moderate independence in gadget use (M = 3.5). This study contributes to the literature on foreign language learning in early childhood by emphasizing the potential of fun-based digital strategies in Islamic education, highlighting the critical role of teachers as facilitators in balancing technology use with developmental needs, and providing practical implications for educators and curriculum developers in designing innovative, adaptive, and inclusive Arabic learning models.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the meaning of hijab from traditional and modern perspectives, as well as analyze the controversy related to its use by transgender individuals in the context of religion and gender identity. This research employed a qualitative approach based on literature review and case study, as well as Durkheim's sacredness theory and queer theory as analytical frameworks. The results showed that the hijab undergoes a transformation of meaning from a mere religious obligation to a more inclusive social symbol, triggering debates between conservative and more inclusive groups in Muslim society. The case of Isa Zega, a transgender woman who wore the hijab during Umrah, became a critical point in the discussion about the limits of the sacredness of the hijab and individual rights in spiritual expression. While some consider the use of hijab by transgender people as a violation of religious norms, others see it as a form of spirituality that is not limited to gender categories. This debate reflects the tension between established religious understandings and the dynamics of gender identity in modern society. Therefore, a more open dialogue is needed between scholars, academics, and the wider community to find a balance between Islamic teachings and inclusivity values, so that the hijab remains a meaningful and relevant symbol in various social contexts.
