Abstract

This research began with the phenomenon of making rebab initiated by Raharja (hereinafter referred to as rebab Raharja). This produk is a realization of the stimulus of the idea of developing musical instruments in 1993, when he studed at ISI Yogyakarta. The idea of creating rebab Raharja was motivated by the emergence of contradictory criticism of the use of conventional rebab in the presentation of Raharja's gamelan in 1993. There are several parts of his musical composition that have a hard nuance and the presentation of the rebab is done in a standing position. Anticipatory efforts were carried out creatively by taking a number of innovative steps. The goal is that the new rebab details can be used in the context of presenting contemporary musical works. The process of making and experimenting with making rebab Raharja has taken place three times, that was in 1994, 2010, and 2023. Each stage produces two products that have differences in physical and non-physical aspects. The purpose of this study was to examine and describe Raharja's innovation. The realization of his ideas has been carried out in several aspects, such as: technology of making the rebab’s body with resin as an alternative material to replace wood, the design of the shape and construction of the rebab, and the application of electrical technology products as sound generating devices. The method applied in this study is qualitative descriptive analysis. The method and nature of the research are applied to analyze and describe the innovation and process of making Raharja’s rebab. The physical aspect is studied using the discipline of organology, while the sound quality and its processing are carried out using acoustics, a branch of physics that discusses sound. The results obtained from this study are in the form of a description of the meaning of innovation, forms of innovation, knowledge of materials, making design shapes and construction, the process of making the rebab’s body and the process of producing sound by applying electrical technology products. The realization of this idea, changing the physical appearance and sound quality can be processed to be more diverse. As far as the author knows, there has been no rebab made like Raharja's idea. The innovation that has been carried out has the opportunity to be applied to other details, either with the same or different thinking. In essence, it has a noble goal to develop and globalize gamelan through the development of its musical instruments, so that it has a functional suitability and technological equality with other musical instruments.

Abstract

This research performs a comprehensive landslide hazard mapping in Kampar Regency by integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) technology with a weighted overlay modeling approach based on four critical physical parameters: slope gradient, rainfall intensity, soil type erodibility, and land use characteristics. Utilizing classification standards from BAPPEDA and weighting methods from Taufik Q, Firdaus et al. (2012) and BNPB Regulation No. 02 of 2012, the study identifies that the region is dominated by rainfall intensities of 2501–3000 mm/year and a significant distribution of Andosol soil types which contribute to soil instability. The spatial analysis results categorize the hazard levels into three classes—Safe, Moderately Prone, and Prone—revealing that XIII Koto Kampar Subdistrict faces the highest risk with a prone area of 88,008.48 hectares (92.36%), primarily due to steep topography and high runoff velocity, whereas Bangkinang Subdistrict is identified as the safest area with a low-risk coverage of 6,836.66 hectares (28.20%). These findings conclude that land use with high vegetation density, such as forests which cover 73,154.26 hectares, plays a vital role in reducing runoff, and the resulting hazard map serves as a crucial spatial decision-support tool for disaster mitigation and regional planning in Kampar Regency.

Abstract

Spatial thinking is one of the essential cognitive competencies in geography education because it enables students to understand spatial concepts, use representational tools, and reason about the spatial relationships among phenomena on the Earth’s surface. However, various studies have shown that the spatial thinking skills of Indonesian high school students remain suboptimal, particularly in the aspects of visualization, pattern analysis, and spatial interconnection. A similar condition was also found at SMA Negeri 1 Gaung Anak Serka, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province, where students still experienced difficulties in reading maps, relating the location of a region to its physical and social conditions, and explaining geospatial phenomena spatially. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Geo-STAR Model and analyze its effect on improving the spatial thinking skills of Grade X Phase E students on the Atmosphere topic. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of class X.3 as the experimental group and class X.1 as the control group, selected through purposive sampling. The Geo-STAR Model was implemented through six learning syntaxes that integrated Google Earth, National Geographic MapMaker, Assemblr Edu (Augmented Reality), Mentimeter, and Seesaw. The results showed that the model was implemented according to the syntax and was able to create interactive, contextual, and spatial-exploration-based learning. There was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores in the experimental class with a significance value of 0.000. The average N-Gain of the experimental class reached 0.86 and was categorized as high, while the control class obtained an average N-Gain of 0.68, which fell into the medium category. Thus, the Geo-STAR Model has been proven to have a positive and significant effect on improving students’ spatial thinking skills in geography learning on the Atmosphere topic.
