Abstract

Guava (Syzygium malaccense) is a tropical fruit plant that has economic value and health benefits because it contains many active compounds that are good for the body. One way to vegetatively propagate guava is by using the grafting technique. This study aims to determine the process and success of the grafting technique on guava plants at the Horticultural Seed Development Unit of the Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Service of Medan City and used a descriptive method through direct observation in the field. The selection of rootstock and scion, grafting procedures, binding the graft, and care of grafted seedlings are all part of the study. The results showed that the guava grafting technique was successful, with scion remaining fresh and new shoots emerging after the procedure. The accuracy of the cambium meeting between the rootstock and scion, the quality of the plant material, environmental conditions, and care after grafting are all factors that influence the success of grafting. Maintaining the superior traits of the parent plant, accelerating fruiting, producing uniform seedlings, and increasing plant resistance to environmental conditions, pests, and diseases are some of the advantages of this technique. Therefore, grafting can be an effective technique for producing superior guava seedlings.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop project-based digital worksheets (E-LKPD) integrated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the topic of biodiversity to enhance students’ 21st-century skills (4Cs). The method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D model through stages of expert validation, interviews, and questionnaires, as well as data analysis using validity tests, N-Gain, and t-tests. The results showed that the E-LKPD had a very high feasibility level (≥92%) and was effective in improving 4C skills, ranging from moderately effective to effective across all aspects. The t-test revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest results (Sig. < 0.001). Additionally, the E-LKPD was rated as very engaging by students (91.60%) and very practical by teachers (95.70%). Thus, PjBL-based E-LKPD integrated with the SDGs is feasible and effective for use in biodiversity education to enhance 21st-century skills.  Keywords: Biodiversity, E-LKPD, Project-Based Learning (PjBL), SDGs, 4C Skills

Abstract

Kegiatan magang ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan memahami tahapan perbanyakan tanaman pisang barangan (Musa acuminata Colla) melalui metode kultur jaringan serta menganalisis faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi keberhasilannya. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Kultur Jaringan UPTD Benih Induk Hortikultura Gedung Johor, Medan, Sumatera Utara, pada tanggal 12 Januari hingga 12 Februari 2026. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi langsung dan praktik laboratorium secara deskriptif kualitatif.Tahapan yang dilakukan meliputi persiapan dan sterilisasi eksplan, pembuatan media Murashige and Skoog Agar (MSA), inisiasi eksplan, sub kultur, dan aklimatisasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan kultur jaringan sangat dipengaruhi oleh kualitas eksplan, kondisi aseptik, komposisi media, serta pengelolaan lingkungan selama proses kultur. Tahap sub kultur mampu meningkatkan jumlah plantlet secara signifikan, sedangkan tahap aklimatisasi menjadi fase kritis dalam penyesuaian tanaman dari kondisi in vitro ke lingkungan luar.Faktor penghambat yang ditemukan meliputi kontaminasi mikroorganisme, pencoklatan jaringan akibat oksidasi fenolik, serta stres lingkungan pada tahap aklimatisasi. Secara keseluruhan, metode kultur jaringan terbukti efektif dalam menghasilkan bibit pisang barangan yang seragam, berkualitas, dan bebas penyakit. Kegiatan magang ini juga memberikan peningkatan keterampilan teknis dan pemahaman ilmiah mahasiswa dalam bidang perbanyakan tanaman hortikultura.

Abstract

The state of science education in Grade V at SDN 105855 PTPN II Tanjung Morawa indicates that students' scientific literacy remains low, and there is limited use of instructional media that connect scientific concepts with everyday realities. Consequently, students have not fully grasped the interrelationships among science, the environment, technology, and social contexts within daily life. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach utilising the ADDIE model—comprising the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The trial involved 25 students from class VA. Findings reveal that the designed instructional material achieved excellent validity ratings. Expert assessments recorded validity scores of 92.42% from the subject matter expert, 84.33% from the media expert, and 80.00% from the language expert. Regarding practicality, feedback from both teachers and students fell into the "highly practical" category, with scores of 91.11% and 92%, respectively. Meanwhile, effectiveness testing demonstrated a significant increase in students' average scores, rising from 48.00 in the initial evaluation to 88.00 in the final evaluation. The N-Gain calculation yielded a mean score of 0.7806, falling within the high-level category. Furthermore, a one-sample t-test analysis produced a significance value of 0.000 (less than 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Ultimately, the SETS-based science instructional material covering the digestive system proved to be valid, practical, and effective in enhancing the scientific literacy skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

Keterbatasan lahan pekarangan dan kurang efisiennya penyiraman manual menjadi salah satu kendala dalam pengembangan Tanaman Obat Keluarga (TOGA) di lingkungan perkotaan. Kondisi tersebut juga dialami oleh ibu-ibu PKK Posyandu Lingkungan X Kelurahan Lalang Kecamatan Medan Sunggal yang belum memanfaatkan teknologi untuk mendukung budidaya TOGA secara optimal. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan kapasitas masyarakat melalui penerapan Internet of Things (IoT) pada sistem drip irrigation sebagai upaya meningkatkan efisiensi penyiraman dan pemanfaatan lahan sempit. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif yang meliputi observasi, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), sosialisasi, pelatihan budidaya TOGA, pelatihan penggunaan sistem drip irrigation berbasis IoT, instalasi alat, pendampingan, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan peserta dengan persentase peningkatan berkisar antara 44,8% hingga 95,0% setelah pelatihan dan pendampingan. Implementasi sistem drip irrigation berbasis IoT juga meningkatkan efisiensi penggunaan air serta mempermudah proses penyiraman tanaman. Selain menghasilkan inovasi teknis, kegiatan ini berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan literasi teknologi, partisipasi masyarakat, terbentuknya kader pengelola TOGA, serta penguatan kapasitas komunitas dalam mengelola TOGA secara berkelanjutan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknologi tepat guna berbasis IoT dapat menjadi alternatif pemberdayaan masyarakat dalam mendukung pengembangan smart agriculture skala rumah tangga di kawasan perkotaan

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of an Augmented Reality-assisted Science Game Card in enhancing students’ learning motivation on the topic of classification of living things. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The product was validated by material, design, learning, and instrument experts before being implemented with 10 students in a small-scale trial and 31 seventh-grade students in a large-scale trial. Data were collected through validation sheets, response questionnaires, learning motivation questionnaires, and observation sheets. The results showed that the developed media was feasible, obtaining validation scores of 79.5% (Valid), 90.0% (Highly Valid), 90.8% (Highly Valid), and 94.0% (Highly Valid). The media was also highly practical, with teacher and student response scores of 100%, 84.5%, and 97.4%, respectively. Furthermore, the effectiveness test indicated a significant improvement in students’ learning motivation, with a Wilcoxon significance value of 0.000, an N-Gain score of 0.701 (High), and a motivation observation score of 86.29% (Highly Motivated). Therefore, the Augmented Reality-assisted Science Game Card is feasible, practical, and effective for enhancing students’ learning motivation.
