Abstract

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) requires appropriate evaluation mechanisms to assess the achievement of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) through observable and measurable performance outcomes, ensuring compatibility with Indonesian language pedagogy at the university level. Scientific articles produced by students through project-based learning provide critical evidence of PLO attainment. This study examines students’ achievement of PLOs via scientific articles from the Indonesian Language course, identifies the strongest and weakest competency aspects, and explores implications for project-based Indonesian language learning. An evaluative design employing a mixed-methods approach was used. Quantitative data were collected through rubric-based performance assessments of students’ scientific articles, while qualitative data were obtained through content analysis of the articles, interviews with lecturers, and classroom observations. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were applied to analyze the data. The findings indicate an uneven pattern of PLO achievement. Students demonstrate strong performance in the structural aspects of scientific writing and clarity of academic communication (PLO 2), reflecting their ability to adhere to formal academic conventions. However, competencies involving higher-order thinking, particularly critical argumentation and the integration of theory with empirical data (PLO 3), show lower achievement levels. Qualitative data reveal that many student articles emphasize descriptive reporting of results rather than theory-based analysis. These results suggest that Project-Based Learning (PjBL) effectively supports technical writing skills but does not fully develop students’ critical academic reasoning and theoretical synthesis. Therefore, instructional practices should emphasize guided reflection, analytical discussion, and theory–data integration to enhance higher-order academic literacy within the OBE framework. Kata kunci: outcome-based education, program learning outcomes, performance-based assessment, project-based indonesian language learning, scientific articles.

Abstract

Changes in story structures and representations of cultural values can be seen with digital adaptations of folklore into animated YouTube films. This research seeks to understand the cultural values and processes of screen adaptations of the animated story Asal Usul Banyuwangi (The Origin of Banyuwangi) using the concept of screen adaptation by Eneste. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data was collected from 7 YouTube channels that adapt the story. Using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, the authors analyzed the plot, characterization, conflict, dialogue, and cultural elements. The authors validated the findings by consulting with a cultural expert from Banyuwangi. The authors conclude that Reduction is the primary strategy for simplifying the episodic structure of Lontar Sri Tanjung, while Addition and Varied Modification occur in a more selective manner. Bug D'Art Studio is the closest channel to the original text structure and presents deviations while still preserving the essence of the story. Despite the changes in structure, the values of culture, loyalty, responsibility, and local identity still exist and are communicated in a manner more understandable for the children. The authors therefore conclude that cultural and narrative negotiations that allow the folklore to thrive in digital children’s literature are processes that can be seen in the screen adaptations of YouTube animations.

Abstract

This study examines linguistic elements in Tengger folktales and their impact on the understanding of speech acts and the social functions of language. The analysis was conducted using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Qualitative findings, based on linguistic analysis, indicate that the content of Tengger folktales holds strong potential as material for understanding speech acts and the social functions of language. These social functions are reflected in the narratives through messages conveyed in interactions among parents and children, among siblings, and between humans and their natural environment. From a pragmatic perspective, the understanding of speech acts can be developed through the design of teaching materials. Social functions of language can be naturally derived from the content and embedded social values of the folktales. Pragmatic aspects, particularly speech acts, need to be systematically developed within speech segments, which can be facilitated through instructional materials or learning media. This study employed both qualitative and quantitative instruments, with data categorisation based on contextual criteria. The results of the t-test indicate that appreciative listening to Tengger folktales has a significant effect on students’ understanding of speech acts and the social functions of language. These findings suggest that folklore-based appreciative listening is an effective approach for developing the social functions of language
