Abstract

Newspaper readers continue to decline and slowly shift to using digital media platforms to obtain information. This happens along with the development of information technology where many online media, social media and so on have emerged. The task and challenge of the print media is to expand its presence into the realm of new media, while continuing to guard the accuracy, credibility and trust that have been the hallmarks of mainstream media. The proliferation of the internet, which is increasingly accessible, has made the media convergence movement grow in particular. Media convergence also occurs in Radar Banten as one of the media that exists in the national arena. This research aims to find out the strategy of Radar Banten Daily to transform itself towards media convergence. The study, which is a qualitative research adopting a constructive paradigm, collected data through interviews and literature review. This research investigates the application of media convergence concept by Radar Banten in facing modern media transformation. Three convergence models, namely newsroom convergence, news gathering convergence, and content convergence, are analyzed as an effort to unify media operations through a holistic approach. The result of the research shows that the 3M strategy (multimedia, multichannel, multiplatform) allows Radar Banten to increase its content coverage, create inter-platform synergy, and strengthen their position in the midst of technological development. The editorial work pattern underwent significant changes, with projection meetings conducted online and deadline adjustments to support online and social media. Overall, this research concludes that Radar Banten is progressively adapting and innovating to stay relevant amidst mass media changes. The continuity of this effort is the key to their success in facing the dynamics of modern media.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe and analyze the Neres tradition as part of a series of Seren Taun ceremonies in Kasepuhan Citorek, an Indigenous community of Banten Kidul located in the Mount Halimun Salak National Park (TNGHS). This tradition serves as a ritual of self-purification before the implementation of Seren Taun as well as believed to be able to resist reinforcements, prevent pagebluk, and maintain the fertility of agricultural products. The research uses qualitative approach with post-positivistic paradigm and ethnographic method of communication. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and triangulation. The results showed that the Neres tradition has more meaning than just the practice of physical hygiene, but is full of symbols that reflect the values of prosperity, chastity and attachment to ancestors. In-depth analysis shows that cleaned household appliances - such as hihid, seeng, Dipper, pangarih, dulang, Basom, and boboko—are not only seen as utilitarian objects, but also symbols of well-being and the continuity of domestic life. This cleansing procession affirms the role of women as Guardians of domestic harmony as well as liaisons between Indigenous values that are passed down through generations. In addition, the use of natural elements such as palias grass, ash from upstream rice, and mulang water strengthens the spiritual dimension that unites humans with the surrounding nature. Thus, the Neres tradition can be understood as a communication ritual that contains symbolic messages, affirms the central role of women in the preservation of culture, and represents the collective identity of the Kasepuhan Citorek community that persists in the midst of changing times.

Abstract

In discourse studies, a text is not neutral from the author's or speaker's values, which are realized in the choice of vocabulary. This study aims to reveal the propaganda of the threat of identity politics in the text of Jokowi's speech. The research data was taken from www.setkab.go.id about the President's speech in 2020-2023. The research uses critical discourse analysis with Fairclough's approach, which divides the analysis into three levels: text analysis, discourse practice analysis, and social practice. Based on the results of the study during 2020-2023, there were eleven texts of Jokowi's speeches that contained identity politics discourse. In the textual analysis, Jokowi's propaganda can be seen through name calling through the use of metonymy for identity politics in the form of SARA and religious politicization. In the analysis of discourse practice, propaganda is seen from the existence of psychological ties as a government coalition party for PPP and PAN to behave the same as Jokowi even though both are parties based on religious identity (Islam). There is also uniformity in the views of institutions under President Jokowi. The social practice analysis shows that the current propaganda that attaches identity politics as the politicization of SARA and religion has succeeded in separating identity politics from the politics of minority struggle against majority hegemony and has succeeded in covering other forms of identity politics.
