This article is about the analysis of the five poems by Kamala Das entitled An Introduction, The Looking Glass, The Sunshine Cat, The Old Playhouse and The Suicide, these poems are analyzed by combining the elements of poetry; symbol, irony, and repetition which contribute to revealing the raising awareness. The analysis is based on the concept of Feminist Literary approach by Julia Kristeva and The concept of Self-awareness from Crisp & Turner.

This study analyses the Anthony Doeers' All The Light We Cannot See (2014). This research raises the issue of sovereignty given by liberal ideology. The purpose of this research describes sovereignty that can be seen from two aspects: personal liberty and social liberty. Literature elements, such as character, conflict and setting are used in this analysis. This research analysis uses text and context based interpretation. These elements contribute to describe the extent to which character shows individual freedom and social freedom given by liberalism ideology. This study is associated with the concept of Liberalism by Leonard trewlawny Hobhouse. The results of the analysis show that even though the character has shortcomings but through the liberal understanding given, the character is able to work like normal people and inspire others.

Makalah ini adalah hasil penganalisaan novel Andrew McGahan yang berjudul The White Earth (2004). Permasalahan yang dibahas adalah bagaimana orang-orang pendatang (settler) menuntut hak mereka terhadap tanah dari tuntutan Native Title yang menyatakan bahwa pemerintah mengakui hukum dan undang-undang tentang aborigines. Tanah yang ditutntut merupakan hak aborigine karena itu adalah tanah budaya. Orang-orang white (settler) sangat rakus dengan kekuasaan khususnya tanah. Mereka menuntut hak mereka terhadap tanah tersebut karea menurut mereka tanah itu menjadi miliknya sebab mereka telah lama berkuasa dan bercocok tanam. Penelitian ini menggunakann konsep ideology dari Allhuthsser dan white supremacy. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menggunakan fictional devices seperti plot, setting dan karakter untuk mengemukan cara dan usaha yang dilakukan untuk mempertahankan harta dan tanah. Hasil dari penganalisaan ditemukan bahwa karakter menuntut property dari dua aspek, yaitu dari pemerintahan dan keluarga. Dari sisi permerintahan, menuntut property dengan cara melawan hukum dan undang-undang. Menyuarakan pendapatnya kepada pemerintah dengan tulisan-tulisan. Dia juga berusaha menyembunyikan fakta-fakta tentang aborigine seperti waterholes, bora rings, yang merupakan tempat aborigine menghabiskan waktunya. Dari sisi keluarga, dia mengusir anaknya karena dia melawan dan menolak sifat-sifat ayahnya yang rakus akan harta. Selain itu, dia juga memanfaatkan keadaan temannya yang lagi sakit demi kepentingan harta. Mewarisi harta kepada keponakannya juga dia lakukan untuk menjaga supaya harta dia tetap hidup dan dijaga.

This study analyses the issue of coming into public area done by women characters. The aims of this study are to find out how far the two women characters exposed the topic of coming into public area. Fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict), and setting are used to analyse this novel. The analysis is done through text and context-based interpretation. Those elements are analysed based on how characters are going out from domestic area and coming into public area. This study relates to the concept of Marxist-feminis by Holmstorm, C. Delphy, and Booth. The result of this study shows that the women characters success in leaving domestic and coming into public area. Though cultural condition limit them, they struggle to fight to be independent.

Skripsi ini merupakan analisa dari novel The Lowland (2013) karya Jumpha Lahiri. Permasalahan yang dibahas didalam kajian ini adalah bagaimana cara pendatang melakukan penyesuaian diri dengan lingkungan baru yang memiliki nuansa yang sangat berbeda dengan lingkungan yang mereka tinggali sebelumnya. Permasalahan dari analisa ini adalah sejauh mana karakter dalam novel ini merefleksikan cara-cara yang dilakukan untuk menyesuaian diri dengan lingkungan baru, serta seberapa besar fungsi elemen-elemen fiksi seperti karakter, setting, dan konflik berpengaruh untuk memperlihatkan cara tersebut. Tujuan dari analisa ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan cara-cara yang dilakukan pendatang dalam menyesuaikan diri terhadap lingkungan baru, dan untuk mengetahui peran karakter, setting, dan konflik dalam membantu untuk mengetahui cara-cara dalam penyesuaian diri. Metode yang dipakai adalah text-based dan context-based interpretation yang dikaitkan dengan konsep life instinct dari Sigmund Freud. Hasil dari kajian ini menunjukkan bagaimana cara pendatang menghadapi masalah yang mereka dapati selama proses penyesuaian diri melalui sikap dan perilaku dengan mengendalikan masalah, menghadapi tekanan, membangun hubungan sosial dan memperoleh tujuan. Konflik yang terjadi dari luar dan dalam diri mereka mendorong mereka untuk mencari cara agar tidak terus terjebak dalam hal tersebut.

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of showing dignity which is done by Black person and to know the contribution of the plot, spectacle, and character in revealing the showing dignity. This analysis is related to the concept of life instincts by Freud, the concept of self-awareness by Crisp-Turner and the concept of power by Michel Foucault that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the protagonist succeeds to show his dignity that can be seen from his knowledge and good manners.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) menganalisa sejauh mana ketiga puisi ini merefleksikan dampak dari consumerisme, (2) menunjukkan kontribusi elemen puisi (speker, tone, metafora) dalam mengungkap dampak consumerisme dala puisi ini. Data penelitian ini adalah teks tertulis yang dikutip dari ketiga puisi tersebut. Kutipan teks tersebut kemudian diinterpretasi dan dianalisa berdasarkan teori budaya consumer yang dikemukakan oleh Wilkie dan teori prilaku dari budaya consumer yang dirumuskan oleh Scihffman dan Kanuk . Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa budaya consumerisme tersebut memberikan dampak terhadap kehidupan manusia. Dampak tersebut yaitu mengubah pola pikir manusia dan mengubah gaya hidup manusia. This thesis is an analysis of the Novel Less (2017) by Andrew Sean Greer. The purpose of this analysis is to find out to which setting and conflict (plot) reveal the efforts of the main character in the Novel Less in dealing with problems that come to him by trying to fight and rise from failure. This analysis is related to the concept of life instinct proposed by Sigmund Freud and self-determination by Ryan and Deci. The result of this analysis shows that the main character has self-motivation and goals in his life as shown through his action in seeking his identity.

This research aimed to find out the speaking ability of students of PGSD international class along with the type of speaking difficulty found by the students. The researcher chose year 2019 of PGSD international class as the sample consists of 20 students. A speaking test in the form of interview from UPT Bahasa Universitas Negeri Padang was used in collecting the data. As the result, the speaking ability of the students were 70% fair and 30% very poor. 14 out of 20 students were in fair and 6 out of 20 were in very poor. Then, comprehension is in 23,6% as the highest percentage of students’ kind of difficulty. It is suggested to the lecturers in international class of PGSD 2019 to provide the students some extra classes of English so that they can perform the better speaking ability during the use of English as the medium in the class.

This study aimed to investigate the difficulties of 2019 English Department students of UNP (Universitas Negeri Padang) that learn English speaking through online learning during COVID-19 pandemic. The researcher chose English department students’ year 2019 as the sample and the total is 45 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire and speaking test. Results of analysis showed that vocabulary (93.3%) and fluency (93.3%) were the predominant problem that causes their difficulty in speaking English. The problem of technology (91.75%) such as no strong and stable signal, insufficient facilities, limited knowledge on using the application and limited money to buy the internet quota also seriously worsened their performance in speaking English and increased their low participation (73.3%). The findings suggest pedagogical implications for promoting the students’ speaking English and provide the good internet facilities and other networking support systems if online learning will be applied in the future.
