Abstract

Although it seems straightforward, using conjunctions in recount text writing poses a serious challenge for Indonesian EFL learners who continue to use them incorrectly. This current research aims to identify and describe EFL learners’ types and causes of conjunction errors in writing recount texts. This research relays on a mixed-methods research design where 27 participants were 10th-grade EFL learners of SMK Muhammadiyah Berbah in the 2022/2023 academic year. Data were collected through documents and interviews. The collected data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. Qualitative analysis was used to discover EFL learners' types and causes of conjunction errors in writing recount text. In contrast, quantitative analysis was used to present the number and percentage of EFL learners' errors. This research shows that EFL learners make four types of errors in using conjunctions to write recount text. The types of errors consist of 55.81% omission errors, 23.25% unnecessary addition errors, 18.60% misuse errors, and 2.32% repetition errors. Ignorance of rule restrictions causes EFL learners to make errors of misuse, unnecessary addition, and excessive repetition. Meanwhile, the incomplete application of the rules caused EFL learners to make omission errors.

Abstract

Since its appearance at the end of 2019, Covid-19 has become a big problem for all countries in the world. There are many perceptions that arise in the community regarding the origin of the emergence of the Covid-19 virus, both from a scientific and conspiracy perspective. Indonesia as a country with a Muslim-majority population, there are not a few perceptions that have emerged regarding this outbreak, even from some of them linking the emergence of the virus to religion. This paper aims to find out the public's perception of the current pandemic situation from a religious point of view and the entry of information from the media as well as policies that have been carried out by the government in the process of dealing with Covid-19. The method used is to use a survey essay as a substitute for interviews with limited access to distance (social distancing). The data obtained were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of this study show that most of the public's perceptions (54%) view the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak as a test, as much as 38% see it as a disaster, and as much as 2% see it as a curse, and the rest choose not to answer. Keywords: Perception, Muslim community, Covis-19, test, calamity, curse.

The instrument for collecting data was a test. After collecting data, the researchers analyzed students’ performance by measuring the grammatical aspect of the test results. The test is about simple present tense and present continuous tense. This research shows that 10 (ten) students’ have 8 (eight) scores and 5 (five) students have 7 (seven) scores. Both are categorized in the "good" performance category. The mean average score for the student's performance in arranging jumbled words into simple sentences 7,6 is categorized as "good" performance. This research shows that students could understand most items in Subject + Verb. It is proven by the performance score percentage of 35% or 592 points. Abstract

English movies present an engrossing and immersive experience for language learners, making them an appealing medium for expanding vocabulary. This study investigates learners’ viewing habits and preferences for English movies, as well as the perceived influence of these mediums on vocabulary acquisition, efficient viewing techniques, and extra advantages beyond vocabulary building. A questionnaire that combines quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques is used in a descriptive survey approach. Descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, theme analysis, and content analysis are all used in the data analysis process to give a thorough picture of how English movies aid in vocabulary acquisition for EFL learners. The results indicate that most learners regularly watch English movies, with action movies being the most popular genre. Most participants watch English movies for an hour on average, and all respondents concur that viewing movies helps people learn new words. Most learners prefer to watch movies with subtitles because they help with vocabulary development and understanding. The results also emphasize the wider advantages of seeing English movies, such as increased motivation, better English proficiency in speaking, listening, and pronunciation, and a deeper comprehension of cultural nuances and English use in everyday situations. This current study recommends the need for greater investigation into the wider effects of English movies on English proficiency and pedagogical strategies to maximize their application in English learning-teaching environments.

Abstract

A novel may reflect the political interests and actions of the author. The author can make a story that is purposed to alter common consciousness. This article uses historicism as an interpretation theory. Historicism is used to avoid careless interpretation. With historicism, the story written in the novel is matched with historical events written in some history books. Forrest Carter writes a lot about US Civil War. He, in purpose, does not write about slavery that is commonly read as the cause of the US Civil War. He writes a lot about the murder of women and children by the northern US army soldiers in southern districts. He also writes a lot about the cooperation of his white character with a Cherokee. Above all written by Forrest Carter, the influence of his life and his political interests are seen.

Abstract

The adaptability of education systems to technological change is a critical and inevitable demand. This study explores the unpreparedness of Indonesian madrasah teachers in adapting to the ongoing digitalization of religious education. Using a grounded qualitative approach with descriptive analysis, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that teachers struggle to adapt to digital-based religious instruction, primarily due to difficulties operating technological tools. This unpreparedness is further exacerbated by limited technological infrastructure and low levels of digital literacy among teachers. As a result, the effectiveness of religious education is hindered, and instructional time is often used inefficiently. The study underscores the urgent need to improve technological infrastructure and enhance teachers’ digital competencies to better support the digital transformation of education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Ecotourism-based village tourism is a sustainable development strategy that balances economic, social, and ecological aspects. Bimomartani Village, Sleman, has the potential for reservoirs, agriculture, rural landscapes, and local culture, but is hampered by limited human resource capacity and digital promotion. This community service activity aims to formulate a collaborative strategy for ecotourism development through human resource development and digital promotion using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which involves the community in planning and reflection. Results show that training in hospitality, homestay management, tourism narratives, and digital marketing increased community engagement. The pentahelix collaborative model also strengthens the synergy between government, academics, communities, the private sector, and the media. In conclusion, a collaborative strategy based on human resources and digitalization can realize inclusive, technology-adaptive, and sustainable community ecotourism in Bimomartani Village.

Abstract

Local culture plays a strategic role in shaping and maintaining the identity of the diverse Indonesian nation. In the context of higher education, local culture does not merely function as a heritage of tradition but also as a source of values and character that can strengthen students’ national consciousness. This research aims to analyze the role of local culture as the foundation of national identity at the university and to identify strategies for implementing cultural values in the educational process and at campus life. This research employes a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), participatory observation, and document analysis to collect data. The findings indicate that the internalization of local cultural values through curriculum, student activities, and academic culture can strengthen the self-identity of students as the nation’s next generation. Thus, higher education institutions play a crucial role as agents of cultural preservation while simultaneously driving national ideology through the development of academic and non-academic programs rooted in local values. Thus, strengthening local culture in higher education is a strategic step in building a national identity that is characterized, competitive, and uniquely Indonesian.
