Abstract

This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of the 5E’s learning strategy according to the constructivist theory in the acquiring Rhetorical Taste of Quranic systems toward Non-Arabic speakers from the Department of Arabic Language at Princess Naradiwas University -Thailand. This study used an analytical-descriptive approach to determine the rhetorical taste skills of the Quranic systems. It used a semi-experimental method of the one-group design for test 5E’s learning strategy on the study group, which consisted of (24) students. To achieve the aim of this study, it designed a list of the rhetorical taste skills of the Quranic systems, then prepared a program based on the 5E’s learning strategy for the Semantics course and a rhetorical taste test. The study reached to identify 28 skills from five primary skills for the Qur’anic rhetoric. There is a statistically significant difference between the students' mean pre- and post-measurement scores. The difference was statistically significant in the (13) skills. However, the difference was not statistically significant in (15) skills. The study concluded with many recommendations and suggestions.

Abstract

هدف البحث إلى وصف سمات وخصائص المجلد الأول والمجلد الثاني من كتاب تمرين الطلاب وتحليل مزايا ومآخذ الكتاب المجلد الأول والمجلد الثاني. فالبحث من البحوث المكتبية، وهو جار على تحليل الكتاب الدراسي، وتجري على تحليل محتوى الكتاب. والمنهج المستخدم في البحث هو نوعي وصفي مع تحليل المحتوى. فالباحثة جعلت المجلد الأول والمجلد الثاني من كتاب تمرين الطلاب مادة أولى بالمساعدة على الكتب المتعلقة به لمعرفة الكتاب المدرسي الجيد. يحتوي الكتاب على القواعد الصرفية في المجلد الأول والقواعد النحوية في المجلد الثاني. وهذا يدل على تنظيم جيد فيبدأ على مستوى الكلمة ثم التراكيب أو الجملة. وتوصل البحث إلى نتائج أهمها أن من سمات وخصائص الكتاب الإيجاز والتناسب بين الدروس والتناسب بين الأسئلة في التمرين وأخذ الشواهد من القرآن الكريم وجمال الخط. ومن مزايا الكتاب أن له جداول تصريف الأفعال ويستخدم اللغة الفصيحة دون الوسيطة بأسلوب موجز إلا أنه لا يذكر أهداف الدراسة في كل درس وهو من شروط الكتاب الدراسي الجيد. ومن ملاحظة البحث يدل على أن المجلد الأول والمجلد الثاني من الكتاب من حيث المحتوى يعتبر مناسبا في استخدمه لمتعلمي اللغة العربية غير الناطقين بها بالمعاهد في المرحلة الثانوية. والمستفاد من البحث أن إخراج كتاب تمرين الطلاب مناسب في زمانه ويحتاج إلى إخراجه بشكل جديد يواكب العصر من حيث التصميم كي يساعد على رغبة الدارسين وتفاعلهم في تعلم اللغة العربية وخاصة المتعلق بالقواعد الصرفية والنحوية

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) reveal the literary language style in AlArbaeen by Imam Nawawi and the secrets behind it, 2) Extract and analyze the characteristics of the developed Bayan module. 3) Produce a Bayan textbook developed based on the study of AlArbaeen and reveal its influence for improving students; skill to understand and implement the Hadith in their daily life. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research and development research method. The result of the research showed that there is found Bayani style in Arba'in hadith. Its beauty lies in the short, firm, hyperbolic expressions in expressing meaning, proper word choice and touching personification, depicted in terms of aqidah, shariah and morals. The developed textbook is characterized by a rhetorical appreciation of Arbain's hadith text without leaving an explanation of Balagah's rules. The Bayan Science textbook products developed are valid in terms of content, design and language.

Abstract

Abstract: Translation as an interesting field of study for language teaching and as a means of communication media, mastery of translation theory as the basis for learning translation also needs to be researched. This study will describe the study of theories used in translation. This research is a literature study that uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The literature study method is used because this research is a theoretical study by collecting data from references and other scientific studies related to translation theories. There are 3 theories in various translation analyzes that are still often used: 1. Translation shift theory from J.C. Catford, 2. The Literal-Idiomatic Theory from Mildred L. Larson, and 3. Abstract

Purpose – This study analyzes the fundamental concepts of Mahmud Kamil an-Naqah’s linguistic thought and examines their implications for the development of curriculum, methods, and evaluation in Arabic language teaching for non-native speakers. Design/methods/approach – The research used a qualitative descriptive-analytical design grounded in biographical study and library research, the study examined an-Naqah’s primary works and relevant secondary literature through content analysis. Findings – The findings show that his framework is rooted in Arabic linguistics, applied linguistics, and language learning theory, with communicative language use positioned at the center of instruction. The study also finds that the four language skills are treated as integrated competencies, while grammar functions as a supporting element, and that needs analysis, learner characteristics, communicative performance, and psychological variables are central to effective Arabic instruction. The study is limited by its reliance on conceptual and literature-based analysis, without direct classroom testing of an-Naqah’s model. Further research is recommended to examine its implementation in diverse educational settings and to evaluate its effectiveness through empirical and mixed-method designs. Research Implications – These findings indicate that an-Naqah offers a practical paradigm for shifting Arabic pedagogy from rigid structural-grammatical instruction toward a more functional, contextual, and applied model.

Abstract

Background: Arabic language learning in Indonesian higher education occupies a distinctive position because it is linked not only to academic development but also to religious and cultural identity. Despite generally positive attitudes toward Arabic, many students continue to struggle with utilizing the language effectively in authentic communication. Research Objectives: This study aims to examine and explain the relationship between students’ language attitudes and their communicative performance in Arabic learning. Methodology: This study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. The quantitative phase involved 166 students from the Arabic Language Education programs at Universitas Negeri Jakarta and UIN Alauddin Makassar, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 30-item Likert-scale questionnaire and analysed through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and ANOVA. The qualitative phase involved semi-structured interviews with selected participants; these data were thematically analyzed to explain the quantitative findings. Results: The results revealed a strong and statistically significant positive correlation between language attitude and communicative performance (r = 0.650, p < 0.01). Although 57.8% of students demonstrated highly positive attitudes toward Arabic, only 17.5% achieved high communicative performance. The qualitative findings further indicated that communicative performance was influenced by educational background, institutional environment, confidence, and opportunities for authentic interaction. Unique Contribution: This study contributes empirical evidence to the literature on language attitude and communicative behaviour by examining Arabic language learning in the underexplored context of Indonesian higher education through a mixed-methods approach. Conclusion: While positive language attitudes provide a crucial foundation for Arabic proficiency, their pedagogical impact is contingent upon the availability of communicative, interactive, and contextually meaningful learning environments. Recommendations: Further studies are recommended to examine additional contextual and affective variables, such as anxiety, classroom interaction, and willingness to communicate, that may mediate the relationship between language attitude and communicative performance.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of selecting and utilizing instructional media to improve the quality of Arabic language learning, particularly in terms of students’ learning interest and outcomes. The objectives of this study are: (1) to analyze students’ interest and achievement in learning Arabic when taught using Wordwall media and flashcard media, (2) to compare the differences in interest and learning outcomes between students taught with Wordwall and those taught with flashcards, and (3) to examine the effect of Wordwall and flashcards on learning outcomes through learning interest as an intervening variable. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a comparison group post-test only design. The population consisted of all third-grade students at SDIT Plus Qurthuba Makassar, totaling 103 students, with the sample selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included questionnaires, achievement tests, observation sheets, and documentation. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that there was no significant difference in learning interest between students taught using Wordwall media and those taught using card media (p = 0.497 > 0.05), with mean scores of 83.85 in the Wordwall group and 87.75 in the card group. Similarly, there was no significant difference in learning outcomes (p = 0.522 > 0.05), with mean scores of 84.33 in the Wordwall group and 85.38 in the card group. Furthermore, learning media had no significant effect on learning outcomes (β = -0.044; p = 0.725). In contrast, learning interest was found to have a positive and significant effect on learning outcomes (β = 0.483; p < 0.01). The implications of this study indicate that improvements in learning outcomes are more influenced by internal factors, particularly students’ learning interest, rather than the type of learning media used. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to focus more on instructional strategies that enhance students’ interest and motivation in learning, rather than merely varying instructional media.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the rhetorical meanings of uslub nahyi (prohibitive expressions) in Surah Al-Isra’ through the perspective of علم المعاني (Ilmu Ma‘ani), with a focus on the selection of prohibitive diction and the semantic effects it produces. This research was conducted because uslub nahyi in the Qur’an does not merely function as a literal prohibition, but also contains rhetorical dimensions capable of shaping human moral, ethical, and psychological awareness. The study employs a qualitative approach using library research. The primary data consist of the verses containing uslub nahyi in Surah Al-Isra’, while the secondary data were obtained from books of balaghah, works on Ilmu Ma‘ani, and relevant Arabic linguistic literature. Data were collected through documentation study and analyzed descriptively and analytically by examining the context of the verses, sentence structures, and diction choices in each prohibitive form. The findings reveal that uslub nahyi in Surah Al-Isra’ carries various rhetorical meanings, such as irsyad (guidance), tahdid (threat), and taubikh (reproach). The study also finds that certain diction choices, such as “لَا تَقْرَبُوا” (“do not approach”), do not merely prohibit an act itself, but also all paths leading to it, thereby forming a preventive pattern of prohibition. The results of this study contribute to the development of Qur’anic rhetorical studies, particularly in understanding the relationship between diction selection, context, and the rhetorical purpose of the verses. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on the rhetorical dimension of diction selection in uslub nahyi within Surah Al-Isra’, rather than merely classifying its rhetorical meanings. Abstract

Al-Qur’an sebagai teks berbahasa Arab memiliki tingkat kebalaghahan yang tinggi, yang tercermin antara lain dalam fenomena al-taqdīm wa al-ta’khīr (pendahuluan dan pengakhiran unsur kalimat). Meskipun telah banyak dikaji, sebagian besar penelitian sebelumnya masih terbatas pada identifikasi bentuk gramatikal dan belum mengintegrasikan secara komprehensif antara fungsi retoris, implikasi makna, serta relevansinya dalam kerangka ʿilm al-maʿānī. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara sistematis bentuk-bentuk al-taqdīm wa al-ta’khīr dalam Al-Qur’an, mengungkap fungsi retorisnya, serta menjelaskan implikasi makna yang dihasilkan dalam perspektif balaghah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berbasis kajian pustaka (library research) dengan metode deskriptif-analitis. Data penelitian berupa ayat-ayat Al-Qur’an yang mengandung fenomena al-taqdīm wa al-ta’khīr dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling, kemudian dianalisis melalui tahapan identifikasi, klasifikasi, analisis sintaksis, analisis retoris, dan interpretasi makna berdasarkan prinsip muqtadā al-ḥāl dalam ʿilm al-maʿānī. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fenomena al-taqdīm wa al-ta’khīr muncul dalam berbagai pola, seperti pendahuluan khabar atas mubtada’, objek (maf‘ul) atas subjek (fa‘il), serta keterangan (jar wa majrūr) atas unsur lainnya, yang secara konseptual termasuk dalam kategori al-khurūj ‘an al-aṣl. Pergeseran struktur ini memiliki fungsi retoris yang beragam, antara lain untuk pembatasan makna (al-qaṣr), pengagungan (al-ta‘ẓīm), pemberian perhatian (al-ihtimām), penegasan pesan, serta penciptaan efek stilistika seperti at-tasywīq dan keserasian bunyi (al-fāṣilah). Lebih lanjut, analisis menunjukkan bahwa perubahan urutan kata berimplikasi langsung terhadap konstruksi makna, baik dalam aspek teologis, semantik, maupun pragmatik, sehingga memengaruhi pemahaman terhadap pesan ilahi dalam konteks tertentu. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dengan menawarkan pendekatan integratif yang menghubungkan analisis retoris klasik dengan perspektif linguistik modern, serta menegaskan bahwa al-taqdīm wa al-ta’khīr bukan sekadar fenomena gramatikal, melainkan perangkat interpretatif yang esensial dalam memahami kedalaman makna Al-Qur’an.
