Abstract

As domestic demand for organic products increases, price is a major constraint on purchasing organic products. Therefore, a large group of consumers still do not purchase organic products while some consumers purchase them regularly. The aim of this research is to examine the willingness to pay (WTP) of organic rice consumers in West Sumatera and its determinants. The research used a primary data from survey of 100 organic rice consumers of modern market in West Sumatera. The data were analysed using contingent valuation method and logistic regression. The research results showed that consumers' the willingness to pay (WTP) is different for red and white organic rice compared with what they paid for current market price of organic rice in West Sumatera. Consumers' willingness to pay for organic brown rice is 2% higher, while for organic white rice it is 0.01% lower than the offer price. The main reason consumers don't want to spend more money is that the prices offered are already quite high. The results also showed that the significant determinants of organic rice consumers' willingness to pay (WTP) are income, organic rice price and healthy lifestyle. The determinants of age, gender, education, health issues, quality, packaging and product access do not significantly influence willingness to pay for organic rice in West Sumatra. The results can be used for formulating pricing strategies of organic rice in local market.

Abstract

Dairi Regency is one of the leading coffee producers in North Sumatra. Most of the coffee farmers in Dairi Regency are engaged in contract farming (CF) with the company PT. Wahana Graha Makmur (WGM). However, the implementation of CF could have been better. This research aims to analyze the mechanisms of established CF patterns and to find out how partner farmers perceive CF in Dairi Region. The survey was conducted from June to December 2023 in Sumbul, Parbuluan and Sitinjo Districts. Respondents were 90 partners of the Cimata Makmur cooperative and 70 partners of the MPOK Catholic Church. CF patterns were analyzed using descriptive analysis, and farmer perceptions were analyzed using a Likert scale. Seven indicators were used in perception analysis: relative advantage, suitability, complexity, communication, cooperation, trust and commitment. The Mann-Whitney test was also conducted to determine differences in the perceptions of partner farmers. The results show that the CF pattern between cooperative partner farmers is a multiparty model, and the partnership pattern between church partner farmers is an intermediate model. Research also shows differences in perceptions between cooperative partner farmers and church partners. These findings provide useful information for companies as a basis for improving partnerships. Farmers' perceptions can be improved with good communication management to reduce the lack of information among partner farmers.

Abstract

Abstract

Despite the potential to grow and earn more profit through export, the seaweed sector is dealing with several difficulties, including challenges in the production faced by smallholder farmers. Farmers have managed their seaweed farming by implementing several risk management practices. This study examined the effect of farmers’ risk management practices on seaweed production and the determinants of seaweed production risk management practices. This study utilized data from a survey of 100 farmers in Takalar Regency, a key seaweed production area in Indonesia, along with insights from a focus group discussion (FGD) with seaweed experts. A Cobb-Douglas production function and logistic regression were employed. The findings unveiled that seaweed farmers’ risk management practices had positively boosted their seaweed production. The findings also highlighted that such factors as education level, farming experience, farm size, and weather risk influenced the farmers’ practices of dealing with the production risk. Understanding the effect of risk management practices on farm production and the determinants of production risk management practices could assist policymakers in designing effective policies and farmers in being more innovative in their coping strategies to mitigate production risk, leading to improved productivity and income. The prioritized risk management practices for seaweed production focused on diversifying planting locations and harvesting under hot temperatures to mitigate production risks. In contrast, practices such as changing seeds, relocating, and adjusting cultivation methods were also crucial but less widely applied.

Abstract

Increasing awareness of environmental issues, sustainable development, and the benefits of recycling underscores the significance of incorporating reverse logistics into supply chain systems. The primary objective of this study is to pinpoint the obstacles and repercussions associated with the integration of reverse logistics on the performance of supply chains by means of a methodical examination of existing literature. Employing a systematic literature review, this study scrutinized research patterns related to reverse logistics within supply chains. A total of 27 articles, spanning from 2014 to 2023, were meticulously chosen via a procedure involving identification, screening, eligibility evaluation, and analysis, with data derived from reputable sources such as Google Scholar, Scopus, and ScienceDirect. The analysis brought to light that impediments like financial constraints, inadequate understanding of reverse logistics methodologies, and absence of governmental regulations pose as major hindrances to the adoption of reverse logistics. Nonetheless, the implementation of reverse logistics has been validated to yield favorable outcomes on supply chain performance by enhancing system efficiency, cutting down expenses, boosting customer contentment, and advocating sustainable business strategies. To facilitate the execution of reverse logistics, governments ought to formulate unambiguous regulations, while enterprises can explore financial backing from investors or engage in partnerships with other stakeholders in the supply chain to secure essential funds.
