Abstract

Sanitation, childbearing age, number of children, and mother's age adequate is still the main challenge that has an impact on increasing the risk of stunting. This study aims to identify factors that affect the risk of stunting in children in Semarang City, Central Java Province, Indonesia, with a special focus on sanitation, childbearing age, number of children, and mother's age. The study used a linear regression research design with a sample of 383 mothers and their children in 2022. Data analysis was carried out using the ANOVA technique to evaluate the influence of independent variables on stunting risk. The results showed that sanitation (B = 1,060, p 0.001), age of delivery (B = 0.149, p = 0.018), and number of children (B = 1,027, p 0.001) had a significant positive relationship with stunting risk. In contrast, maternal age (B = -0.511, p 0.001) showed a significant negative association with stunting risk. These findings have important implications for the development of public health policies and practices, particularly in improving sanitation and nutritional interventions in young mothers and families with many children. This study makes a unique contribution by identifying specific variables that affect stunting risk in Indonesia, which can be used to develop more effective prevention strategies.

Abstract

The Sayung coast is an area subject to the direct influence of coastal disasters, particularly tidal floods. Tis research aimed to investigate the impact of tidal floods on social and economic aspects in Sayung Subdistrict. In order to achieve the aim, data collection was conducted through a systematic process comprising structured interviews carried out using a questionnaire. The research also implemented a random sampling methodology, comprising a total of 23 informants and in-depth interviews were conducted with key informants to augment its comprehensiveness. Following this, the data processing and analysis followed a mixed-method approach where quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) and grounded theory. The obtained results showed that tidal floods had a significant direct impact is able to influence physical health, employment, and property at 62.32%, 69.59% and and 65.43% respectively. Furthermore indirect impact property is able to influence property value by 62.78%,  physical health, property damages and employment can influence mental health by 71.71% and physical health, employment can affect mobility by 66.89%. The finding accounts for a new insight that tidal floods have direct and indirect impacts on the community, as examined using the mixed-method approach. The study of tidal flood impacts on poor households in Sayung Coastal, Demak, offers different findings from previous ones. Some previous studies discuss the general effects of tidal floods while disregarding the framework of the direct and indirect impacts of the floods on poor households

Abstract

The tourism sector is growing rapidly and emerging as a key driver of regional development. One approach to fostering tourism is establishing Tourism Villages, such as Panta'nakan Lolo Village, which capitalizes on its tourism potential. As a tourist village, it features iconic attractions like Ke'te Kesu. Tourism development has driven increased accommodations alongside physical and spatial changes in the settlement environment. These include new construction, spatial reorganization, and changes in tourism activities and management. This study examines spatial changes in Panta'nakan Lolo Village's settlements before and after its designation as a Tourism Village. Using a qualitative method, data were collected through field surveys, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Spatial-temporal analysis identified changes in land use patterns during 2012, 2018, and 2024. Additionally, settlement patterns were assessed using the Nearest Neighbor Analysis approach with ArcGIS software. The results reveal significant spatial transformations linked to the village’s tourism development. These changes include expanded built-up areas, integration of tourism elements into settlements, and the rise of tourism-related activities and management systems.

Abstract

The Province of Yogyakarta Special Region is one of the provinces with fairly good contraceptive program achievement. This can be seen from the 2017 IDHS data, which shows that the DIY Province has a contraceptive prevalence among married women (age 17-49 years) of 76%. However, there are still many married women in DIY who prefer to use traditional contraception over modern contraception. Many things certainly influence this decision. One possible thing related to this is gender, especially women's independence. In addition, DIY's unmet need based on the 2017 IDHS is 6.2 percent. The objectives to be achieved are to analyze the use of modern and traditional contraception according to women's participation in household decision-making in rural and urban areas and analyze unmet needs according to women's participation in household decision-making in rural and urban areas. This research is a quantitative descriptive study using the 2017 IDHS data and emphasizes the analysis of spatial variations. Women who participate or do not participate in decision-making show a higher percentage of using contraception than those not using contraception. The percentage of use of contraceptives in urban areas is more significant than in rural areas. The use of modern methods of contraception shows a higher percentage in urban areas, whether involving women's participation or not. Married women aged 15-49 who participate in decision-making in the Special Region of Yogyakarta are dominated by the unmet need for birth control. The implication is that it is necessary to maintain low fertility values through contraception that has been embedded in both rural and urban areas and gender status, as well as understanding in depth how to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

Abstract

Economics is a factor that influences the decision to have children. The cost of caring for, raising, and educating children is one aspect of managing births. However, in rural farming communities, families have the advantage of having many children. They can function as family workers in the agricultural sector. Gunungkidul Regency, a rural area of Yogyakarta with a majority agricultural sector, has a total fertility rate of 1.96 (2020 Population Census). Around 15.6 percent of Gunungkidul residents are below the poverty line. Why does Gunungkidul Regency have a low fertility phenomenon while the environment and population characteristics allow for high fertility? The results of a qualitative study of low-income families show that they do not want to inherit poverty. Limited access to education, loss of happy childhood times because they have to work, and the destruction of hopes and desires. This condition is very burdensome and hurts feelings. Education is one way to avoid being poor. The hope is to get a formal job with a steady income. Limiting births is a way for children to get maximum education. The geomorphological conditions of the mountains cause limited accessibility when there is no means of transportation. Parents do not expect their children to return the favor in the future. Caring for and raising children responsibly is a parent's obligation. Determining the number of children to have depends on the wishes and abilities of the parents.

Abstract

Tsunamis are natural hazards that have the potential to cause significant damage and losses to the South Coast of Java. As the initial foundation for local spatial planning and risk reduction, preparing a tsunami susceptibility mapping is imperative to minimize the disaster's impact. This study aims to identify the spatial distribution of tsunami susceptibility in Watukarung Village, Pacitan Regency, using the Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation (SMCE) method. The variables involved in the modeling include landform, elevation, slope, distance from the shoreline, and distance from the river. The value and weight of each factor were determined using the pairwise technique in the SMCE framework. The research results indicated that the tsunami susceptibility in Watukarung comprises four classes: safe (598.40 ha), low (9.68 ha), moderate (23.92 ha), and high (25.13 ha). The areas most prone to tsunamis are generally identified in the southern part of Watukarung, which is generally associated with beach or alluvial plain landforms, very close to shore, and low land elevation. Ironically, human settlements and coastal tourism are overgrowing in the tsunami-prone zone, highlighting that risk reduction measures must be implemented optimally to anticipate tsunami hazards. As a recommendation, further research must be carried out to comprehensively represent the tsunami risk in the Watukarung coastal region. Keyword: Tsunami, Susceptibility, Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation, Watukarung, Pacitan
