Abstract

Abstract

Hegarmanah Village is one of the villages located in Lebak Regency, Banten with the area closest to the Warunghuni coast where sea pandan plants grow (Pandanus tectorius Park.). The sea pandan plant is a wild plant that grows a lot on the coast which is useful for withstanding the impact of the waves and has the effect of minimizing damage to the area behind the pandan vegetation. The community uses sea pandan fruit only for the leaves as raw material for making mats, but the fruit is often thrown away due to lack of knowledge. Sea pandan fruit contains secondary metabolite compounds that are beneficial for health. This community service activity (PKM) aims to increase the community's knowledge and skills in processing sea pandan fruit into herbal drinks to improve the community's health and economy. This PKM activity is carried out in the form of direct training with PKK women at Hegarmanah Village, housewife communities, Karang Taruna youth and village officials with the hope that the community can produce sea pandan juice herbal drinks sustainably and commercialize them as a typical Hegarmanah Village drink. Efforts to increase the selling value of abundant sea pandan fruit into various products with high competitiveness can be realized through continuous coaching and assistance by the community in collaboration with the team from the Pharmacy Study Program, Pakuan University.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition where growth disorders occur in children which is characterized by a child's lack of height compared to children his age. Several factors cause stunting, especially in the city of Bogor, including lack of nutritional intake in the first 1000 days of life (HPK), early marriage (39 percent), teenagers suffering from anemia (3.52 percent), pregnant women with anemia (11.8 percent ), and the Covid-19 pandemic factor that occurred during the last two years. Anemia in adolescent girls (rheumatism) has an impact on health and performance at school and can be at risk of anemia when they become pregnant mothers, causing suboptimal growth and development of the fetus, potentially causing complications in pregnancy and childbirth, as well as maternal and child death. The Blood Supplement Tablet (TTD) supplementation program for young women started in 2014 and is one of the efforts to reduce stunting. Stunting has an impact on children's growth and development both physically and cognitively, including affecting the growth and development of toddlers, less than optimal motor skills in children, and affecting learning abilities, thus affecting children's IQ. The intervention activities of the UNPAK Community Service (PKM) team on the problem of stunting were carried out on students in grades 11 and 12 of Al Falak High School, Bogor City by providing education about preventing stunting through nutritious food, anemia, blood supplements tablets (BST) containing iron (Fe)) and distribute health information media regarding stunting. It is hoped that this PKM activity will be able to increase knowledge and awareness of teenagers and expectant mothers regarding stunting.

Abstract

Excessive free radicals in the body can cause various degenerative diseases; antioxidants can reduce the impact of free radical injury. Several plants have been tested for antioxidant activity, including black cumin (Nigella sativa L.), soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.), and celery (Apium graveolens L.). Black cumin is easy to find in several finished products on the market in Indonesia alone or in combination with other ingredients, including soursop leaves and celery. This study aimed to explore the interaction of laboratory-prepared and commercial combinations of black cumin extract with soursop or celery extract. The antioxidant activity of each extract was determined, and the combined antioxidant activity was calculated. The interactions of the combinations were identified based on the interaction factor values. The antioxidant activities were measured using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) reagent. The results revealed nearly all exhibited strong antioxidant activity, except for black cumin–based commercial combination preparations, which demonstrated weak had antioxidant activity. Moreover, all combination extracts—laboratory made or commercial—had an IF value of 1. Conclusion: The combination of black cumin extract with soursop or celery leaf extract resulted in an antagonistic effect (IF 1) on the antioxidant ability.
