Abstract

Background: Stroke-associated Pneumonia (SAP) is one of the complications that occur in stroke patients and is associated with worse clinical outcomes. Risk factors for SAP and its impact on discharge status remain unclear.Purpose: This study aimed to determine the factors influencing the incidence of stroke-related pneumonia in the hospital and the patient’s discharge status. Methods: A case-control study was conducted at a private hospital in Surabaya from January 2021 to 2022. Medical record data were reviewed to identify stroke patients with suspected or confirmed pneumonia, after which risk factors (age, gender, stroke type, length of stay, stroke frequency, dysphagia, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, COVID-19, and discharge status) associated with the occurrence of SAP were examined. We excluded diagnoses of diseases with clinical manifestations such as tuberculosis-like pneumonia, lung tumor, pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary atelectasis, and incomplete or missing medical record data. Data analysis used the Chi-square test to identify the risk factors for stroke-associated pneumonia. Results: One hundred sixty-three stroke patients treated in all inpatient rooms were diagnosed with pneumonia; 52.8% of them had confirmed pneumonia, while the rest were still suspected of pneumonia. Most pneumonia occurs in ischemic stroke patients (93.9%), first-time stroke patients (87.1%), experienced dysphagia (55.2%), length of stay less than 7 days (55.2%), hypertension (55.2%), diabetes mellitus (57.1%), and discharged home (84%). We also found as much as 12.9% inpatient mortality due to SAP. Dysphagia, DM, and COVID-19 were significantly correlated with the incidence of stroke-associated pneumonia (p=0.000).Conclusion: Stroke-associated pneumonia is a substantial medical complication among stroke patients affected by dysphagia, DM, and COVID-19. Screening for dysphagia is necessary for nurses to prevent SAP in stroke patients.

Abstract

One of the responsibilities of Muslims is to eat halal food. Halal has become a universal signal for ensuring the quality of products and living standards due to obedience and commitment. For Muslims, the availability of halal items is a crucial necessity. As a result, the government is now required to provide halal goods, particularly in nations where the majority population is Muslim. Product awareness affects consumer behavior when selecting items in addition to halal certification. For Muslims, it is essential to have the necessary knowledge while purchasing and consuming halal items. It is crucial since a number of non-Muslim sources in addition to Muslims provide halal-certified goods. The use of pharmaceutical ingredients generated from animals is a significant source of concern for certain customers who have religious or cultural restraints. The use of gene therapy must be adjusted to the type of disease to be treated. Diseases and their genetic relationships must be known first before gene therapy is carried out. If a gene related to a particular disease can be identified, the potential for the disease to be treated will be even greater. Similar with above statement mention that when developing halal pharmaceuticals, it is necessary to investigate alternative materials that meet halal standards while reducing the usage of essential chemicals, as well as several key principles that must be obeyed. As a therapeutic ingredient, everything is regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration regulations. (FDA.gov) The FDA regulates everything regarding cell and gene therapy, starting from safety testing of human cells, the use of animal material for cell and gene therapy purposes, donor eligibility regulations to testing donors of human cells. Regarding whether cell and gene therapy can be categorized as halal or not, it can be seen from whether all the procedures and equipment used have met the requirements in the halal certification process or not.

Abstract

This cross-sectional study examined whether body dissatisfaction and eating-disorder risk are associated with nutritional status among university health students in Surabaya, Indonesia. Using quota sampling, 117 students completed validated measures of body dissatisfaction (Contour Drawing Rating Scale, CDRS) and eating-disorder risk (Eating Attitudes Test-26, EAT-26); height and weight were measured to compute BMI as the indicator of nutritional status. Descriptive statistics characterized the sample, and chi-square tests assessed bivariate associations. Most respondents reported body dissatisfaction (82.1%), and 29.9% screened positive for elevated eating-disorder risk. Body dissatisfaction showed no significant association with nutritional status (p = 0.971), whereas eating-disorder risk was significantly associated with abnormal nutritional status (p = 0.003). These findings indicate a perceptual–behavioral decoupling in which dissatisfaction with body shape/size does not necessarily translate into measurable BMI differences at a single time point, while maladaptive eating behaviors are more proximally linked to weight-related outcomes. Scientifically, this contributes evidence that eating-disorder risk—not dissatisfaction per se—is the more informative correlate of nutritional status in this population. Practically, campus health programs should prioritize structured screening and early management of risky eating behaviors alongside upstream body-image literacy and counseling to reduce progression to disordered eating. Further research should test mediation/moderation pathways and employ probability sampling to strengthen generalizability.
