Abstract

The prolonged conflict between Hamas and Israel has significant impacts on the social and political dynamics in various countries, including Indonesia. This study aims to analyze how this conflict affects radicalization and the development of terrorism ideology in Indonesia. The methodology employed is a qualitative approach based on narrative analysis through document studies and secondary data. This research applies the Relative Deprivation Theory to explain the dissatisfaction felt by Indonesian Muslims regarding the conditions in Palestine, and the Framing Theory to understand how the conflict narrative is framed by radical groups. The findings indicate that the narrative of Palestinian suffering and the legitimacy of jihad are used by extremist groups to recruit new members and garner support. Additionally, this phenomenon contributes to an increase in anti-Israel sentiment among Indonesian society. The findings reveal the complex relationship between international conflicts and local radicalization, which calls for more serious attention from the government in addressing potential terrorism threats arising from these sentiments.

Abstract

The communication between ex-militants and non-militants, known as the in-group, is the main key in the deradicalization programs in Indonesia. However, until now, there has been no specific communication pattern applied by ex-militants in the deradicalization process. One of the key factors in the success of the deradicalization programs is when ex-militants are willing to open up and discuss with ex-militants who have pledged their allegiance to the Republic of Indonesia. This study aims to elaborate aspects of communication patterns, especially the communication patterns carried out by Hendro Fernando, a former prisoner, in the deradicalization program. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The results showed that the communication patterns applied by Hendro Fernando, through storytelling techniques with the story of King Najasi, had significant benefits in helping the prisoners get out of radical ideology and became one of the supporting factors for the success of the deradicalization program.

Abstract

In Indonesia, acts of terrorism that attack police officers and police facilities, it can be understood that terrorist groups actually do this because of feelings of revenge and also the motive that the authorities no longer have the trust of the community that they can provide security and maintain the peace of the country's life. Several cases that have occurred in Indonesia include the attack on the Headquarters of the Indonesian National Police on March 31, 2021 and the suicide bombing that occurred at the Astana Anyar Police Station on December 7, 2022. These two tragedies are clear examples of the urgency of increasing security at police stations. Things that make terrorist attacks on police facilities and officers can be described based on the existence of exposed, vital, iconic, legitimate, destructible, occupied, near, and easy. The success of an act of terrorism depends on several factors, including the terrorist group's ability to plan and execute an attack effectively, as well as security weaknesses at the target of the attack. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to improve the security system by applying the concept of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) to prevent similar attacks in the future.

Abstract

Crowdfunding has emerged as a popular platform for collective funding of social, charitable, and commercial projects. However, its increasing use has raised concerns over potential misuse, including as a source of terrorism financing. This study investigates the relationship between donation intentions using crowdfunding and the risk of crowdfunding being used as a source of terrorism financing. Furthermore, it explores the mediating role of government intervention in this relationship. Using a Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) second-order approach, the research evaluates the interaction between donor intentions, crowdfunding risks, and government regulations. Findings reveal that while donor intentions significantly impact the risk of crowdfunding misuse for terrorism financing, the mediating role of government intervention is statistically insignificant. This suggests that regulatory measures alone may not sufficiently mitigate these risks. These findings highlight the critical need to reevaluate current strategies for preventing the misuse of crowdfunding for illicit purposes. By providing empirical evidence of the limited impact of government intervention, this study contributes valuable insights for policymakers aiming to strengthen oversight mechanisms and ensure safer crowdfunding practices in Indonesia.
