Abstract

This study examines the interconnection between cultural ecosystem services, community practices, and environmental degradation in the downstream area of the Batang Arau River, Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, archival analysis, and field observations. Findings indicate that the river functions not only as an ecological system but also as a cultural and social space, historically tied to traditions such as Selaju Sampan Dayung Palinggam and riverside livelihoods. However, ecological decline—driven by pollution, sedimentation, and weak institutional coordination—has disrupted cultural services, reduced community attachment, and weakened environmental stewardship. The results emphasize that sustainable ecosystem management (SEM) in urban river systems requires more than ecological restoration; it must also include socio-cultural revitalization and participatory governance. Theoretically, this study expands sustainability literature by underscoring the role of cultural ecosystem services and place-based identity. Empirically, it provides grounded evidence that informs inclusive policy strategies, highlighting community-based tourism, heritage conservation, and environmental education as pathways to restore ecological and cultural integrity.

Abstract

Cooperatives are suitable institutions to coordinate and manage the resources that owned by smallholders. To be sustainable, the formation of cooperatives must be based on individual awareness through collective action. To find out the most influencing factors for smallholder tea plantation farmers to join cooperatives, research was conducted on farmers who are members of the Eleven Jurai Saiyo Organic Tea Producers Cooperative which is abbreviated as KPTO-SJS. By using a quantitative descriptive method, the survey was conducted by snowball sampling to 30 members of the cooperative, then the data was analyzed using the SEM-PLS analysis tool with Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The results showed that all variables significantly affect the awareness of farmers to join the cooperative. However, the most influential factor is the knowledge factor with a path coefficient value of 0.576, followed by characteristics, social factors and economic factors. Because all variables have a positive influence on farmers' decisions to join cooperatives, an increase in each variable will have an effect on increasing the number of farmers joining cooperatives.  So increasing farmers' knowledge is a must to improve farmers' ability to make decisions.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of government spending on multidimensional poverty in Indonesia in 2018-2020. The government expenditure used is government expenditure for housing functions, public facilities and social assistance expenditure. This research uses a quantitative approach and Tobit panel regression techniques as well as secondary data for 2018-2020. The research results show that government spending, both government spending for public facilities housing functions and social assistance spending, has a positive and significant effect on multidimensional poverty in Indonesia. This research recommends to the Government that in making expenditure policies it is necessary to examine more broadly the impact on multidimensional poverty. Furthermore, the Government needs to evaluate and review the effectiveness of policies that have been implemented to reduce poverty, especially multidimensional poverty, which can be done through budget decomposition based on programs, so that the effect of spending on poverty can be seen in more detail.

Abstract

Agricultural methane (CH₄) emissions remain a critical yet under-addressed component of global climate mitigation, particularly in tropical economies. This study investigates the long- and short-run drivers of CH₄ emissions from Indonesia’s agricultural sector between 1970 and 2022, focusing on three major sources: rice cultivation, enteric fermentation, and manure management. Using a dynamic econometric framework—including Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL), Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS), and Newey–West estimators—we quantify source-specific impacts and evaluate structural changes following post-2008 climate policy reforms. Results confirm rice cultivation as the dominant long-run contributor, where a 1% increase in CH₄ from paddy fields corresponds to a 0.72% rise in total agricultural methane emissions. Enteric fermentation and manure management also show significant effects, though to a lesser extent. A post-2008 policy dummy indicates a structural shift in emission dynamics, reflecting Indonesia’s transition toward climate-aligned agriculture through REDD+ and the National Action Plan for GHG Reduction (RAN-GRK). Short-run dynamics reveal corrective adjustments after emission shocks, highlighting system responsiveness to policy and environmental changes. The study underscores both the potential and the limitations of national mitigation efforts in reshaping long-term emission trends. Findings suggest that methane mitigation strategies—such as alternate wetting and drying (AWD) in rice farming and improved feed quality for livestock—can reduce emissions without compromising productivity. This study offers novel empirical insights for policymakers and climate practitioners seeking to integrate food security, sustainability, and low-emission agricultural development in emerging economies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects of FinTech on poverty in Indonesia using panel data from 31 provinces for the 2020–2024 period. Poverty (Pov) is measured by the percentage of the population living below the poverty line, and the FinTech Index (IF) was constructed from electronic money data and P2P lending data. To address endogeneity and omitted variables, the "Generalized Method of Moments Instrumental Variable" (IV-GMM) method uses the mobile telephone (Mob) variable and its first and second lags as instruments. Research results show that FinTech has a direct negative effect on poverty, meaning its rise tends to lower the level of poverty. However, in general, FinTech's influence on poverty is positive through direct growth and development finance, indicating that benefits are not yet evenly distributed. Therefore, the government and authorities need to strengthen regulation, improve digital finance literacy, expand productive FinTech access for low-income households and MSMEs, and strengthen digital infrastructure to promote inclusive and sustainable FinTech growth.

Abstract

Educated unemployment among young people is a serious challenge in the Indonesian labor market, especially amid increasing participation in secondary and higher education. This phenomenon is increasingly relevant to Generation Z, which is in the transition phase from education to the world of work. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the probability of educated unemployment among Generation Z in West Sumatra Province. The data used is microdata from the 2024 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) with individual Generation Z units of analysis having a minimum education level of high school or equivalent. The analysis method used is logistic regression (logit) to estimate the probability of individuals experiencing unemployment, supplemented with an interpretation of odds ratios and average marginal effects. Independent variables include education level, participation in job training, internet access, gender, status in the household, age, and region of residence. The estimation results show that diploma and bachelor's degree levels significantly increase the probability of unemployment compared to high school graduates, while participation in job training and internet access tend to reduce the probability of unemployment. Demographic factors such as gender, household status, and place of residence also play a significant role in determining the unemployment status of Generation Z. These findings indicate a mismatch between educational qualifications and labor market needs at the regional level. This study provides important policy implications related to strengthening vocational education, improving the quality of job training, and expanding access to digital-based labor market information for educated youth.
