Abstract

Recently, the use of loudspeakers in mosque activities without rules has been widely complained about by the public, both non-Muslims and Muslims. Improper arrangement of loudspeakers and lack of understanding related to psychoacoustic aspects are the causes of these problems. Therefore, basic psychoacoustic training and mosque sound system miking techniques were held to improve the understanding of mosque administrators in Malang City. The training activities were carried out using lecture and direct discussion methods. The activity, which was attended by 107 participants, received a positive response, where 85% of participants stated that the material presented was clear and easy to understand. Furthermore, almost 70% of participants will also implement sound system miking techniques in the mosques they lead so that the problem of loudspeakers can be resolved. This activity has a positive impact not only on the efficiency of mosque sound system management, but also on the quality of the congregation's worship experience which will indirectly impact the congregation's participation in prospering the mosque.

Abstract

Conceptual understanding is a basic skill that students need to have in learning. This has encouraged many researchers to implement strategies in learning to improve students' understanding of kinematics material. This article conducts a comprehensive review of 22 Scopus indexed journals to answer research questions related to What strategies are used in learning kinematics material and what difficulties do students experience during learning? The method is carried out using the PRISMA stages which consist of four journal mapping processes, namely identification, screening, eligibility, and included in this review. The review results indicate that from 2016 to 2024, various strategies and comparative studies have been implemented in kinematics learning. Most of these strategies effectively enhance students' conceptual understanding. However, there are still some difficulties for students in understanding the concept of kinematics which are still underlined, especially in understanding the interpretation of x-t, v-t, and a-t graphs.

Abstract

One essential ability in physics is problem-solving ability. Problem-solving and physics are inseparable. This research aims to reveal how students solve physics problems. This research is quantitative descriptive research, namely describing students' problem-solving abilities in Static Fluid material. This research was conducted on 28 Physics education students at one of the State Universities in East Java. Data was collected through tests and in-depth interviews. The research instrument was two test items on statistical fluid problem-solving. The results show that the students' physics problem-solving abilities are still in the beginner category. Learners need to work on solving problems correctly with incomplete problem-solving aspects. The interviews showed that students' difficulties in the problem-solving process were mainly in determining the physics approach to use and bringing the physics approach to specific conditions. This analysis can help further studies of improving novice physics problem-solving abilities

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Phenomenon-Based Experiential Learning integrated with Formative Assessment on improving students’ scientific literacy in the topic of static fluids. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a control group Pre-test–Post-test design, involving 71 eleventh-grade students from one of the Islamic Senior High Schools (MAN) in Padangsidimpuan, Indonesia. The experimental class received instruction using the Phenomenon-Based Experiential Learning model accompanied by Formative Assessment, while the control class was taught through conventional learning. Data were collected using eight essay questions covering the topics of hydrostatic pressure, Pascal’s law, and Archimedes’ principle. The findings revealed a significant difference between the two classes, with an N-gain score of 0.66 (medium category) in the experimental class and 0.29 (low category) in the control class. The analysis of each scientific literacy indicator also showed that the Explain Phenomena Scientifically (EPS) and Interpret Data and Evidence Scientifically (IDES) indicators achieved high improvement categories, while the Evaluate and Design Scientific Enquiry (EDSE) indicator increased within the medium category. These results indicate that Phenomenon-Based Experiential Learning integrated with Formative Assessment is effective in enhancing students’ scientific literacy skills.

Abstract

Abstract: Critical thinking skills as an important skill in the 21st century is a major goal of science education. Therefore the researchers develop various learning strategies to enhance and develop students' critical thinking skills. They develop learning materials that integrated with ability to think critically. However, the strategy makes students less understand to the concept of the material. Learning strategy as bounded inquiry lab model can improve both critical thinking skill and students' comprehension of the material. This study aims to determine effectiveness of bounded inquiry lab to critical thinking skills in high school students. This study focuses on hydrostatic pressure, Pascal's law, and Archimedes’ law. Mixed methods of embedded model design were used during the study. A total of 30 students in major natural science program undergo pre test, followed by learning using bounded inquiry lab, doing post test and then interview. The results showed that students' critical thinking skills on hydrostatic pressure, Pascal's law, and Archimedes’ law increased from an average of 20.00 in pretest to 80.67 in post test. In addition, students said that they can improve their understand concepts of matter, determine the variables, how to create and test hypotheses through scientific work, and make good conclusion through classroom learning. So, bounded inquiry lab should be used as an alternative learning to enhance critical thinking skills in static fluids. Abstrak: Keterampilan berpikir kritis sebagai keterampilan penting di abad 21 merupakan tujuan utama pendidikan sains. Abstract

This study aims to describe the causes of students' failures in solving diode circuit problems. Research data were obtained through tests, dialogs, and interviews with 12 students of the physics education study program at Universitas PGRI Madiun. The research began by providing diode circuit test questions. Referring to the answers to the diode circuit test questions, an investigation was conducted through a basic circuit mastery test, followed by dialogs and interviews. The data from the test results, dialogs, and interviews in this study led to the conclusion that the common causes of students' failures in solving diode circuit problems are the inability to apply Ohm's law and Kirchhoff's law correctly, as well as the inconsistency and lack of systematic application of basic circuit concepts. A specific finding regarding the causes of failure in solving diode circuit problems is the conflict between physical and mathematical analyses. Based on the common causes of students' failures in solving diode circuit problems, a series of conceptual scaffolding needs to be designed. In conceptual scaffolding, complex circuits are transformed into several basic circuits to facilitate scaffolding for each basic concept. Procedural scaffolding needs to be designed to address failures resulting from the conflict between physical and mathematical analyses. One necessary step in procedural scaffolding is confirming answers using Kirchhoff's law.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of Practice Rehearsal Pairs (PRPs) with Dynamic Video Media (DVM) on improving students' skills to interpret kinematics graphs in Physics subjects among junior high school students in Malang. This research is descriptive with a quantitative approach. Data collection was conducted through tests, observations with open questionnaires to three classes totaling 77 eighth-grade students in Malang City. Semi-structured interview participant selection was carried out to obtain detailed and in-depth answers from the students' perspectives. The instrument used to explore kinematics graph interpretation abilities consisted of 10 kinematics graph questions taken from The Test of Understanding Graphs in Kinematics (TUG-K). The research results show that eighth-grade junior high school students in Malang have a low ability to interpret kinematics graphs, with an average initial exploration ability score of 54.6. The difficulties experienced by students include reading graphs through slope/gradient, area under the graph, and direct graph reading. The PRPs learning model with DVM can improve the ability to interpret kinematics graphs of junior high school students. In the three experimental classes, there was an increase in initial exploration ability scores and final ability test scores. The non-parametric test results using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test show that all three classes have a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, thus it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the initial and final abilities of students in the experimental classes before and after the implementation of PRPs and the use of DVM. This indicates that the PRPs learning model with DVM can improve the ability to interpret kinematics graphs of junior high school students.
