Abstract

The role of agricultural technology is important in developing countries. However, in many cases the adoption rate of modern agricultural technology by smallholder farmers is low. Therefore, a better understanding of agricultural technology adoption determinants is important as a major component of agricultural growth. This paper is a review and synthesize of the literature related to potential factors that may constrain or encourage smallholder farmer adoption of new agricultural technologies. The determinant factors influencing smallholder farmer adoption of new technologies in developing countries vary from study to study based on contextual applicability and specific local condition. There are four major typologies of determinant factors are identified to help explain low adoption rates of particular agricultural technology in developing countries which are technology attributes, farmer or farm household characteristics, farm characteristics and institutional factors. Future policy recommendations on adoption decision should consider all those four important factors to provide better understanding of new agricultural technology adoption by smallholder farmers, resulting in improved livelihoods for smallholders. Keywords: Agricultural, technology, adoption, farmer AbstrakPeran teknologi pertanian sangat penting di negara berkembang.

Abstract

The consumption rate of milk in Indonesia is still lower than other countries in ASEAN, including Malaysia. A geographical difference makes the consumer of packaged milk of both countries have different behavior in purchasing decisions. According to the theory of planned behavior (TPB), the purchasing decision was formed by intention that is influenced by attitude toward behavior, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. Product attributes such as price, brand and packaging were also considered to influence the purchasing decision. This research aims to examine the effects of theory of planned behavior and product attribute on purchase decision of packaged liquid milk products towards Indonesian and Malaysian undergraduate students. The empirical research builds on an online survey with a sample of 200 undergraduate students. The results from the structural-equation modeling confirm that the significant variables on TPB for Indonesian students were attitude toward behavior and perceived behavioral control, and for Malaysian students were attitude toward behavior, subjective norm, and perceived behavior control. The significant variables on product attributes for Indonesian students were the brand and product quality, and there was no significant variable for Malaysian students.

Abstract

The growth and development of MSMEs are hampered due to capital constraints, so that MSMEs need other sources of capital to meet their business needs, one of which is with credit. In Muara Angke Traditional Fisheries Processing (PHPT) there are formal and informal credit institutions. The decision-making process of which credit institution will be chosen is determined by the processor's perception of the two institutions, where each institution will incur different transaction costs incurred by salted fish processors. The purpose of this study was to analyze the perceptions of salted fish processors on credit institutions and the amount of credit transaction costs incurred. The perceptual analysis uses the importance-performance analysis method and transaction costs are calculated using the transaction cost analysis method. The total sample of 72 salted fish processing business units in PHPT Muara Angke. The results showed that based on the criteria of processing perceptions of formal institutions better. This is indicated by the measurement of the average value of formal interests 4,48, the average value of the performance of formal institutions is 4,04 while the average value of the interests of non-formal institutions is 4,16 and the average value of the performance of non-formal institutions is 3,99. However, the transaction costs per loan period that must be issued by processors with formal credit (Rp 126.750) are greater than the transaction costs incurred by processors with non-formal credit (Rp 15.434). The largest transaction cost component informal credit is implementation costs (62,60 per cent), while informal credit is information costs (36,37 per cent).

Abstract

EnglishThe Coffee and Farmer Equity (CAFE) Practices is a sustainable coffee farming and handling program initiated by Starbucks Coffee Company. The CAFE Practices program offers economic benefits through increased coffee productivity and quality, better market access, and higher coffee prices. The program, however, potentially increases the production costs needed to implement better cultivation practices according to the CAFE Practices protocol. This study aims to analyze the impact of CAFE Practices program on coffee farming income in Enrekang Regency, and to track down the income impact pathways. This study used primary data from 200 coffee farmers in Enrekang Regency. The data were analyzed using the Propensity Score Matching method. The results showed that the CAFE Practices participating farmers had 18.55% higher farm income than non-CAFE Practices farmers. The change in the CAFE Practices participating farmers was due to increasing farm productivity by 16.66%, increasing production costs by 24.38%, and increasing selling prices by 2.95%. CAFE Practices farmers should be able to maintain or increase their coffee productivity and quality in order to continue to receive high incomes. They also need financial support from the government and/or Starbucks to meet the higher cost of implementing the CAFE Practices program.IndonesianCoffee and Farmer Equity (CAFE) Practices adalah program standar budi daya dan penanganan kopi berkelanjutan yang diinisiasi oleh Starbucks Coffee Company. Abstract

Prospects to attract customers to the Islamic banks do not seem to be very promising. This is mainly due to the fact that customers who had joined conventional banks arereluctant to change their accounts to Islamic banks. Customer loyalty of Islamic banks has been considered relatively low (34%) as compared to that of conventional banks. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of satisfaction and relationship marketing on loyalty. 112 eligible respondents of Islamic bank customers were collected using a designed questionnaire. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed in the analysis. Findings suggest that in the context of Islamic banks, personal characteristics have a direct impact on customer loyalty, and it does seem to be a moderating variable influence of satisfaction and relationship marketing to customer loyalty. Satisfaction does not directly affect loyalty, but it indirectly affects loyalty through relationship marketing. Keywords: customer satisfaction, relationship marketing, personal characteristics, loyalty, Islamic banks.
