Abstract

Typical Sinjai Drink (MINAS) is made from fermented cassava, which contains alcohol of the ethanol type. Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to health problems, even death. Milk has protein and fat content that can reduce alcohol levels. This study aims to see the results of the examination of alcohol levels in MINAS based on the addition of milk and without milk. This type of research is an analytical observational with a cross section approach, the number of samples obtained in this study were 16 samples, namely 8 samples from seller A and 8 samples from seller B, each of the 8 seller samples included 4 samples with added milk and 4 samples without added milk that met the inclusion criteria in this study. The place of sample collection was carried out in Lappa Village, Sinjai Regency and sample examination was carried out at the Makassar Health Laboratory Center, South Sulawesi on 04-09 May 2023. The results showed that the average alcohol content of MINAS seller A without milk (1.6%) and milk addition (1.5%). The average alcohol content of MINAS seller B without milk (1.9%) and milk addition (1.7%). So it can be concluded that the alcohol content of MINAS with added milk is lower than MINAS without added milk, and it can be suggested for further researchers to pay attention to other factors that can affect the results of alcohol content examination. Abstract

Introduction: Mount Semeru experienced a pyroclastic flow in 2021. Volcanic material was observed heading towards Lumajang Regency. Natural resources and the environment were significantly affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru. The eruption can have both short-term and long-term impacts on the surrounding natural resources and environment. In 2023, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with Master of Disaster Management, Postgraduate School of Universitas Airlangga (MDM PGS UNAIR) implemented the Assistance for Recovery and Productivity Improvement of Natural Resources and Environment (ARPINRE) program in the areas affected by the Mount Semeru eruption, namely Lumajang Regency, East Java Province. This article aims to report the results of the ARPINRE program in Lumajang Regency. Methods: The disaster-prone area assistance was carried out based on various theories and approaches related to disaster management. These include Disaster Management, Water, Air, Sanitation, and Health (WASH) along with indicators from SPHERE.Results: Before conducting the assistance, the team conducted a study of inventory and prioritization of issues. Technical guidance activities were conducted as a follow-up to the established interventions. There were three technical guidance (I, II, III). Based on the results of pre-tests and post-tests distributed to technical guidance participants, as well as interviews with the self-sustaining community (SSC), it was concluded that there was an increase in public understanding of the importance of waste sorting and management through Integrated Waste Management Sites (IWMS) and the importance of biopores as a means of water conservation and composting. Stimulus provision, an integral part of this activity, was also carried out alongside technical guidance III. Evaluation results showed an increase in the average pre-test score from 52.67 to 65.33 in the post-test.Conclusions: Despite this increase, the average score remained low. Continued socialization about solid waste management is necessary.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a major public health issue caused by chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections. In South Sulawesi, Indonesia, the prevalence of stunting in 2024 was 23.3%. One contributing factor is chronic energy deficiency (CED) among pregnant women. The government promotes supplementary feeding (PMT) to address this. Sambusa made from milkfish (Chanos chanos) and purple sweet potato has potential as a local PMT due to its nutritional value and local availability. Methods: This experimental study used a randomized design to analyze the sensory characteristics and nutritional content of Sambusa with milkfish and purple sweet potato substitution. The organoleptic test was conducted at the Organoleptic Laboratory of Poltekkes Kemenkes Makassar, and nutrient analysis (protein, omega-3, anthocyanin) at the Integrated Biotechnology Laboratory, Hasanuddin University, during May–June 2025. Results: Sensory evaluation showed significant differences in color and texture (p<0.05) but not in aroma or taste (p>0.05). The protein content in the control (F0) and best formula (F3) was 13.88% and 13.72%, respectively. The proportion of omega-3 to total fatty acids increased from 0.74% (F0) to 0.78% (F3), and anthocyanin levels rose from 2.57 CyE/g (F0) to 7.85 CyE/g (F3). Conclusion: Substitution with milkfish and purple sweet potato influenced the sensory and nutritional qualities of Sambusa. The modification enhanced omega-3 and anthocyanin content without significantly affecting protein levels. This product shows promise as a nutritious local supplementary food for pregnant women to help prevent stunting.

Abstract

High cholesterol or dyslipidemia is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), including coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 39% of adults worldwide have total cholesterol levels above safe limits, with more than 4.4 million deaths each year directly related to increased LDL cholesterol levels and decreased HDL. Global trends show a significant increase in the prevalence of dyslipidemia in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Southeast Asia, driven by changes in diet, urbanization, and decreased physical activity. At the national level, Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) and the Indonesian Nutrition Status Study (SSGI) report show that the prevalence of high cholesterol in Indonesia has continued to increase over the past decade. This study analyzed factors affecting high cholesterol using logistic regression in groups of women and men. The variables tested included blood pressure, body weight, and fasting blood sugar. Using data from 276 employees of a public health polytechnic in Makassar (January–June 2025), separate logistic regression models for women and men revealed that blood pressure was a significant predictor in both groups (ORwomen = 6.48, ORmen = 7.04), while fasting blood sugar was significant only in women (OR = 5.26). The results show that blood pressure is a significant predictor in both groups, while fasting blood sugar is significant only in women. The model explained 50.7% of variance in women versus 39.0% in men. The prediction model shows higher accuracy in women. These findings have important implications for gender-based dyslipidemia prevention efforts.

Abstract

This systematic review synthesized recent evidence on the impact of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) on infant and maternal health, maternal knowledge, and family socioeconomic conditions. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we conducted systematic searches in PubMed, ScienceDirect, JSTOR, and Google Scholar. From 500 identified records, 10 studies published between 2020 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria. Meta-analysis showed that EBF reduced gastrointestinal infection risk in infants by 45% (OR = 0.55; 95% CI: 0.45–0.67), increased cognitive development scores by 0.35 SD compared to formula-fed infants, and reduced maternal breast cancer risk by 25%. Narrative synthesis indicated significant economic savings at the household level through reduced formula purchases and healthcare utilization. These findings underscored the importance of maternal knowledge, family support, and breastfeeding-friendly workplace policies in sustaining EBF. The review provided critical implications for global and national health policies to promote and protect EBF practices.
