Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of the Busuu application on students' listening skills. This research uses a pre-experimental quantitative approach with a pre-test and post-test design in one group. This research specifically used eighth grade students at MTs Anwarul Maliki and was conducted in three stages: pretest, treatment, and posttest. Research findings show a significant improvement in students' listening skills in class VIII B before and after treatment with the Busuu application. This application has proven to be more effective than traditional methods, improving the practice and effectiveness of listening learning. The results of data analysis show an increase in students' average pre-test score from 34.44 to 64.44 from the average post-test score with the use of the Busuu application, making the process of learning listening skills easier and more practical. The results of this research can provide evidence to readers regarding the use of busuu which can affect junior high students' English listening abilities. This research implies that the Busuu application is more effective than traditional methods in improving listening skills. This provides empirical support for the use of technology in language learning, showing that technology-based methods can provide better results.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, mastering English is crucial for international communication. However, the success of English education in Indonesia is often hindered by limited language skills, particularly in vocabulary, which significantly affects students' comprehension. This challenge underscores the importance of fostering students' motivation to learn, as motivation serves as a key driver for academic success. This study employed a qualitative case study approach to investigate the implementation of the "Run to the Board" game as a method to teach English language skills at a junior high school. Participants were Kampus Mengajar batch 4 student teachers. Data collected through observations, interviews, and documentation were analyzed qualitatively. The findings of this study enrich the theoretical understanding of the "Run to the Board" (RTTB) method and offer practical insights for English language educators. This research provides alternative implementations of RTTB to suit diverse classroom contexts and explores the reflections of pre-service English teachers in applying this game. These reflections highlight the challenges and strategies involved in effectively utilizing RTTB, offering a valuable perspective for improving student engagement and vocabulary acquisition through innovative teaching methods. The results are expected to inspire teachers to be more creative in boosting students' self-confidence and addressing vocabulary challenges that impede their English proficiency.

Abstract

Blended learning is a learning strategy that combines face-to-face learning (both traditional in-class and virtually with video conferences) with online learning (e-learning). Blended learning is used as the best solution for dealing with restrictions on large-scale activities in Indonesia due to the spread of the coronavirus. SMAN 1 Porong applies blended learning to ensure the teaching and learning process continues, especially in learning English. On the other hand, teachers in this school face challenges in implementing blended learning. Therefore, the purposes of this study are to reveal in detail the implementation of blended learning and the challenges faced by teachers using case study research. To collect data, the researchers used observation and unstructured interview techniques. The results of this study indicate that SMAN 1 Porong has successfully implemented blended learning, especially for English lessons. However, the English teachers at the school are not free from challenges, such as the difficulty of finding the right strategy for face-to-face and online classes. This study implies that, however, the success of blended learning must be accompanied by teachers' creativity in teaching both face-to-face and online and the support of school facilities.

Abstract

Teaching English to students with special needs is certainly not an easy way. So, teachers need to use teaching methods that best suit their students’ conditions. Therefore, this research aims to explore how teachers design English teaching methods and their implementation. Apart from that, this research also describes the challenges faced by English teachers in special schools (SLB). This research was conducted at SLB-AC Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo Regency. The participants in this research were English teachers at junior high schools. This qualitative research uses interview and observation data collection techniques. The results of this research show that teachers use various methods adapted to students’ ability levels, including severe, mild, and special classes, according to their needs. The methods applied reflect awareness of the importance of individualization to support special needs students in learning English. Challenges faced by teachers, such as grouping students based on ability, handling students’ moods, and preparing appropriate learning materials, were also issues found in this research. The results of this research imply that teachers must understand that each student has special needs.

Abstract

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Early childhood is a critical stage for language development and social interaction. While Play-Based Learning (PBL) is widely recognized for fostering creativity and emotional growth, its specific potential in supporting second language vocabulary acquisition remains underexplored. At RA Anak Emas, where English instruction has long been integrated into classroom activities, PBL has been systematically implemented. This study aimed to explore how PBL supports kindergarteners’ vocabulary learning within this context. Adopting a qualitative descriptive approach, the study observed 18 children aged 4–6 years over eight weeks through structured non-participant observation. Guided by Edwards’ typology Open-ended, Modeled Play, and Purposefully-Framed Play the analysis focused on indicators of vocabulary use and social engagement, including turn-taking, cooperation, and spontaneous language production. Findings revealed that the three types of play fostered active participation, contextual vocabulary use, and peer collaboration. Notably, recurring behaviors reflecting empathy and cognitive initiative emerged beyond Edwards’ framework. To capture this dimension, the researchers propose an additional category: Interpersonal Constructive Play, which highlights emotionally rich, idea-driven interactions often overlooked in traditional play taxonomies. This conceptual contribution extends the theoretical landscape of PBL by emphasizing the importance of balancing structured activities with opportunities for spontaneous, empathetic, and cognitively active engagement. The study offers practical implications for early childhood educators and curriculum designers seeking to create holistic and inclusive English learning experiences for young learners
