Abstract

The ability of mathematical creative thinking is essential for students to possess, but in reality, the level of mathematical creativity in Indonesia remains comparatively low. This study aims to find out if learning with PACE-GeoGebra helps improve students' mathematical creative thinking abilities and to understand how self-regulated learning relates to the improvement of these abilities through PACE-GeoGebra. Quasi-experimental research methodology is employed. The study uses a non-equivalent comparison group design. All of the 10th graders enrolled in one of Cianjur's high schools for the 2024–2025 school year make up the study's population. Two classes—classes X-E and X-F—were chosen as samples from the population using a purposive sampling technique. While the control group employed the standard learning model, the experimental group employed the PACE-GeoGebra learning model. Tests and questionnaires with information on quadratic functions were the tools utilized. Using the two-sample mean equality test, data analysis was done on the average gain index between the two sample classes. The research results show that (1) there is a significant difference in the improvement of mathematical creative thinking abilities between students who use the PACE-GeoGebra approach and students who use conventional learning. (2) There is a correlation between student self-regulated learning and the improvement of mathematical creative thinking skills through PACE-GeoGebra learning.

Abstract

Students' mathematical investigation ability is not only influenced by cognitive knowledge, but also by affective factors such as mathematical disposition and self-esteem. This study aims to analyze the effect of mathematical disposition on students' mathematical investigation ability, analyze the effect of self-esteem on students' mathematical investigation ability, and analyze the effect of mathematical disposition and self-esteem on students' mathematical investigation ability. This study uses a quantitative approach. The population of the study was 49 students of class XI of a private high school in Cianjur Regency in the 2024/2025 academic year. The sample in this study was class XI-1 selected by purposive sampling. The research instruments were mathematical disposition and self-esteem questionnaires, as well as students' mathematical investigation ability tests on circle material. In addition, interviews were conducted with several students to strengthen the results of the mathematical investigation test. The data analysis techniques used included simple linear regression tests and multiple linear regression tests, by first ensuring that the classical assumptions were met. The results of the study showed that there was a significant influence between mathematical disposition and mathematical investigation ability of 40.2%. Meanwhile, self-esteem did not have a significant effect on mathematical investigation ability, with a contribution of 18.7%. Simultaneously, mathematical disposition and self-esteem had a significant effect on students' mathematical investigation ability, with a contribution of 31.6%. This finding emphasizes the importance of strengthening mathematical disposition in learning to improve students' mathematical investigation ability

Abstract

Students struggle to determine simple equations when given the asymptotes and vertices or the equation of a hyperbola and the length of the major axis. This difficulty stems from the limited learning resources educators use when teaching conic sections. This study aims to develop GeoGebra-assisted worksheets that contextualize the concept of conic sections in a way that is valid and practical for high school students. This is a development study based on the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The test subjects in this study were 16 students from a private high school in Cianjur during the 2024–2025 academic year. The results of this study indicate that the GeoGebra-assisted worksheets for pupils, featuring contextual problems on the topic of conic sections, are valid and practical. The average expert validation score was 83.3%, meaning the average expert validation score falls within the “Highly valid” category and is suitable for testing. Meanwhile, the percentage of student responses to the GeoGebra-assisted worksheets developed was 75%, falling into the “Practical” category. This indicates that the developed material can be used as a teaching aid for senior secondary school students on the topic of conic sections. Developing mathematics teaching materials in the form of GeoGebra-assisted worksheets on the topic of conic sections for senior secondary school students, which have been tested for validity and practicality. The results of the development show that (1) the assessment of the GeoGebra-supported worksheets regarding the aspect of presentation suitability, using the Guttman scale, yielded an average of 83.3%, meeting the criterion of “highly valid." (2) The results of the practicality test, based on student assessments in the student response questionnaire, yielded an average of 81% for indicator 1, meeting the criterion of “highly practical”; 79% for indicator 2, meeting the criterion of “practical”; and 67% for indicator 3, meeting the criterion of "practical." Thus, it can be concluded that the worksheets teaching materials supported by the GeoGebra application on the topic of Conic Sections for senior high school/vocational school students have been proven to be valid and practical.

Abstract

Low mathematical understanding among elementary school students in Indonesia is a pressing problem, as National Assessment data show that only 28.7% of elementary students achieve adequate numeracy competence. One primary cause is the scarcity of contextual, innovative learning media capable of connecting abstract mathematical concepts to students' lived experiences. This study develops an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based cartoon medium set within the Cianjur tauco local wisdom context to improve the mathematical understanding of fourth-grade elementary students. The method employed was Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Sixty fourth-grade students of SDN Pasarsuuk, Cianjur Regency, participated—32 in the experimental group (class IVA) and 28 in the control group (class IVB)—selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included expert validation sheets, practicality observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and mathematical understanding tests in pre-test and post-test form. Results showed a mean validity score of 3.78 (very valid), a mean practicality score of 3.75 (very practical), and positive student responses of 87.5%. The class average rose from 58.40 to 79.20, with an N-Gain of 0.49 (moderate) and a mastery rate of 81.3%. The novelty of this study lies in simultaneously integrating generative AI technology, visual-narrative cartoon format, and Cianjur tauco local wisdom into a single contextual, meaningful, and culturally grounded mathematics learning media product.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the hidden mathematical concepts behind the rice farming activities of Pandanwangi Cianjur. The research method is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The research location is in Pandanwangi Cultural Village, Bunikasih Village, Warungkondang District, Cianjur Regency, West Java. Pandanwangi Cultural Village was deliberately built by the Cianjur Regency Government to further introduce pandanwangi rice, which is the superior local variety of Cianjur Regency. Pandawangi rice farmers' cultural activities contain mathematical concepts that arise when determining seed class, number of seeds, nursery preparation, final seed selection with salt solution, seeding in nurseries, nursery maintenance, preparation of planting land, planting, fertilization in planting areas, planting maintenance, harvest, and post-harvest. The findings of this study show that there are mathematical concepts in agricultural activities on geometric content, including determining points, lines, angles, the area of flat shapes, the similarity of flat shapes, and algebra, including comparisons, percentages, and social arithmetic. The results of the research can be used as a teaching module to facilitate learning for students in the school curriculum.

Abstract

This study addresses the persistent challenge of low mathematical performance among Indonesian secondary students, particularly in learning number patterns, by developing culturally responsive teaching materials. Although Indonesia’s PISA performance has improved, students remain below the OECD average, with prior studies highlighting difficulties in pattern recognition, symbolic representation, and generalization. To address this issue, the study bridges abstract mathematical concepts with students’ cultural contexts through the development of ethnomathematics-based student worksheets integrating Sundanese Pupuh, a traditional literary art form characterized by structured numerical patterns in syllable counts and line arrangements. The research employed a Research and Development approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The worksheets were designed to explicitly connect the inherent mathematical structures of Pupuh—guru wilangan and guru lagu—with formal number pattern concepts in the eighth-grade mathematics curriculum. The development process included needs analysis, alignment with Indonesia’s Merdeka Curriculum, and analysis of student characteristics. Expert validation conducted by mathematics education lecturers and prospective teachers resulted in a combined validity score of 90%, categorized as very valid. Practicality testing with eighth-grade students yielded a score of 92.6%, indicating high usability. This study contributes to mathematics education in three key ways: (1) introducing a novel pedagogical use of indigenous cultural heritage to support abstract mathematical learning, (2) providing empirically validated culturally responsive worksheets that address specific difficulties in number pattern learning, and (3) offering a replicable framework for integrating ethnomathematics into formal curricula. The findings suggest that culturally grounded instruction can enhance student engagement and conceptual understanding, with potential application to other cultural contexts.

Abstract

Purpose - Ethno-STEAM integrates cultural knowledge with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to provide contextualized and meaningful interdisciplinary learning. This study aims to map research trends and learning outcomes associated with Ethno-STEAM implementation in Scopus-indexed publications. Methodology - A bibliometric design was employed using 284 Scopus-indexed publications retrieved through a structured keyword search. Data were analyzed using ScientoPy for publication performance, citations, geographical distribution, and research characteristics, complemented by keyword co-occurrence, thematic clustering, and temporal evolution analyses. Selected studies were examined to identify associated learning outcomes. Findings - Research increased substantially during 2022–2025, with journal articles showing the strongest growth. Indonesia was the leading contributor, followed by Malaysia. Dominant themes included project-based learning, critical thinking, STEM, ethnoscience, creative thinking, and science learning, while problem-based learning, educational technology, science education, and local wisdom emerged as growing areas. Reported outcomes included critical and creative thinking, problem solving, higher-order thinking, literacy, digital competencies, cultural awareness, character development, and ecological awareness. Novelty - This study provides an integrated Scopus-based mapping of Ethno-STEAM implementation, research trends, thematic development, and learning outcomes. Significance - The findings benefit researchers, educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers in advancing culturally grounded interdisciplinary education.

Abstract

Geometric transformations are difficult for students to understand because the topic is abstract and requires strong visual-spatial ability, while the limited availability of engaging learning media may reinforce misconceptions and hinder meaningful conceptual understanding. This study aimed to develop a Powtoon-based animated video integrating an ethnomathematical approach based on Wayang Golek, a traditional Sundanese puppet art, for teaching geometric transformations to junior secondary school students, and to examine its validity and practicality. A Research and Development (R&D) design was employed using the 4D model, limited to the Define, Design, and Develop stages. The participants were one mathematics education lecturer, one mathematics teacher, and three Grade IX students from a junior secondary school in Cianjur Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through validation sheets completed by the two experts and a student response questionnaire, and were analysed using the Guttman scale. The validation results indicated that the media was very valid, with an average score of 95.71%, while the student responses indicated that it was very practical, with a score of 98%. These findings provide preliminary evidence that the developed video is valid and practical as a culturally contextualised learning medium for geometric transformations, although its effectiveness in improving learning outcomes was not evaluated. The media therefore offers potential support for quality, inclusive, and culturally relevant mathematics learning, consistent with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4). This study contributes to mathematics education by demonstrating how local cultural artefacts can be systematically translated into validated digital representations of geometric transformations, thereby providing a practical model for integrating ethnomathematics, animation technology, and culturally relevant learning.
