Abstract

Abstract

The matter of inequality in context of health status is reflected in the high differences in maternal mortality rates in several countries. Often health information is ignored because of differences in understanding the needs of women and their families. This becomes a communication barrier between health care providers and families in selecting and making emergency decisions that may arise during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium. This study aims to describe the habits and traditions of women during pregnancy and after childbirth in maternal health care. This research uses descriptive analysis method with a case study approach. The study sample consisted of four postpartum mothers with criteria of normal conditions without complications since the third trimester of pregnancy, and the similarity of Banjar ethnic characteristics. The illustration of the results shows that four research subjects carried out the habits of the prevailing tradition, including self-perception; services received from attendants, places and types of care; taboo on food and medicine; suggestion about food and medicine; and rituals in the form of ceremonies and salvation prayers together with maternal health care from midwives, nurses at midwife clinics and Puskesmas. Our research findings confirm that Banjar people are accustomed to using cultural traditions that are integrated into their families and communities and health care services in available and affordable facilities in the area.

Abstract

Dengue fever remains a major public health threat in Indonesia, exacerbated by rising insecticide resistance in Aedes aegypti. Strategies relying on chemical insecticides, while initially effective, have led to widespread resistance in mosquito populations. This resistance is particularly pronounced in areas such as Java, where the extensive use of insecticides, including organophosphates and pyrethroids, has been documented. To address this challenge, one promising alternative is the utilization of biolarvicides derived from local Indonesian plant materials. Biolarvicides are environmentally friendly, safe, and have the potential to mitigate the adverse impacts associated with chemical insecticides. Numerous studies have explored the larvicidal properties of indigenous plants native to Indonesia, demonstrating their efficacy against A. aegypti. The aim of this study was to examine insecticide resistance in Aedes mosquitoes across Indonesia, highlighting geographical variations and underexplored regions, and exploring plant-based biolarvicides as sustainable alternatives.  Biolarvicides derived from native Indonesian plants could be eco-friendly alternative for dengue vector management. Their integration into existing control strategies could significantly enhance efforts to control dengue while reducing the environmental and health risks posed by chemical insecticides.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: The growing global demand for Nickel has sparked major concerns regarding environmental and health impacts, which require a comprehensive understanding. However, there have been gaps in the mapping of study focus and research trends so far, especially in the last ten years. Method: This study aims to address these gaps through a systematic literature review and thematic analysis of 303 articles obtained from Scopus, PubMed, and Springer Open using PoP, Vos Viewer, and Watase Uake. The analysis was conducted by considering trends based on the year of publication, geographical distribution (especially in developing countries such as Indonesia, China, and others), research methodology, and identification of key themes such as heavy metal contamination, land use change, and public health impacts related to mining activities. Results: The study show significant progress in understanding the impacts of nickel mining, but also identify areas that are still underexplored, especially in terms of theoretical development, methodological innovation, and contextual frameworks. The study also found that only 15% of the studies adopted an interdisciplinary approach, indicating the need for more intensive collaboration. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening policy frameworks, especially in areas with intensive mining activities, such as Indonesia. Conclusion: This research proposes a future research agenda to address the emerging challenges and provides important insights for the development of more effective mitigation strategies. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the international policy framework, supporting the design of stronger and region-specific interventions to reduce the environmental and health impacts of nickel mining.
