Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus was considered one of the most alarming pandemics of the twenty-first century before the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. Glibenclamide (glyburide) is an anti-DM drug of the sulfonylurea class. Several studies have examined one of the medicinal plants, black seed (nigella sativa) as a complementary treatment in the control of DM.Objective: This study determine the effect of the combination of black seed (nigella sativa) and glibenclamide on reducing blood glucose levels. Methods: This research design was an experiment using a pretest posttest design with control group design. This study used 24 mice (mus muscullus) which were divided into 4 groups, namely a negative control group that was only given aquadest, a positive control group that was given alloxane as an induction of hyperglycemia and anti-DM drug glibenclamide, treatment group 1 was given aloxane and Black Seed, and treatment group 2 was given alloxane and a combination of black seed and glibenclamid. Data were analyzed using the Paired T Test with α = 0.05.Results: Blood glucose levels in the black seed and glibenclamid combination treatment group decreased significantly (p=0,00).Conclusion: the combination of black seed (nigella sativa) and glibenclamide is effective in lowering glucose levels.

Abstract

Adolescents with HIV/AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus - Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) continue to increase every year in line with the increase in sex behavior outside of marriage. One of the problems in adolescents with HIV / AIDS is malnutrition status. The purpose of the study was to observe nutritional status in adolescents with HIV / AIDS. The subjects were all adolescents with HIV/AIDS at the Kompeda Surabaya Foundation. The research design in this study is a time series, measuring nutritional status variables at some time using weight parameters according to age. Data collection was carried out on February-April 2022. The measurements were conducted using a bathroom scale. The number of subjects was 150 people with incidental sampling techniques. Inclusion criteria: adolescents diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, living in shelters, allowed by caregivers, ages 12-21, not being hospitalized during the study. Exclusion criteria: died, did not follow complete weight monitoring. During the study none of the subjects resigned nor were excluded from the study. The results of the study found that 90 had normal nutritional status and 60 were abnormal. There is a statistically significant difference in nutritional status between the first and second measurements. Foundation managers need to make efforts by paying more attention to adolescent nutritional intake so that nutritional status can improve.

Abstract

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition that predominantly affects adolescents and young adults. This study aimed to examine the relationship between elevated blood triglyceride levels and the incidence and severity of acne vulgaris in young adults. A cross-sectional design was utilized, involving 85 patients aged 17-25 years from a cosmetic clinic in Surabaya, Indonesia. Triglyceride levels were measured and classified into two categories: normal (less than 150 mg/dL) and high (more than 150 mg/dL). The severity of acne vulgaris was assessed using the Global Acne Grading System (GAGS). Statistical analysis using the chi-square test revealed a significant association between elevated triglyceride levels and the incidence of acne vulgaris (p = 0.03). However, no significant correlation was found between triglyceride levels and acne severity (p = 0.09). These findings suggest that while elevated triglyceride levels may increase the risk of developing acne vulgaris, other factors such as hormonal, genetic, and lifestyle elements may play a more prominent role in determining acne severity. Clinically, reducing triglyceride levels through dietary interventions or pharmacological therapies may serve as a preventive measure for acne vulgaris. Further research is required to explore the mechanisms underlying this relationship and the potential role of lipid management in acne treatment.

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke treatment must be done quickly and precisely because the longer the stroke is not treated immediately, the higher the severity of the stroke. One of the complications of stroke is cerebral circulation disorders which cause several symptoms including cerebral tissue hypoxia. Objective: This study aimed to analyze nursing care for stroke patients by giving elevated head positions to overcome the nursing problem risk of ineffective cerebral perfusion at RSI Surabaya A. Yani. Methods: This research design is a case study with  Mrs. M who has nursing problems at risk of ineffective cerebral perfusion. Data collection was done directly by interview, observation, and physical examination of Mrs. M and her family directly. Nursing interventions for providing elevated head positions are carried out for three days for 30 minutes daily. Results: The results showed that after implementation there was a significant increase in oxygen saturation in Mrs. M on the first day SpO2 95%, on the second day SpO2 97%, and on the third day SpO2 99%. In addition to an increase in oxygen saturation, there was an increase in the outcome criteria to be achieved, namely the level of consciousness on a scale of 4 (moderately improved), headache on a scale of 4 (moderately decreased), average blood pressure values on a scale of 4 (moderately improved), and awareness on a scale of 4 (moderately improved). Conclusions: Giving an elevated head position is effective in increasing oxygen saturation in stroke patients with nursing problems of ineffective cerebral perfusion risk. Room nurses can perform elevation head positioning to improve oxygen saturation in stroke patients with nursing problems at risk of ineffective cerebral perfusion.
