Abstract

Vitamin A is an important nutrient during puerperium. Vitamin A deficiency can cause night blindness. Data from the Banjar District Health Office coverage of postpartum mothers who received Vitamin A in the work area of the West Martapura Health Center decreased in 2015-2017 by 100% to 71.8%. Data from interviews with mothers said that the health information obtained was only in the form of lectures with KIA book aids, and never used media such as videos and leaflets when pregnant women took classes. The aim of the study was to determine the effectiveness of health education using leaflet and audiovisual media to increase knowledge about the importance of vitamin A for postpartum mothers in the work area of Martapura Barat Health Center in 2019. This research method uses Quasi Experiment with a non randomized control group pretest posttest design approach. The population in this study were pregnant women in two villages in the Martapura Barat Community Health Center working area. The sampling technique used saturated sampling as many as 45 people. The test results on the score of respondents' knowledge about the importance of vitamin A for postpartum mothers before and after being given health education using leaflet and audiovisual media experienced an increase with the difference in the average score of leaflets 1.88 and audiovisual media 2.86. Based on the results of the independent posttest t test it can be concluded that Sig. 0.032 <0.05 means that there are differences in the average value of the leaflet group and the average value of the audiovisual group. The conclusion of this study is that there is a difference in the effectiveness of health education in the leaflet and audiovisual groups towards increasing knowledge about the importance of vitamin A for postpartum mothers in the work area of West Martapura Community Health Center in 2019.

Abstract

The maternal mortality rate in Tapin Regency was the highest in South Kalimantan Province in 2022 (MMR= 303/100,000 KH) and 2023 (MMR= 287/100,000 KH) dominated by preeclampsia as the highest cause. Datu Sanggul Hospital has the highest number of maternal deaths, 16 out of 20 maternal deaths in 2022-2023. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between risk factors that affect the occurrence of severe pre-eclampsia complications at the Public Hospital of Datu Sanggul in 2022-2023.. This study used an observational analytic method with a case-control design and simple random sampling technique. Samples in this study were 90 respondents, 45 with Severe Pre Eclampsia with complications and 45 without complications. The dependent variables were maternal age, parity, gestational age, multiple pregnancies, obesity, hypertension history, and diabetes mellitus history taken from secondary data. Statistical analysis used was chi-square and odds ratio. The results showed that there was a significant relation between hypertension history on the occurrence of Severe Pre Eclampsia complications (p-value 0.034) and a risk of 2.737 times to experience Severe Pre Eclampsia with complications. There is no significant relationship between maternal age (p-value 1,000), parity (p-value 0,395), gestational age (p-value 0,199), multiple pregnancies (p-value 0,361), obesity (p-value 1,000), diabetes mellitus history (p-value 0,352) on the occurrence of Severe Pre Eclampsia complications at Public Hospital of Datu Sanggul in 2022-2023. In conclusion, Hypertension history is a variable that has a significant relation to the occurrence of Severe Pre Eclampsia complications.

Abstract

Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is one of the causes of obstetric complications that impact increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. PROM diagnosis generally uses litmus paper, but this method still has the weakness of subjectivity of the results. This study aims to develop pantyliners with a natural indicator based on turmeric extract (Curcuma longa L.) as an alternative to detect PROM. Purely experimental research was conducted in the laboratory and Sultan Suriansyah Hospital, Banjarmasin. Phytochemical tests showed that turmeric extract positively contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and quinones that act as antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, antimicrobials, and immunomodulators. GC-MS tests showed the dominant compounds were Ar-turmerone (29.38%) and Alpha-turmerone (22.79%), with supporting compounds in the form of vanillin, aromatic phenolics, and fatty acid esters. Turmeric extract immobilized on pantyliners showed significant color changes when dripped with amniotic fluid (reddish brown), vaginal secretions (bright yellow), and urine (yellow). Statistical tests showed a significant effect (p<0.005) between changes in pantyliner color and the diagnosis of PROM. These results demonstrate that turmeric extract contains antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory properties and has the potential to be used as an environmentally friendly natural indicator for early detection of PROM.
