Abstract

Anemia is a health problem in pregnant women. Globally, there was 36,5% anemia in pregnant women (2019). Giving blood-added tablets is one of the important efforts to prevent and control anemia due to iron deficiency. Preliminary studies showed that 5 out of 15 pregnant women did not comply to consumed blood-added tablets (33.3%). The study objective was to determine the factors related to the behaviour of consuming blood-added tablets in third pregnant women at RSIA Avisena in 2022. This study has an 84 sample size and purposive sampling techniques. This study used a cross-sectional study design. The consumption of blood-added tablets is a dependent variable. The knowledge, attitudes, side effects, and husband support are independent variables. Collection data used primary data with questionnaires. Data is analyzed with bivariate analysis (the Chi-Square test). There was a relationship between knowledge (PR=3.32; 95%CI=2.03- 5.43) and there was no relationship between attitudes (PR=1.42; 95%CI=0.80-2.51) side effects (PR=1.21; 95%CI=0.78-1.88), husband support (PR=1.28; 95%CI=0.83-1.97). Hospitals should provide a leaflet explaining the tablet to increase pregnant women's knowledge. The hospital can also utilize WhatsApp groups to educate them about the benefits of Fe tablets and remind them to comply with taking Fe tablets.

Abstract

School is one place that has a risk of transmitting respiratory disease. Many students do activities in the classroom where they contact each other frequently, closely and for a long time. If the students have respiratory disease, the risk of transmission will be higher. Therefore, training the students in respiratory hygiene in SMA N 5 Depok is essential. There were 38 students in the eleventh grade who attended the offline training. This training is carried out by delivering materials and practices related to respiratory hygiene. We delivered the material with PowerPoint and did the practice with educated games. Then, we did a pre and post-test to assess the students' knowledge. The result reveals differences in knowledge before and after conducting respiratory hygiene health training. Through this activity, students can implement the cough/sneeze procedures and handwashing practice appropriately to minimize the risk of respiratory disease transmission.

Abstract

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) remain a global public health issue, with syphilis being one of the most prevalent. Syphilis, caused by Treponema pallidum, is transmitted through sexual contact and from mother to fetus. It can spread to genital tissues, causing painful sores that impact mobility, daily activities, and income among commercial sex workers (CSWs). This study examines factors associated with syphilis incidence among CSWs. A quantitative study with an observational case-control design was conducted. A total of 129 respondents were selected through purposive sampling with a 1:2 ratio between the case group (43 CSWs diagnosed with syphilis) and the control group (86 CSWs without syphilis). Secondary data were obtained from medical records, while primary data were collected using questionnaires via Google Forms. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. The findings showed significant associations between age (OR: 7.479; p = 0.034) and education level (OR: 3.304; p = 0.022) with syphilis incidence. These results highlight the importance of age and education in syphilis occurrence. Targeted health interventions, including better education and improved healthcare access for CSWs, are essential in reducing syphilis cases.

Abstract

The prevalence of smoking among children and adolescents in Indonesia has been reported to have significantly increased, with more male adolescents smoking than female adolescents. A preliminary study conducted at SMAN X, Tangerang Regency, found that 7 out of 20 male students (35%) reported smoking. The high prevalence of smoking among adolescent males could lead to more serious health issues in the future. This study aims to identify the factors associated with smoking behaviour among male adolescents at SMAN X Tangerang Regency in 2024. The study used a cross-sectional study with 72 sample sizes of male adolescents. The sampling technique used in this study was total sampling. The researcher collected data from April to August 2024. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square tests. Univariate results show the highest proportions: non-smoking behaviour (69.4%), low intention to smoke (83.3%), unsupportive social environment (56.9%), and exposure to health information (61.1%). Bivariate results reveal a relationship between intention to smoke (PR=2.86, 95%CI=1.56 to 5.25) and social support (PR=4.50, 95%CI=1.86 to 10.86) with smoking behaviour. The school should continue its efforts to prohibit smoking among students by posting posters about the dangers of smoking and signs prohibiting smoking, as well as implementing a program involving the role of guardians/parents to actively monitor and educate adolescent males about the dangers of smoking so that they do not smoke.

Abstract

Children are a vulnerable group to infectious diseases, which are the leading cause of death among them. Data from Palmerah Community Health Centre (Puskesmas Palmerah) showed that 6 of the ten most common illnesses are infectious diseases, such as colds (acute nasopharyngitis), fever, cough, flu, and gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea and gastroenteritis of presumed infectious origin). Based on these issues, it is necessary to educate children about the spread of contagious germs. This community service aims to help students understand how germs spread diseases. The activity was held at SDN 07 Palmerah for 2nd-grade students in the form of a health talk and a demonstration using a game about how germs are transmitted. The event occurred on January 30, 2024, from 8:00 to 9:00 AM WIB. The program started with an opening by the MC, followed by a pre-test where students, working in groups, placed images of locations where germs are found. After the pre-test, the session continued with a presentation on places where germs are found and how they spread a Q&A session, and a post-test. The results of the pre-test and post-test showed an increase in students' knowledge about the places where germs are found. Therefore, regular health education is necessary to prevent disease transmission among students in the classroom.
