Abstract

Sago is one of the most potential carbohydrate-producing food crops to support food security programs in Indonesia. The Mentawai Islands have the largest potential for sago distribution in West Sumatra Province with the highest production rate reaching 469/ton, but the progress achieved has apparently not been sufficient to improve the physical quality of the sago flour produced, so the quality of Mentawai sago flour is considered not good enough. This activity aims to utilize fermentation technology to improve the quality of sago starch as well as the introduction of innovative MOSAS (Modified Sago Starch) flour products. This field activity carried out in South Siberut District involved lecturers and students (S1 and S2) Department of Biology-Unand. The activity was carried out in the form of a survey of sago processing home industry businesses followed by counseling on ways to improve the sago processing process. By microbiological fermentation or acidification on a laboratory scale, the quality of sago flour can be improved through the use of local microorganisms in physical changes, namely lightening the color of the flour. Efforts to advance microbiological approaches through potential acidifying microorganisms can also modify sago starch into MOSAS (Modified Sago Starch) products by increasing the swelling power and solubleness of sago starch. This can be an appropriate and easy solution that can be applied in small-scale/home-based sago starch management, in order to increase the quality and quantity of sago starch production. Choosing a production location and improving management conditions through sanitation and water sources in the extraction process is one of the most important quality improvement methods in determining the development of quality, clean Mentawai sago starch management in environmentally friendly production. Fermentation technology can be used as an effort to improve the quality of Mentawai sago.

Abstract

Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) are plants that can be used for health and are grown in the yard and managed by the family. These plants are grown to meet the needs of the family for medicines for prevention and daily treatment that can be self-processed. Apart from being a medicinal plant, the use of most of these plants also often doubles as a kitchen spice and ornamental plant. Community enthusiasm for the TOGA Park in Nagari Ambuang Kapua, Padang Pariaman District is quite high. From the survey, it was found that there are many large and empty yards of residents' houses in this Nagari. Meanwhile, in the TOGA Park itself, the diversity of medicinal plant species is very limited to certain species, especially those used for cooking spices only. Medicinal plants are sometimes replaced by the presence of ornamental plants. For TOGA to be utilized by the whole community, it is necessary to develop it through rearrangement and adding to the diversity of medicinal plant species. In the initial stage, planting is concentrated in one wider location. The activities were managed by the local community, especially PKK women who were accompanied by TOGA Activists and the Andalas University Team. It is hoped that the development/propagation of plants in a variety of species will create new TOGA gardens in every yard of residents' houses and be used by the community in the fields of health, aesthetics, and the economy. Family Medicinal Plants can provide benefits to society if cultivated in the right way. The activity was carried out by direct practice with the community at the park location accompanied by TOGA Activists with the Andalas University Team. This activity also received an award rating in the creative park competition at the local sub-district level in the Republic of Indonesia Anniversary competition.

Abstract

The development of a country cannot be separated from the development of the community within that country. This study provides a practical model of the asset-based community development (ABCD) approach. A survey on community development in Vietnam is used as a basis for analysis to demonstrate the applicability of an integrated approach. The results of the research explain community vulnerability and a series of interrelated and multi-dimensional factors that contribute to poverty in the community. Research also shows the assets, capabilities, and activities of communities that enable them to cope and survive despite obstacles and disadvantages. The data also shows that the Asset Based for Community Development framework as part of integrated community driven development is a useful framework for understanding the strengths of vulnerable communities to plan and implement sustainable community development strategies..

Abstract

The soil microbiome is a complex community of microorganisms that plays an important role in the life cycle of plants, including the seed germination phase. The soil microbial community contributes to plant health and is a highly diverse complex. The soil microbial community influences plant growth in various ways, such as enhancing nutrient uptake, increasing root exudate secretion, and improving plant defense against pathogens.  Additionally, the interaction between plants and the soil microbiome is also very important. This primarily occurs in the rhizosphere, the small portion of soil where plant roots influence the microbiome through the secretion of exudates containing sugars, vitamins, organic acids, hormones, amino acids, and fatty acids. This article aims to examine the soil microbiome that plays a role in influencing seed germination as a supporting factor for sustainable agriculture. This type of research uses a literature review method. Information collection was conducted through literature studies by analyzing data from various sources over the past 10 years. The research findings indicate that microbiomes such as Azotobacter sp., Lactobacillus sp., Trichoderma sp., Bacillus subtilis, Gliocladium sp., and Beauveria bassiana can have an impact on plant germination. From the literature review conducted, it can be concluded that germination is a crucial initial stage in the life cycle of seed-bearing plants.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the strength of social capital owned by Nurdin in political contestation in 2016. This type of research is a descriptive qualitative study to explore the strength of social capital in the transformation of village head leadership. Meanwhile, the approach used is the phenomenological approach The results of this study indicate that the previous leadership style that the author limits only captures the leadership style for the period 2002-2009. During the 2002-2004 period, when Karaeng Oddang was in charge, in his leadership he tried to be more democratic, but the domination of his father (Karaeng Manna) was still strong at that time. Likewise with Aji Awaluddin 's karaeng leadership style, he was a typical leader who was considered by the community to be very good and realized democratic values during his tenure as head of Kindang village for the 2004-2009 period. In 2009-2016, this was where leadership transformation took place. Photographing Nurdin's leadership style for the period of 2009 cannot be separated from appreciation and praise. However, this criticism did not have an impact on the 2016 village head election. Nurdin won the pilkades again. Nurdin's strength of social capital in the election has won him victory. The rise of primordial sentiment among ordinary people (tumaradeka) as Nurdin's strength, and on the other hand the rise of negative stereotypes against karaeng that spread to the issue of group identity and the strong strength of social networking capital, bonding, bridging and linking greatly colored the 2016 pilakdes. Social capital security control is a selling point for Nurdin so that he can get support from the community compared to other candidates who are deemed unfit and unable to anticipate security in Kindang village.
