Abstract

Mathematical ability is a crucial aspect of modern life as it influences various fields such as economics, technology, and science. This study, spanning 2014-2023, examines articles on mathematical ability in leading journals. Using the bibliometric methods, it includes article searches in Scopus and Google Scholar via Publish or Perish (PoP), classification for bibliometric analysis, metadata checks, and bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer. The research shows a consistent trend in publications on mathematical ability, with minimal fluctuations and significant citation patterns. High-citation articles underscore the field’s importance in knowledge advancement. Key terms are ‘ability’, ‘mathematical ability’, and ‘student’, indicating research focus areas. However, limited author collaboration suggests potential for increased interdisciplinary synergy and knowledge sharing. These findings highlight opportunities for enhancing cross-disciplinary collaborations and research networks. They offer insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers in understanding trends, developing effective learning strategies, and encouraging further research in mathematical ability. In summary, this bibliometric study provides a comprehensive overview of the significance of mathematical ability in research, emphasizing the need for collaborative, innovative educational and research practices. It underscores the importance of further research to deepen understanding and application of mathematical ability, promoting an integrative approach in this essential field.

Abstract

Mathematics communication ability is an essential component of mathematics that students should have. However, the mathematics communication ability of students, especially in Indonesia, still needs to improve. This study offers a new and different view of mathematics communication to improve it. This study aims to develop an assessment tool for students’ mathematics communication to identify the problems so teachers can focus on improving those areas. Not only the cognitive domain of the students, but this study also includes assessments of the affective and psychomotor domains as well. The reason is that cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects are interconnected in mathematics communication. The study of these three domains is called behavior. The assessment tools consist of the mathematics communication behavior analytical rubric and appropriate mathematics test problems. This study is developmental research with three phases: the development of the analytical rubric, the development of mathematics tests, and the application. The participants in this study are two mathematics education experts and 240 students in the 8th grade from seven schools, each located in a different city. The findings of this research show that the developed assessment tools can be used to assess students’ mathematics communication behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to produce teaching materials based on the Adroid-assisted problem based learning model to improve students ' mathematical problem solving skills that are valid, practical, and effective. This is motivated by the low ability to solve mathematical problems of students from SMPN 15 and Madrasah students from previous research, as well as the lack of utilization of digital Learning media in the process of learning mathematics.  The research procedure is guided by the design of Plomp development. The development Model studied by Plomp is the initial investigation phase, the development or prototyping phase, and the research phase. The population in this study is eighth grade students MTsN 1 Padang. Data collection instruments are in the form of initial investigation phase instruments with interview guidelines, student opinion questionnaires, student test sheets. Instrument for validity test. Instrument for practicality test. Instrument for effectiveness test. The results of this study showed the assessment of the material aspects by mathematics education by 86.67%, for linguists by 93.75%, and for educational technologists by 80%. Thus obtaining an average score of 86.81% with very valid criteria. Based on the results of the practical test of teaching materials by teachers and students get an average score of 86.78% with this score included in the criteria of very practical. The score obtained from the teacher's practicality test was 85% and the student's practicality test was 88.57%.

Abstract

 Kurangnya keterampilan pemecahan masalah di kalangan siswa dibuktikan dengan kesulitan mereka dalam menangani masalah matematika secara efektif. Kurangnya akses terhadap materi pembelajaran yang mendukung memperparah masalah ini. Selain itu, integrasi teknologi yang kurang optimal dalam pendidikan matematika berkontribusi terhadap pelepasan siswa dari proses pembelajaran. sehingga diperlukan pendekatan atau model pedagogi yang mampu mengatasi tantangan-tantangan ini. Model yang diusulkan adalah Creative Problem Solving (CPS), yang dilengkapi dengan perangkat lunak G-Suite for Education. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis peserta didik. Model penelitian ini mengikuti metodologi Plomp yang meliputi tahapan penyelidikan awal, pengembangan atau prototyping, dan penilaian. Kerangka pembelajaran yang dikembangkan meliputi pemahaman masalah, perencanaan solusi, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan keefektifan model CPS berbantuan G-Suite, yang mencapai tingkat keberhasilan sebesar 84%. Selanjutnya tanggapan siswa terhadap model ini adalah positif. Kesimpulannya bahwa pemanfaatan Lembar Kerja Siswa (LKPD) berbasis model CPS dengan dukungan G-Suite meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dalam ranah pendidikan matematika. The lack of problem solving skills among students is evidenced by their difficulty in dealing with mathematical problems effectively. Lack of access to supportive learning materials exacerbates this problem. In addition, less than optimal integration of technology in mathematics education contributes to student disengagement from the learning process. so a pedagogical approach or model is needed that is able to overcome these challenges. The proposed model is Creative Problem Solving (CPS), which is equipped with G-Suite for Education software. This research aims to improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities. This research model follows the Plomp methodology which includes stages of initial investigation, development or prototyping, and assessment. The learning framework developed includes problem understanding, solution planning, implementation and evaluation. Research findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the G-Suite-assisted CPS model, achieving a success rate of 84%. Furthermore, students' responses to this model were positive. The conclusion is that the use of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on the CPS model with G-Suite support improves students' mathematical problem solving abilities in the realm of mathematics education.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis peserta didik pada tes awal kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Guru belum sepenuhnya menggunakan media pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model teknologi dan model pembelajaran yang inovatif sebagai penunjang proses pembelajaran matematika. Penggunaan video interaktif dengan menggunakan model Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) merupakan salah satu upaya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan belajar anak dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian R&D (Research and Develompment) menggunakan model Plomp. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk berupa video interaktif yang valid, praktis dan efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis peserta didik. Hasil Validasi video interaktif adalah sebesar 3,48 dengan kriteria sangat valid. Sedangkan hasil angket respon peserta didik terhadap praktikalitas video interaktif pada tahap small group evaluation dan field test sebesar 95,57% dan 96,92% dengan kriteria sangat praktis. Hasil tes akhir kemampuan pemecahan masalah diperoleh presentasi nilai yang tuntas sebesar 80%, sehingga video interaktif dengan menggunakan model CTL memiliki kriteria yang efektif. Oleh karena itu video interaktif yang dihasilkan sudah valid, praktis dan efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis peserta didik. This research was motivated by the low mathematical problem solving abilities of students in the initial test of problem solving abilities. Teachers have not fully used learning media by using technology models and innovative learning models to support the mathematics learning process. The use of interactive videos using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model is an effort to meet children's learning needs in improving mathematical problem solving abilities. This research is R&D (Research and Development) research using the Plomp model. This research aims to produce products in the form of interactive videos that are valid, practical and effective for improving students' mathematical problem solving abilities. The interactive video validation result was 3.48 with very valid criteria. Meanwhile, the results of the student response questionnaire regarding the practicality of interactive videos at the small group evaluation and field test stages were 95.57% and 96.92% with very practical criteria. The results of the final test of problem solving ability obtained a complete score presentation of 80%, so that interactive videos using the CTL model have effective criteria. Therefore, the interactive video produced is valid, practical and effective in improving students' mathematical problem solving abilities.

Abstract

Background: Many students struggle with solving mathematical problems, which prevents them from achieving learning goals. To address this issue, this study develops learning tools designed to improve these skills.Aim: The goal of this study is to create guided discovery-based mathematics learning tools that are valid, practical, and effective in enhancing students' problem-solving abilities.Method: This study uses the Plomp development model, which includes three main stages: the initial investigation, development, and evaluation phases. The focus of this research is on the development of modules and student worksheets (LKPD).Results: The validity of the products was assessed by experts in terms of content, language, and presentation, all of whom found the products to be valid and ready for use. The practicality of the tools was confirmed through feedback from both students and teachers, showing that they are very practical. The effectiveness of the tools in improving problem-solving skills was high, with an effectiveness score of 0.749.Discussion: The results indicate that the developed mathematics learning tools are valid, practical, and effective. Therefore, they can be used in the classroom without requiring significant changes.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of initial mathematics ability on the critical thinking ability of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan in solving mathematics problems. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study involved six students from class VII-D who were selected based on the initial ability test, which was categorized into high, medium, and low. The analysis focuses on four aspects of critical thinking: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. Based on the data obtained through critical thinking tests and interviews, the results showed significant variations in critical thinking ability according to students' initial ability levels. Students with high initial ability showed full mastery of all four critical thinking indicators, while students with moderate ability achieved two indicators, and students with low initial ability did not fulfil the critical thinking indicators. These results indicate that initial math ability significantly affects student's critical thinking skills in the context of mathematical problem-solving. The implications of this study provide important insights for developing educational strategies that target improving critical thinking skills, taking into account students' initial mathematical abilities.

Abstract

This study examines the level of mathematical problem-solving abilities among students, specifically focusing on contextual problems related to plane geometry. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach was employed, involving data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Problem-solving abilities were measured using a test comprising two questions. The results indicate a low level of proficiency among students of Public Junior High School 10 in Sungai Penuh City, with an average score of 22.28 and a success rate of 15.23%. These findings underscore the need for enhancing students' problem-solving skills. The critical role of teachers in the learning process and the use of effective learning media are anticipated to significantly improve students' abilities. For future research, it is recommended to conduct a deeper analysis of factors influencing these low problem-solving skills, such as curriculum, teaching methods, and the student's learning environment, and to test educational interventions that could enhance problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Berdasarkan hasil analisis pendahuluan yang dilaksanakan di MTs Lembah Gumanti, diperoleh informasi bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis peserta didik belum tercapai secara optimal. Salah satu faktor penyebabnya adalah belum tersedianya perangkat pembelajaran yang dapat memfasilitasi peserta didik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis peserta didik. Hal tersebutlah yang mendasari untuk melakukan pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran matematika berupa Rencana Pelaksanan Pembelajaran (RPP) dan Lembar Kerja Peserta didik (LKPD) berbasis Penemuan terbimbing yang memberikan kesempatan kepada peserta didik untuk dapat menemukan sendiri konsep dari materi yang dipelajari sehingga peserta didik dapat mengkomunikasikan pengetahuan tersebut baik secara lisan maupun tulisan. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, dokumentasi, angket, wawancara, dan tes kemampuan komukasi matematis. Subjek penelitian adalah peserta didik kelas VIII MTs/SMP Lembah Gumanti. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan menggunakan model Plomp yang terdiri dari fase preliminary research berupa analisis kebutuhan, analisis peserta didik, analisis kurikulum, dan analisis konsep. Pada fase prototype dilakukan perancangan produk yaitu RPP dan LKPD berbasis penemuan terbimbing, kemudian dilakukan evaluasi formatif untuk menentukan kevalidan dan kepraktisan produk. Pada fase asessment dilakukan penilaian uji praktikalitas dan uji efektivitas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperoleh perangkat pembelajaran matematika berbasis penemuan terbimbing untuk kelas VIII MTs/SMP yang memiliki karakteristik valid, praktis dan efektif.

Abstract

Salah satu tujuan pembelajaran matematika yang harus dikuasai siswa adalah kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Namun kenyataannya dilapangan siswa masih kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika, khususnya pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran matematika berbasis discovery learning yang valid, praktis dan efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Model pengembangan yang digunakan adalah model Plomp. Model ini dilakukan dalam 3 tahap. Pada tahap pertama adalah fase investigasi awal (preliminary research) dilakukan analisis kebutuhan, analisis kurikulum, analisis siswa dan analisis konsep. Pada tahap kedua adalah fase pengembangan atau pembuatan prototipe (development or prototyping phase) yang didesain sesuai dengan model discovery learning dilakukan evaluasi sendiri, validasi pakar/ahli, evaluasi satu-satu, evaluasi kelompok kecil. Pada tahap ketiga adalah fase penilaian (assessment phase) bertujuan untuk melihat keefektivan perangkat pembelajaran dengan melakukan uji lapangan kelompok besar di kelas VIII MTsN 1 Bukittinggi. Agar menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran matematika berbasis discovery learning yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. One of the goals of learning mathematics that must be mastered by students is the ability problem-solving. But the reality in the field of students is still difficult in solving math problems, especially on the matter of building a flat side room. This study aims to develop a learning device based on discovery learning mathematics that is valid, practical and effective in improving problem-solving skills. The development model used is the Plomp model. This model is done in 3 stages. In the first phase is the preliminary research phase of needs analysis, curriculum analysis, student analysis and concept analysis. In the second phase is the development or prototyping phase which is designed according to the discovery learning model by self-evaluation, expert / expert validation, one-to-one evaluation, small group evaluation. In the third stage is the assessment phase aims to see the effectiveness of learning tools by conducting large group field test in grade VIII MTsN 1 Bukittinggi. In order to produce a valid, practical, and effective learning tool based on discovery learning mathematics.
