Abstract

Motivation is viewed as the driving force that is employed to strengthen individuals for improving their performance so as to achieve well-established organizational goals. It is necessary to note that this driving force results from both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Motivation theories, which were derived from Western countries, have been examined its implementation in business, industry, and education organizations there. Nonetheless, Robbins asserts that the motivation theories are not strictly implemented in the other half of the world. For instance, an educational institution such as pesantren (Islamic boarding school), whose organizational culture is much different from a formal one, has flexibly applied those theories of motivation. It can be noticed that the implementation of Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy Theory and McClelland’s Needs Theory extremely depends on intellectual capital and organizational culture aspects of the pesantren.

Abstract

This study examines the harmony of the "Luberan" tradition in implementing the Qur'anic moderation religious values. This study uses a qualitative method of the field research approach. This analysis shows that; 1) The Luberan tradition applies the four parameters of religious moderation compiled by the Director General of Islamic Education, Kemang, Republic of Indonesia. First, the Luberan tradition plays a role in strengthening nationalism, which is illustrated through the poem Sekar Gendhing Asmaradana as a Javanese song with the theme of love for the motherland, cultural preservation, and activities to protect the environment as a form of implementing its contents. QS. Al Qashash: 85 and QS. An-Nisa': 66. Second, tolerance education in Luberan culture can be seen through the interaction between Muslim and non-Muslim residents in organizing events, the habit of exchanging food, and giving each other. Third, a study on the theme of peaceful Islam shows the integration of QS al-mumtahinah verse 8 as an anti-radicalism and anti-violence educational model. 2) Cultural practices in strengthening the value of religious moderation are taught from generation to generation through religious rituals and mysticism in Luberan culture. This research contributes to finding the concept of strengthening the values of culture-based religious moderation. In addition, this research can also be used as a basis for the Ministry of Religion to integrate cultural practices as a vehicle for moderation in religion.

Abstract

The emergence of pesantren without kiai signifies a diversification in the leadership and ownership models of pesantren in Indonesia. This study investigates the transformation of leadership and ownership in two pesantren located in Pekalongan, specifically Pondok Modern Al-Qur'an Buaran and International Muhammadiyah Boarding School (IMBS) Miftahul Ulum Pekajangan, both of which were established by non-kiai founders. Employing a qualitative-phenomenological approach, this research utilizes single-site and cross-site data analysis as modeled by Robert K. Yin. The findings indicate a transition from a traditional family-based leadership model to a more organizational structure. Furthermore, the ownership of pesantren has shifted to foundations or Islamic organizations. Consequently, the selection of pesantren caregivers is now determined by the institution or organization rather than by lineage. Nevertheless, the diverse leadership and ownership models do not reduce the interest of the community sending their children to these pesantren.

Based on the results of this research, supervision generally starts with each student who has the responsibility to supervise each other. There are no special methods available in educational institutions, they still rely on collective and communicative supervision. Where everyone is involved in security and supervision. In this case, it is then communicated through coordination channels within the management structure of the Bustanul Mansuriyah Islamic boarding school. The involvement of all parties in the implementation of supervision at the Bustanul Mansuriyah Islamic boarding school, as well as the implementation of supervision that is guiding and flexible, is the key to the success of implementing effective and efficient supervision at the Bustanul Mansuriyah Islamic boarding school.
