Abstract

The persistent challenges facing elementary education in Indonesia—ranging from inadequacies in curriculum design and instructional delivery to inefficiencies in resource management—necessitate transformative school leadership. This study critically investigates the strategic role of principals in improving educational quality through the integrated implementation of seven core leadership functions: as educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, innovator, and motivator. Employing a qualitative case study design in Kasihan District, Bantul Regency, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that effective principals drive curricular relevance and innovation, foster collaborative pedagogical planning, and promote the integration of educational technologies. Moreover, they facilitate continuous professional development, ensure transparent and efficient resource utilization, and nurture strong community engagement. The study concludes that school principals act as pivotal agents in cultivating adaptive, inclusive, and innovation-oriented learning environments. It recommends capacity-building programs for school leaders and teachers, enhanced governance mechanisms, and strengthened stakeholder partnerships. These insights contribute to both the practical discourse on educational leadership development and the broader theoretical understanding of strategic school governance within decentralized educational systems.

Abstract

Stunting remains a chronic nutritional problem that hinders human development in Indonesia due to its multidimensional impacts on cognitive aspects, economic productivity, and the social well-being of communities. To address this challenge, the Thematic Community Service program (KKN-T) of Alma Ata University in Debong Kulon Village was developed through a synergistic three-pillar model that integrates family nutrition education, literacy and utilization of local food, as well as household economic empowerment based on nutrition gardens as a holistic strategy to combat stunting. This program employs a community-based participatory approach through four systematic stages, problem identification, participatory planning, intervention implementation, and reflective evaluation, to ensure the program’s relevance and sustainability. Empirical results show a 23.5% increase in family nutrition knowledge, an 87% rise in participation in community health posts (posyandu), and 82% of households successfully managing nutrition gardens independently. Scientifically, these findings affirm the effectiveness of participatory communication, social learning, and local food self-sufficiency in fostering sustainable nutritional behavior change. The main conclusion indicates that the triple-pillar empowerment model has proven effective in strengthening social resilience and ensuring the sustainability of interventions, while also offering an adaptive replication model for urban and semi-urban areas within the framework of equitable and sustainable community development.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of the Tilawati method and the peer tutoring strategy in Qur’anic recitation (tahsin) learning within Islamic elementary education, aiming to describe their implementation, examine their synergy in forming Qur’anic character, and identify the values internalized throughout the learning process. Methodologically, the study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design at SD Islam Al Azhar 31 Yogyakarta. Data were collected through participatory observation of tahsin sessions, in-depth interviews with teachers, peer tutors, and tutees, as well as document analysis (lesson plans, assessment rubrics, and reflective journals). Data analysis followed thematic procedures of reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility ensured through triangulation of sources and methods, along with member checking. The findings reveal that the combination of Tilawati’s technical structure—accuracy of makhraj, application of tajwÄ«d, and rhythmic tartÄ«l—and the relational dynamics of peer tutoring based on the “appreciation–diagnosis–demonstration–practice–confirmation” sequence enhances Qur’anic reading competence while reinforcing religiosity, responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and empathy. The transformation from a teacher-centered model to a psychologically safe, collaborative ecosystem was sustained by ritualized practices (talqÄ«n–tasmi‘, tikrār, murāja‘ah), social co-regulation among students, and post-session spiritual reflection. The study concludes that the Tilawati–peer tutoring integration effectively bridges the gap between learning to know and learning to be, recommending strengthened peer tutor capacity, technical standard calibration, authentic cognitive–affective assessment, and parental engagement as home coaches to ensure the sustainability of character habituation. Keywords: Tilawati; peer tutoring; Qur’anic recitation; character formation; Islamic elementary education.
