Abstract

The digital age has come with lots of misinformation on the internet (web 2.0). The difference between real and fake news is unclear. This paper therefore scientifically employs algorithms and the evolution tree to help in the detection of fake news. Social bots in the spread of fake news are also detected by BotOrNot.  The research employs an in-depth qualitative but informal interview with 102 participants who are internet and social media-active as well as prospective Indonesian electorates to investigate the spread and believe in fake news. The result indicates that about 91 of the informants experience the spread of fake news on daily basis, out of which 67 succumb to the truthfulness of the news. This article therefore develops a trend of battling fake news with the application of the Inoculation theory and citizen journalism as tools to eradicate fake news that may emerge before and during the 2019 election.  ‘Ohmynews’ and ‘ABC blogs’ in the South Korean 2002 general elections and the Australian 2007 Federal elections respectively will be used as models of citizen journalism to deal with fake news that may trend on the Web 2.0 (where social media application are enabled) in the 2019 Indonesian polls.

Abstract

Abstract

Disney+ Hotstar as a technology-based paid movie streaming service, of course, is required to have and create a feeling of ease while using the services offered for its users. The experience in question is that the application can be used easily and can meet the expectations of convenience for its users, as well as being able to access available content without network or advertising barriers. In addition, Disney+ Hotstar also uses several strategies to increase sales and build buyer interest to then subscribe to Disney+ Hotstar. One of them is Disney+ Hotstar in collaboration with Telkomsel to create a bundling product, where buyers can purchase packages that include a Disney+ Hotstar subscription, as well as quotas to enjoy the available services. Disney+ Hotstar also then produces original content that is considered to be able to attract the attention of potential Disney+ Hotstar customers. These original contents are only available on Disney+ Hotstar, and can only be enjoyed by Disney+ Hotstar subscribers. However, several surveys conducted in 2021 show that Disney+ Hotstar is still behind its competitors in the SVOD market. This study aims to explain the effect of perceived ease of use, perceived price value of bundling promotions, and perceived interest in original content on interest in subscribing to Disney+ Hotstar. The theory used in this study is the Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2), with a sampling technique in the form of non-probability sampling. The sample is 100 people with 1 characteristics of active SVOD users and Telkomsel users aged 18-34 years, and have never subscribed to Disney+ Hotstar before. The results of hypothesis testing with multiple regression techniques show that there is no effect of perceived ease of use, perceived price value, and perceived content interest on buying interest with a significance value of (0.083). This shows that perceived ease of use, perceived price value, and perceived content interest have no simultaneous effect on respondents' intention to subscribe to Disney+ Hotstar.

Abstract

The Selesai movie had uncovered controversy in the middle of 2021 because it was considered problematic for 3 female roles simultaneously. This study aims to understand and describe how the audience interprets the role of women as wife, mother and mistress in the Selesai movie. This study uses Stuart Hall's Audience Reception Theory. John Fiske's The Codes of Television is used to analyze the dominant meaning and Stuart Hall's reception analysis method is used to determine the meaning position of the audience. Data collection was carried out using in-depth interviews with the subjects in this study, male or female viewers who had watched the film Finish at least once. The results of the study show that in Preferred Reading, the Dominant Ideology is shown in this film is Patriarchal Ideology. Women are portrayed as guilty, selfish, weak and sexual objects. The informant brought it up. However, in the diversity of meanings there are alternative meanings that emerge, the wife is interpreted as a partner and complement of the family that still depend on the husband but it is also found that the meaning of the wife is interpreted as being able to choose differences including in the sphere of sexuality and the economy. The diversity of meanings related to mother is still dominant in child marriage, some see this as having good intentions or even disturbing their child's marriage. Mistresses are interpreted as having the right to fulfill what is not owned by a legal wife, there are those who interpret it only in the sexual sphere or in all aspects including emotional support. This study found that the dominant ideological films were not always followed by informants. Informants who reject the construction of women in the film are motivated by life experiences, new knowledge and the environment of the informants.

Abstract

Drama Korea It’s Okay to Not be Okay merupakan sebuah drama yang membahas mengenai isu kesehatan mental dengan menampilkan beragam variasi karakter gangguan jiwa.

Abstract

Abstract

Early marriage is one form of marginalization in which women have to go through various forms of communication dominance in the process of making the decision to get married. This brings many problems in the decision-making process within the household. Therefore, the aim of this research is to understand how the communication process of decision-making occurs, both before deciding to get married and during the marriage itself. Three interviewees with different marriage backgrounds will be interviewed to observe how the communication process in decision-making unfolds. The research will be conducted using Labov's narrative analysis method. The results of this study indicate that women's early marriage decisions are caused by manipulation in the form of continuous pressure to get married and threats of ending the relationship, which can change their minds. Manipulative actions also result in women willingly altering the narrative about men in front of their parents to gain their approval. After marriage, it was found that women's involvement in household decision-making is limited due to manipulation by husbands through narratives of masculinity. Furthermore, women's early marriage decisions are influenced by feelings of guilt for violating societal norms, such as unwanted pregnancies. As a result, the improper position leads to double marginalization and a lack of involvement in household decision-making after marriage. Another factor contributing to women's early marriage decisions is fulfilling their parents' wishes by entering arranged marriages, where the interests of the parents appear more important. However, after marriage, women can fully participate in household decision-making, including financial decisions, parenting styles, and reproduction, as the positions of husband and wife are equal, and there is no fixed division of roles for either spouse.

Abstract

The patriarchal culture that has developed in Indonesia deprives women of the freedom to choose their own path in life, one of which is the decision not to get married. Women, who are often confined to domestic work, are expected to marry, making the decision not to marry a difficult one due to the social pressure they face. Therefore, this study aims to narrate the experiences of informants who eventually decided not to marry. Three women were interviewed to trace their life journeys, both before and after making the decision not to marry. This research utilizes Labov's narrative method to chronicle the sequence of events experienced by each informant. The results of the study indicate that the decision not to marry occurs when women realize that marriage is a choice. It explores how women, living in a social construct that forces them to marry, are able to resist dominant culture and fight for their right to choose their own path in life. The study also reveals that the decision-making process is not instantaneous. Each informant had unique experiences observing marriage and romance within their family environment, such as parental infidelity, family economic difficulties, and failed relationships. These experiences ultimately led to a negative perception of married life, which influenced their decision not to marry. The decision-making process not to marry occurs when informants are confronted with choices and questions from their social environment regarding marriage. It is at that moment when the informants express their decision and explain the unique experiences that underlie their choice not to marry. However, not all women openly express their decision in public. The study also demonstrates that women who decide not to marry often face rejection, stigmatization, mockery, and discrimination from their social environment, which considers their decision irrational for women. Some informants choose to defend themselves and explain their perspectives that inform their decision. However, there are also informants who choose to remain silent and provide brief responses when faced with social pressure.
