Abstract

Candidiasis infection is often found in tropical area populations such as Indonesia with the main causative agent is Candida albicans (C.albicans). The peels of Citrus aurantifolia (C. aurantifolia) and Citrus hystrix DC (C. hystrix) contain several active compounds that can be used as alternative antifungals. This study aims to analyze the antifungal activity of C. aurantifolia and C. hystrix DC fruit peels extracts in single and combination forms in inhibiting the growth of C. albicans. This study method was a posttest-only with control group design, using the diffusion test method. The test treatments in 3 repetitions consisting of ethanol extracts from C.aurantifolia (Ca) and C. hystrix (Ch) fruit peels in single and combinations (Ca+Ch) concentrations at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, the controls used ketoconazole and DMSO 1% . Analysis of inhibitory zone data as an antifungal effect on C.albicans ATCC 10231 using the One-way Anova test, Post Hoc Duncan test, and the independent T-test. The results showed that the difference in the inhibitory zone produced by the combination treatment effect greater than the single treatment (p<0.05), Ca100%+Ch100% treatment produced the widest inhibitory zone, which was 21.19 mm, and was not significantly different from ketoconazole. In conclusion, the combination of ethanol extract from C. aurantifolia and C. hystrix DC fruit peels produced a greater antifungal effect than either single preparation in inhibiting the growth of C. albicans.

Abstract

Candida albicans (C. albicans) is an opportunistic pathogenic fungus that causes candidiasis. Eichhornia crassipes (EC) and Pistia stratiotes (PS) are known to contain antifungal bioactive compounds. This study aims to analyze the effect of the combination of EC and PS extracts on C. albicans, which produces optimum inhibition. The design of this study used a post-test only with in-vitro control group design. Combination treatment of EC and PE extracts 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% (ratio 1:1), control of ketoconazole and 10% DMSO. Data analysis used Duncan's One-way Anova and post-hoc tests. The diameter of the inhibition zone resulting from the EC+PS combination treatment was moderate (8,63 ± 0,50 mm) to very strong (21,12 ± 0,002 mm). There was a significantly different effect between the EC+PS combination treatments (p>0,05). The inhibition zone in the EC100%+PS100% combination treatment was the largest and the effect was equivalent to that of ketoconazole (p<0,05). In conclusion, the EC+PS combination treatment produced varying optimum inhibition against C. albicans which was in line with the concentration of the EC+PS combination.

Abstract

Abstract: Transmission of infection by Escherichia coli (E.coli) can be prevented with antiseptics such as alcohol. Natural antiseptics in combination dosage forms can produce stronger antibacterial effects. Betel leaves (P.betle) and yellow roots (F.tinctoria) contain antibacterial properties. The aim of this research is to test the effect of a combination of P.betle and F.tinctoria infusion (PB+FT) on E.coli ATCC 25922. This posttest-only with control group design uses the parameters of the phenol coefficient and inhibition zone values. The treatments in the phenol coefficient test were PB+FT, 70% alcohol control, and 5% phenol in serial dilutions of 1:20-1:250. In the inhibition test using PB+FT, concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% as well as 70% alcohol and sterile distilled water were used. The results of calculating the average value of the phenol coefficient from PB+FT, obtained a value >1 and control <1. The results of statistical tests showed that the effect in the form of an average inhibition zone was influenced by the concentration of PB+FT. The average inhibition zone of PB+FT75% is not significantly different from 70% alcohol and PB+FT100% produces a very strong inhibition zone. Conclusion, PB+FT infusion produces a strong effect against E.coli. Keywords: Fibrauera tinctoria lour roots, Piper betle Linn leaves, Escherichia coli, phenol coefficient, zone of inhibition Abstrak: Penularan infeksi oleh Escherichia coli (E.coli) dapat decegah dengan antiseptik seperti alkohol. Antiseptik alami pada bentuk sediaan kombinasi dapat menghasilkan efek antibakteri lebih kuat. Daun sirih (P.betle) dan akar kuning (F.tinctoria) memiliki kandungan bersifat antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu menguji efek kombinasi infus P.betle dan F.tinctoria (PB+FT) terhadap E.coli ATCC 25922. Rancangan penelitian posttest-only with control group design ini menggunakan parameter nilai koefisien fenol dan zona hambat. Perlakuan pada uji koefisien fenol yaitu PB+FT, kontrol alkohol 70%, dan fenol 5% pada serial pengenceran 1:20-1:250. Pada uji daya hambat menggunkan PB+FT menggunakan konsentrasi 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, dan 100% serta alkohol 70% dan akuades steril. Hasil perhitungan nilai reta-rata koefisien fenol dari PB+FT, diperoleh nilai >1 dan kontrol <1. Hasil uji statistik, didapatkan efek berupa rata-rata zona hambat dipengaruhi oleh konsentrasi PB+FT. Rerata zona hambat dari PB+FT75% tidak berbeda nyata dengan alkohol 70% dan PB+FT100% menghasilkan zona hambat tergolong sangat kuat. Kesimpulan, infus PB+FT menghasilkan efek yang kuat terhadap E.coli. Kata-kata kunci: akar Fibrauera tinctoria lour, daun Piper betle Linn, Escherichia coli, koefisien fenol, zona hambat.

Abstract

Opportunistic pathogenic microbes are often a problem in the treatment of infections because of their ability to form biofilms. The structure of the irreversible components of the glycocalyx or microbial capsule plays a role in protecting it from antimicrobial exposure and disinfection. The effectiveness of antibiofilms needs to be evaluated, including those from natural preparations. Citrus hystrix DC. (C.hystrix) contains antimicrobial compounds and its activity as an antibiofilm needs to be known. This experimental research aims to test the anti-biofilm effect of C.hystrix extract against standard microbial isolates. The dilution method with tube-test was used to analyze the antibiofilm effect of a combination of C. hystrix leaf and peel extracts (6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) with 70% ethanol control. Antibiofilm observations are qualitatively based on the Minimum Biofilm Inhibitory Concentration (MBIC) and quantitatively based on the Mean Gray Value (MGV) of biofilm intensity. The results of observations in 3 experiments showed that the MBIC of C.hystix extract was 6.25% for gram-positive bacteria and 12.5% for gram-negative bacteria and Candida. The average MGV of C.hystrix extract was 75%, equivalent to 70% ethanol for all test microbes (p.0.05). The highest average MGV was produced by 100% combination extracts for S.epidermidis (138,09±0,36), S.aureus (135,69±2,01), E.coli (134,75±0,89), P.aeruginosa (130,76±0,24), and C.albicans (130,41±0,41). In conclusion, hystrix orange leaf and peel extracts produce anti-biofilm activity against test microbes in-vitro.

Abstract

Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes are weeds that often pollute water areas. These two contain various active compounds that act as antimicrobials, which have the potential as disinfection agents to prevent the transmission of pathogenic bacteria and fungi. An antimicrobial substance is said to be effective as a good disinfectant if it has a phenol coefficient value equal to or more than the 5% phenol comparison substance. The aim of this research was to test the effectiveness of a combination of Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes extracts as a disinfection candidate through the phenol coefficient test. This in vitro experimental study was carried out using a dilution technique. The combination treatment of Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes extracts and 5% phenol was tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi and also Candida albicans yeast. Observations on the test media suspension tubes that were clear or did not show the growth of the test microbes for a period of 5, 10, and 15 minutes. The phenol coefficient value of the combination treatment of Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes extracts was ≥1 with 5% phenol as comparison. Higher coefficient values were obtained for Staphylococcus aureus, equivalent values of 5% phenol were found for E.coli, P.aeruginosa, and C.albicans; whereas in S.typhi the value is <1. The combination treatment of E.crassipes and P.stratiotes extracts resulted in a phenol coefficient value equivalent to that of 5% phenol comparator, for several tested bacteria and yeasts. So it has effectiveness as a preparation for disinfection. The combination of Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes extracts has antimicrobial effectiveness and can be developed as an alternative disinfection candidate.

Abstract

Background:  Eichornia crassipes and Pistia stratoites are aquatic weeds that contain various antimicrobial compounds and have the potential to disinfectants. Objective: This study aims to analyze the antimicrobial activity of extract of Eichornia crassipes and Pistia stratoites as In Vitro disinfection agentsMethods: This in vitro experimental study tested E.crassipes and P.statoites extracts in combined (EC+PS)  forms against several species of bacteria and Candida albicans. The testing of antimicrobial activity using the diffusion method and effectiveness as a disinfectant were tested through the phenol coefficient test. Results: The results of the data analysis of the EC+PS 25%-100% (ratio 1:1) treatment using the ANOVA test and Duncan's posthoc (significance 95%), obtained different inhibition zones for gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria, and C.albicans; EC100%+PS100 extract produced the widest inhibition zone. The inhibitory power of EC+PS extracts ranged from moderate to strong (> 5 mm - > 20 mm). In the phenol coefficient test using a dilution of 1:20-1:250, a good coefficient value (> 1) was obtained from the EC+PS extract treatment and the disinfectant control for all test organisms.  Conclusion: E.crassipes and P.stratoites extracts can produce antimicrobial activity with a good phenol coefficient value, which makes their combination a natural disinfectant.

Abstract

Backgrounds: Production of Sapat siam fish is ranked second after Papuyu. Giving fish in cases of wasting can overcome mineral deficiencies in wasting sufferers, because fish contains minerals. Wasting sufferers experience Fe, Ca and Zn deficiencies. There is a relationship between cases of wasting and the incidence of anemia. Anemia sufferers experience a decrease in appetite. Until now, there is no known effect of giving the minerals Fe, Ca and Zn on appetite regulation. Objectives: This research aims to determine the mineral content of Sapat siam fish specifically Fe, Ca and Zn and the influence of that minerals on appetite regulation in silico.Methods: Analysis of mineral content in Sapat siam fish meat using the AAS method and analysis of the influence of Fe, Ca and Zn minerals using the in-silico method.Results: Sapat siam fish meat contains Fe, Ca and Zn with concentrations of 34.5 ± 0.8485, 1,670 ± 183.8478 and 22.8 ± 0.1414, respectively. The presence of Fe, Ca and Zn in Sapat siam fish meat prediction can binding with ligand Ghrelin, leptin, NPY (Neuropeptide Y), ARC, IL-1β, AgRP Conclusion: Sapat siam fish prediction can stimulate appetite

Abstract

Abstract: Landfills were the focus of attention because they operated by open dumping and were a source of environmental problems. Scavengers in landfills were at risk of occupational diseases, namely dermatophytosis. The incidence of dermatophytosis could be prevented by maintaining personal hygiene and using personal protective equipment (PPE) during work. The study aimed to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and the use of PPE with the incidence of dermatophytosis among waste pickers of Basirih landfill in Banjarmasin. The method used was analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach. The statistical tests used were the chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. The results showed that 86% of waste pickers showed good personal hygiene, and 68% used PPE completely. The prevalence of dermatophytosis reached 34%, with 5 people among respondents with poor hygiene and 9 people among those who did not use complete PPE experiencing dermatophytosis. It was concluded that there was a significant association between personal hygiene (p-value = 0.037) and PPE use (p-value = 0.050) with the incidence of dermatophytosis.  Keywords: PPE, dermatophytosis, personal hygiene, scavengers, landfill Abstrak: Tempat pemrosesan akhir menjadi sorotan utama karena beroperasi dengan metode open dumping dan menjadi sumber permasalahan lingkungan. Pekerja pemulung di TPA berisiko terkena penyakit akibat kerja, yakni dermatofitosis. Mencegah kejadian dermatofitosis dapat dilakukan dengan meningkatkan kebersihan perorangan dan menggunakan alat pelindung diri selama bekerja. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menetapkan korelasi antara kebersihan perorangan dan pemanfaatan APD dengan kejadian dermatofitosis di kalangan pemulung TPA Basirih Banjarmasin. Metode yang diterapkan adalah observasional analitik dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Uji statistik yang digunakan mencakup Uji chi-square dan Uji Fisher’s exact. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 86% pemulung menunjukkan tingkat kebersihan perorangan yang baik, dan 68% menggunakan APD secara menyeluruh. Angka kejadian dermatofitosis mencapai 34%, dengan 5 responden berkebersihan buruk dan 9 orang yang tidak menggunakan APD lengkap mengalami dermatofitosis. Kesimpulan penelitian menegaskan adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara kebersihan perorangan (p-value = 0,037) dan pemanfaatan APD (p-value = 0,050) dengan kejadian dermatofitosis. Kata-kata kunci: APD, dermatofitosis, hygiene perorangan, pemulung, TPA

Abstract

Penyakit hipertensi dan anemia masih banyak dikeluhkan oleh masyarakat eks-transmigrasi (X-Trans) asal Lombok di Desa Mandastana, Kabupaten Barito, Provinsi Kalimantan Selatan. Di lingkungan masyarakat banyak ditemukan tanaman khas rawa diantaranya katuk dan kelakai. Masyarakat telah dimanfaatkan hanya sebagai sop (sayur bening). Mengolah sayuran lokal dalam variasi menu makanan belum banyak diketahui masyarakat. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini bertujuan memberikan pengetahuan cara olahan makanan berbahan katuk dan kelakai. Penyuluhan secara langsung diikuti oleh 27 reponden ibu rumah tangga, dengan menyajiakan hasil olahan makanan berbahan sayuran katuk dan kelakai, juga pemberian resep pembuatannya. Evaluasi kegiatan berdasarkan hasil diskusi dan isian kuisioner. Hasil penyuhuan didapatkan peningkatan pengetahuan responden dalam mengolah kedua tanaman sayuran ini. Responden menyatakan kegiatan ini memotivasinya dalam mengolah sayuran menjadi variasi menu makanan sehat dan bernilai ekonomis. Diharapkan masyarakat dapat menjaga kelestraian lingkungan dan memanfaatkan tanaman lokal untuk kesehatan keluarga secara mandiri.

Abstract

Kejadian infeksi water borne disease (WBD) sering ditemukan anak-anak di bantaran sungai. Faktor perilaku Ibu dalam hal cuci tangan pakai sabun (CTPS) diketahui efektif mencegah penularan mikroba melaui tangan. Sosialisasi CTPS yang menarik dapat mudah diterapkan oleh Ibu pada keluarganya. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan mengedukasi CTPS dengan irama lagu “ampar-ampar pisang’ pada keluarga di bantaran Sungai Martapura Desa Keliling Benteng Ulu, Kabupaten Banjar. Edukasi dilakukan pada sasaran ibu rumah tangga beserta anaknya berusia balita. Kegiatan penyuluhan didukung media poster dan video syair lagu CTPS pada kanal YouTube. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui isian kuisioner pre-test dan post-test. Responden menyatakan sangat puas mengikuti kegiatan PKM ini. Hasil evaluasi mengambarkan edukasi ini dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan responden akan pentingnya perilaku CTPS. Diharapkan perilaku CTPS dilakukan secara ritun untuk menjaga kesehatan keluarga secara mandiri. Sosiliasai lebih lanjut dapat dilakukan oleh responden pada masyarakat lainnya.
