Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the influence of social media on tourists’ decisions to visit the Gulamo Tourist Attraction in Kampar Regency, Indonesia. Using a quantitative, causal-associative approach, data were collected from 100 respondents through structured questionnaires. Descriptive analysis revealed high perceptions of social media’s role in shaping travel behavior, particularly across five dimensions: ease of use, interactivity, entertainment, communication effectiveness, and content credibility. Inferential analysis through simple linear regression confirmed a statistically significant relationship (β = 0.682, p < 0.001), with social media explaining 65.2% of the variance in visit decisions (R² = 0.652). The findings underscore the strategic role of user-generated content and digital engagement in influencing destination choice, especially in under-promoted ecotourism sites. The study contributes to tourism marketing literature by highlighting how social media acts as an effective tool in behavioral persuasion and travel decision-making processes

Abstract

Nagari Unggan, located in Sijunjung Regency, is known as the "Weaving Village." The craft of weaving, predominantly undertaken by women, has become a specific economic opportunity for the community. However, several challenges hinder the recognition of Unggan's weaving craft. Although Unggan has tour guides, their ability to communicate effectively with foreign tourists is considered insufficient. This is significant because communication is a key factor in promoting the weaving craft. Additionally, the marketing of the weaving products remains suboptimal due to the distance and difficult access to areas outside Nagari. To address these issues, training programs focusing on enhancing English language proficiency and digital marketing skills for the residents of Nagari Unggan are proposed as solutions. These activities involve discussions, lectures, and hands-on field practices, including demonstrations on creating digital accounts and websites. The program follows a structured approach comprising preparation, implementation, and evaluation phases to ensure sustainability. The effectiveness of the program is evident from the participants' improved understanding before and after the training, with a significant difference indicated by a significance value of 0.00 for both training sessions. Strong commitment from the local government is expected to accelerate the growth of the creative economy in Unggan.

Abstract

Men and women typically communicate closely with one another. As a result, dating relationship notions are common in society, particularly among young adults. Both men and women will always have communication goals while they are in a relationship. They communicate with each other via social media in addition to in-person interactions. WhatsApp is one of the most used social media platforms in today's world. The purpose of this study was to determine whether men or women frequently utilize indirect speech when texting their partners on WhatsApp. Three couples that communicate via WhatsApp are the subjects of this study. They are between the ages of 20 and 25. Within two weeks, the data was gathered by recording their message history. According to Clark (1977), the data was analyzed by classifying it into direct and indirect speech acts. It was discovered that women are more likely than men to use indirect speech acts. Ten indirect speech acts were performed by the females of three couples, whereas only three were delivered by the man, according to three conversation histories.
