Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore Muslim students’ level of understanding regarding the nature of science (NoS) and compare their understanding between genders in private Islamic schools in Thailand. Descriptive statistics and t-test independent was used to analyze the data. The results revealed that a majority of the participants held a transitional perspective on NoS. Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences in NoS comprehension between genders at the .05 level. To enhance students' understanding of NoS in all domains, it is recommended that learning activities in private Islamic schools promote a reflective attitude towards NoS.

Abstract

The problem with test instruments made by teachers tends to test more aspects of memory without honing the ability to think at a high level of students is what prompted this research. The purpose of this study was to develop a high level thinking test instrument designed for grade IX students on the theme of environmentally friendly energy. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) consisting of potential problems, data collection, product design, design validation, design revision and product trials. This research resulted in the form of a high level thinking test instrument. The test instrument has been tested for feasibility based on expert validation obtaining a validity level of 98.36% (very valid) with details of material expert validation of 97.77% and science teacher experts of 98.96%. Based on the test of test instruments on 105 students measured by Anates software version 4.0.5, the results obtained 20 valid questions with moderate difficulty, reliability of 0.85 (high reliability) and good differentiating power as many as 5 questions and sufficient differentiating power as many as 15 questions. Therefore, it can be concluded that the test instrument with an overall product efficiency value obtained based on student responses is 89.12% (very efficient).  The results of the development of test instruments can be used for further research that will measure the level of ability with high level thinking in class IX students on the theme of environmentally friendly energy.

Abstract

Kegiatan pembelajaran yang berorientasi pada kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa masih belum terlaksana secara optimal. Kemampuan berpikir kritis dapat di bangun dengan mengembangkan produk e-modul berbasis inquiry science issues. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan efisiensi e-modul berbasis inquiry science issues tema tanahku tercemar untuk melatih kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMP kelas VII. Manfaat penelitian ini yaitu bahan ajar e-modul ini dapat membantu guru dan siswa dalam kegiatan proses belajar serta menambah keterbatasan bahan ajar yang ada disekolah. Penelitian pengembangan ini dengan model Sugiono yang dibatasi sampai uji coba terbatas. Instrumen penelitian ini menggunakan angket validasi ahli dan respon siswa. Hasil validasi e-modul oleh ahli materi didapatkan persentase sebesar 86,9% (sangat valid), ahli media didapatkan persentase sebesar 91,08% (sangat valid) dan ahli praktisi didapatkan persentase sebesar 85,5% (sangat valid). Hasil tingkat efisiensi e-modul didapatkan persentase sebesar 86,9% (sangat efisien). Dengan demikian, e-modul berbasis inquiry science issues tema tanahku dapat digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran IPA di sekolah.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan karena permasalahan yang ditemukan terkait dengan pembelajaran IPA di SMP. Bermula dari pembelajaran yang masih menggunakan metode ceramah, sehingga kemandirian belajar siswa masih belum optimal. Siswa cenderung mempelajari materi hanya mengandalkan guru saja. E-modul berorientasi integrated STEM education dirancang agar siswa dapat berperan aktif dan mampu melakukan pembelajaran secara mandiri. tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk merinci tingkat kevalidan dan efisiensi e-modul berorientasi integrated STEM education tema pencemaran lingkungan. metode penelitian yang digunakan yakni Research Development (RD) model 4-D (Thiagarajan,1974) meliputi define, design, develop, dan disseminate. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan tingkat kevalidan e-modul sebesar  89% yang termasuk kriteria “sangat valid”. Sedangkan untuk tingkat efisiensi e-modul sebesar 90% yang termasuk kriteria “sangat efisien”. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa e-modul berorientasi integrated STEM education  pada tema pencemaran lingkungan sangat efisien digunakan dalam pembelajaran untuk melatih kemandirian belajar siswa.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this study was to determine the influence of guided inquiry learning model toward the improvement of students’s scientific literacy in integrated science learning on environmental conservation concept based on local wisdom of Baduy’s society. This study used Research and Development method through pretest and posttest test before and after the guided inquiry learning was done. The objects of this study were 31 students who were following the integrated science lecture in 5th semester which is prospective science teacher. The results showed that there was an improvement in students' scientific literacy after guided inquiry learning (was applied) as shown with a gain value of 0.16 (N-Gain = 0.16) which was included in the medium category. Based on this result, it can be concluded that there is the influence of guided inquiry learning model toward the improvement of students’s scientific literacy in integrated science learning on environmental conservation concept based on local wisdom of Baduy’s society. Keywords: Scientific Literacy, Guided Inquiry, Local Wisdom, Baduy’s Society

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a simple and low-cost chemical experiment kits to facilitate students in the school which has limited chemistry laboratory facilities. The topic of the experiment was the concepts of gas laws. The research was conducted in a private school in a rural area of Banten, Indonesia using educational research and development method. 10th-grade high school students (n=27) participated in this study. The research result indicated that the experiment kits facilitate the teacher to explain the chemical concepts of gas laws. Learning using the gas laws experiment kits also had positive responses from students. The results showed that the kits were eligible to be applied in the high school chemistry learning.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of guided inquiry learning for students’ scientific literacy skills. The research was conducted at SMAN 24 Kabupaten Tangerang along January-June 2013. The method used was quasi-experimental, research subjects in this study were 77 students, divided into 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group. Research design in this study was the nonequivalent control group design. The instrument used was the science literacy test and observation sheet used. The research shows that students' science literacy for experimental group (mean = 54.49 and standard deviation = 18.67) was lower than the control group (mean = 57.63 and standard deviation of 14.37). After Mann-Whitney test (at the 95% significance level) α values obtained for 0.293 > 0.05. It can be concluded there is no significant difference between the average science literacy experimental group and control group students.  Keywords: Guided Inquiry, Science Literacy Skills, acid-bases concepts. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing terhadap literasi sains siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMAN 24 Kabupaten Tangerang pada bulan Januari-Juni 2013. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen, subyek dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari 77 siswa, dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok: yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Desain penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah nonequivalent control group design. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes literasi sains dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan literasi sains siswa untuk kelompok eksperimen (rata-rata = 54,49 dan simpangan baku = 18,67) lebih rendah daripada kelompok kontrol (rata-rata = 57,63 dan simpangan baku sebesar 14,37). Setelah dilakukan uji Mann-Whitney (pada taraf signifikansi 95%) diperoleh nilai α sebesar  0,293 > 0,05. Maka dapat disimpulkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara rata-rata literasi sains siswa kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Kata kunci: Inkuiri Terbimbing, Literasi Sains, Konsep Asam Basa

Abstract

Environmental conservation is now rapidly distributed into educational sector. Two prongs of development need to describe in science education. This study aimed to study context of science in which Thai and Indonesian novice science teacher students expresses to Baduy’s society. Seventy one of Indonesian and 95 of Thai novice science teacher students were surveyed in January-February 2018. Context of science of novice science teacher students were studied.  Thai novice science teacher students had mean score higher than Indonesian novice science teacher students, but statistical testing revealed that there was no significantly differences at 0.05. The context of science Thai novice science teacher students had better than the context of science of Indonesian novice science teacher students but there is no significantly differences.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengenalkan bioinfomatics tools dalam pembelajaran genetika bagi dosen pendidikan biologi di salah satu Universitas di Ternate, Indonesia. Bioinformatics tools yang dikenalkan adalah Sequence Manipulation Suite (SMS) dan BLAST dari NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information). Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini adalah studi kasus dengan teknik observasi. Partisipan dalam kegiatan ini adalah Dosen Pendidikan Biologi di salah satu Universitas di Ternate, Indonesia. Hasil dari kegiatan ini diperoleh bahwa Bioinformatics tools diantaranya adalah Sequence Manipulation Suite (SMS) dan BLAST dari NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information). Dapat disumpulkan bahwa pemanfaatan bioinfomatics tools seperti Sequence Manipulation Suite (SMS) dan BLAST dari NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) dapat digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran genetika di kelas dalam pembelajaran genetika Abad 21 untuk mahasiswa pendidikan biologi. Direkomendasikan pemanfaatan bioinfomatics tools dalam proses pembelajaran genetika di kelas dalam pembelajaran genetika Abad 21 untuk mahasiswa pendidikan biologi.
