Abstract

This research aims to analyze the livelihood assets of the COVID-19 pandemic among rainfed rice farmers in Kalampadu Village, Muara Kuang District, and Ogan Ilir Regency. This research will discuss research issues through Ellis' theory about farmers' livelihood assets. Researchers used descriptive research with a qualitative approach because the issue of rural livelihoods requires farmer subjectivity and in-depth data analysis. Data collection techniques used were participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. Researchers used a case study research strategy to identify farmers' socio-cultural-economic-ecological and farmer household assets. The research results show that farmer households have five livelihood assets: 1) natural resource capital, (2) physical capital, (3) human capital, (4) financial capital, and (5) social capital. Massive changes in the livelihood assets of farmer households in Kalampadu Village began with the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused most farmers to change professions to online trading (Lazada and Shope).

Abstract

Indonesia is among the nations with the highest number of natural disasters. This syndrome is aggravated by unbalanced information provided by the media. The media use framing to enforce information distribution rules, particularly in regards to forest and land fire reporting. Using a constructivist research methodology, this study argues that framing is the key to influencing public opinion towards actors who might be perceived positively or negatively. The results showed that mass media framing was divided into several themes. This framing explains how the mass media has an important role in disseminating disaster-related information to the public. Some evidence suggests that political competition among the local political elite contributes to the occurrence of forest fires, it’s also ensued in mass media in Indonesia. If the government is unable to enforce strong regulations on irresponsible parties, forest fires will persist. The mass media must exist as a tool to regulate its population so that they do not burn forests and land that is detrimental to the nation.

Abstract

The problem of slum settlements is still a major problem faced in Indonesia and other developing countries. One of the triggers for the emergence of slum settlements is due to the high rate of population growth, both through the birth process and the urbanization process. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Sampling used a purposive sampling method with data collection using observation techniques and in-depth interviews. Abstract

Mangrove planting has been widely recognized as an effective strategy for coastal environmental conservation. However, the success of mangrove planting programs depends not only on technical aspects but also on the active participation and understanding of local communities. The community service method used in this study was socialization. The results of this program showed that 50% of participants were very satisfied, creating a sustainable relationship between coastal communities, the government, and Sriwijaya University in efforts to maintain mangrove sustainability for a better future. In addition, the planted mangrove trees are expected to become resistant to seawater abrasion and provide habitat for fauna that serve as a source of livelihood for local fishermen in the next 10 years.

Abstract

Abstract

The objective of the study was to examine the spatial and temporal variation of the tropospheric NO2 column compared with the economic growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the satellite based tropospheric NO2 was acquired from the Aura Satellite during 2019-2021 over the South Sumatra region of Indonesia. The GIS analysis was conducted to produce the quarterly tropospheric NO2 map over the study area. In this study, the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) was used as a benchmark for economic growth. The GRDP would relate to the air pollution to identify possible anthropogenically induced NO2 pollution. The result indicated the GRDP growth significantly decreased when the tropospheric NO2 concentration experienced a great reduction during 2020 (Quarters III-IV). The economic growth reduced from 5.79 to -1.58 during 2019-2020. It was noted that during the decline in GRDP, the variation of tropospheric NO2 was decreased by about 33%.

Abstract

Gender inequality in education remains a persistent issue, with boys and girls often facing different expectations, opportunities, and treatment within learning environments. This research focuses on gender equality between girls and boys in the context of inclusive education, aiming to identify empowerment patterns that address barriers to educational access. Using quantitative methods, data were collected through questionnaires completed by students at the elementary and junior high school levels. Analysis was conducted to understand the challenges of gender disparities in educational participation. The results indicate significant differences in participation between male and female students, with boys dominating in high-intensity physical sports and girls more engaged in the arts. Additionally, there were differences in teachers' attitudes towards students based on gender. This study aims to create empowerment strategies and more inclusive education policies, providing guidance for policymakers and educational practitioners to support gender equality in the education sector.
