Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus remains a prevalent global disease and can lead to both physical and psychological complications. One of the most common psychological impacts is diabetes distress, which refers to emotional stress caused by the continuous demands of managing diabetes. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between diabetes self-management and diabetes distress among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Jemursari Islamic Hospital, Surabaya. Methods: This study used a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 174 patients were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The independent variable was diabetes self-management education, and the dependent variable was diabetes distress. Data collection instruments included the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) and the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Result: The results showed a significant relationship between diabetes self-management and diabetes distress (p = 0.001), indicating that higher levels of self-management education are associated with lower levels of diabetes distress. Conclusion: This study concludes that better diabetes self-management is significantly associated with lower levels of diabetes distress among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Improving patients’ ability to manage their condition through consistent and comprehensive self-management education may help reduce psychological distress and enhance overall quality of life.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes is associated with a progressive decline in patients' quality of life (QoL). Self-efficacy and adherence are critical behavioral determinants that influence disease management and outcomes. This study examines the correlation between self- efficacy and adherence to quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study used a correlational analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at Islamic Hospital Jemursari, Surabaya, from August to October 2024. The population consisted of 307 patients with diabetes, and 174 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires: the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale (DMSES), the Adherence to Diabetes Questionnaire (ADQ), and the Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL)questionnaire. Data analysis was the Spearman's Rank correlation test. The results showed that nearly half of the respondents reported low self-efficacy, most had low adherence, and 60.3% experienced poor QoL. Spearman analysis demonstrated a significant correlation between self-efficacy and QoL (r = 0.647; p < 0.000), and between adherence and QoL (r = 0.684; p < 0.000). In conclusion, self-efficacy and adherence are strong predictors of quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Jemursari Islamic Hospital, Surabaya. Future research should investigate interventions to enhance self-efficacy and adherence, particularly among patients with a poor quality of life, to develop more effective strategies for supporting diabetes care.

Abstract

The population in this study were all type 2 DM DM beneficiaries and the sample used was 60 respondents using simple random sampling. The independent variable is autogenic relaxation with sandalwood aromatherapy while the dependent variable is sleep quality. The data in this study are numerical so that it is analyzed using parametric statistical tests namely paired sample t test and independent sample t test. Results: The results showed that the quality of pre and post sleep based on the Paired t-test obtained p value = 0,000 (p <0.05), and in the intervention group an increase in sleep quality was greater than the control group marked by the t-value of 22 , 40. Based on the independent sample t-test, p = 0,000 was obtained, so it can be concluded that there were significant differences in sleep quality changes between the control and intervention groups. Conclusion: Autogenic relaxation with sandalwood aromatherapy has a positive impact on sleep quality. Abstract

Treatment for people with mental disorders (orang dengan gangguan jiwa, ODGJ) in Gresik Regency is still limited to curative (medication) because Gresik Regency does not yet have adequate psychosocial rehabilitation facilities (RPS). RPS aims to restore the social functions of ODGJ so that they are more productive according to their abilities. Activity goals. To initiate the hospital-based RPS activities. Problem-solving framework. The framework is carried out through several activities, such as conducting assessments and focused group discussions with hospitals managers as potential partners, creating RPS service guidelines, conducting training and upgrading skills for health workers, involving ODGJ, families, and health cadres in RPS services, and planning a follow-up with the community health center (community health center, puskesmas), social institutions, and local officials. Results. Grha Husada Gresik Hospital (RSGH) is willing to initiate RPS services in Gresik Regency. This RPS service will be carried out for a minimum of two years, with ODGJ clinical evaluations every three months. The RSGH’s advantage is that it has 4 (four) certified health workers as behavior therapists for children with special needs (ABK). The RPS module was made by modifying the ABK behavior therapy module to suit the needs of adult ODGJ. RPS training is carried out based on the module. A total of 30 participants attended the initial RPS service, consisting of 10 ODGJ patients, 10 companions, and 10 local health cadres. The consistency of the arrival of ODGJ and companions is still low, due to the lack of awareness of the benefits of RPS services. RSGH and the health cadres took the initiative together to pick them up, but the arrival rate was still around 5-6 people per meeting. Conclusion. Good cooperation between hospitals, health cadres, and families is the first step for sustainable RPS services. The main challenge is to raise awareness of the need for RPS services for patients and their families.
