Abstract

The research consisted of two experiments, they were shoot multiplications experiment and root induction with anthocyanins content experiment.  Randomized block design with two factors was used in the two experiments.  In the first experiment BAP and IAA were used which were 0, 1, 2, 3 ppm and  0, 0.5 and 1 ppm, respectively. In the second experiment IAA and sucrose were used which were 0, 0.5, 1 ppm and 30, 40, 50 and 60 g/l.  Addition of BAP 3.54 and 2.98 ppm without IAA to in vitro MS medium in the first experiment, significantly increased the number of shoots (33.21) and number of leaves (52.53)  at 5 weeks after planting.  MS medium with BAP 0.32 ppm without IAA produced maximum shoot heights (4.11 cm), while addition BAP up to 3 ppm significantly reduced number of roots and induced callus diametres (1.48 cm).  Purple pink leaf colour was produced without BAP application. In the second experiment, addition of IAA 1 ppm with sucrose 52.18 g/l and IAA 1 ppm with sucose 48.36 g/l produced maximum of shoot number (15.01 shoots) and leaf number (29.16 leaves) at 8 weeks after planting, but the size of shoot and leaf were smaller.  Maximum shoot height (10.03cm), number of root (35.4) and length of root (22.3 cm) were produced at the IAA 0.5 ppm and sucrose 30 g/l. The highest anthocyanins content (0.071 %) and number of plantlet (2.6) were produced by addition of sucrose 30 g/l. Anthocyanin and number of plantlet decreased quadratically with sucrose addition.   Key words : Anthocyanin, In Vitro, Gynura pseudochina (L.) DC

Abstract

Field experiment to study biomass and bioactive compound productions of   Talinum triangulare from different propagules and chicken manure dosages was conducted at Leuwikopo, Dramaga, Bogor, West Java, Indonesia from September to November 2005.  The research used split plot design with 3 replications.  The main plot was propagules (seed and stem cutting) and sub plot was chicken manure dosages (0, 5, 10, and 15 t ha-1). Bioactive compound was determined qualitatively. The results showed that stem cutting gave the highest leaf dry weight (7.78 g plant-1) and tuber dry weight (4.99 g plant-1). The bioactive compounds (alkaloid, steroid, saponin, tannin, and flavonoid) were not influenced by propagules. The dosage of 15 t ha-1 chicken manure gave the highest leaf dry weight (10.73 g plant-1) and tuber dry weight (6.36 g plant-1). The bioactive compound decreased with the increasing chicken manure dosages. Interaction of stem cutting and 15 t ha-1 of chicken manure gave the highest leaf dry weight (12.43 g plant-1).   Bioactive compound and tuber dry weight were not influenced by the interaction of  propagules and chicken manure dosages.   Key words:  Bioactive compound, Talinum triangulare, propagules, chicken manure

Abstract

The effects of NPK fertilization and plant spacing on leaf anthocyanin production of Talinum triangulare (Jacq.) Willd. were studied. A factorial experiment was used to study the combination of two factors i.e. NPK fertilization (no fertilization, NPK, NP, NK, and PK) and plant spacing (100 cm x 45 cm, 100 cm x 60 cm, 100 cm x 75 cm). These combinations were arranged in randomized block design, with three replications. The result showed that there was no effect of plant spacing and interaction between two factors. Application of NP (minus K) fertilizer gave the lowest value for almost all parameter except shoot/root ratio. This result suggested that fertilization played significant role in increasing anthocyanin production and the limiting factor was potassium.   Key words: Talinum triangulare, NPK  fertilization, anthocyanin production

This research revealed that high quality waterleaf can be indicated by some criterias, i.e., higher content of primary metabolites (sugar and protein), secondary metabolites (phenolic, flavonoid, and chlorophyll), and antioxidant capacity (low IC50 value). Therefore, application of inorganic fertilizer in wet season is recommended to produce high yields and high quality water leaf. Keywords: sugar, protein, phenolic, flavonoid, DPPH
