Observational methods, in-depth interviews, and visual documentation all contributed to the collection of research data. Methods of qualitative and descriptive analysis were utilized in the study of the data. The findings revealed that the appreciation of mural art was due to the creativity of the teacher in terms of shape, color, line, illustration, and the theme that was raised. Specifically, the following was the theme that was raised: first, a teacher at SDN 1 Pekanbaru characterized a simple form of the elements of natural balance as a mural object. One of them is about the image of freshness and coolness given by nature, and the importance of preserving the surrounding natural environment, such as in the mural "Come on, Preserve Nature", which is on the wall decoration for class VI-B, and the mural art for class VB is entitled "Let's Respect and Appreciate Each other's Mural Art.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of cultural arts learning (drama) using the demonstration method on theater learning in class XI F 5 at SMA Negeri 1 X Koto. The type of research used is quantitative research with an experimental method. The population in this study is all eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 X Koto for the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 164 students, with a sample of 68 students. The research instruments were the researchers themselves, assisted by writing tools and a camera. Data were collected through observation, tests (pretest and posttest), documentation, and literature study. The data were analyzed using normality tests, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and Mann–Whitney U Test. The research results show that there is a significant difference between students' learning outcomes before and after learning in the experimental class, and there is a significant difference between the posttest results of the control class and the experimental class. Thus, the working hypothesis (H₁) stating that the demonstration method affects the improvement of students' drama learning outcomes can be accepted, while the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected. These findings confirm that the demonstration method is effective for use in teaching drama at the high school level. The improvement in students' learning outcomes in the experimental class is due to the characteristics of the demonstration method, which provides students with the opportunity to directly observe examples of dialogue interpretation, expression, and role-playing techniques. Through observation and hands-on practice, students find it easier to understand the learning material, engage actively, and can develop their drama art skills more optimally. This condition makes the learning process more meaningful and has a positive impact on students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of music extracurricular activities using the drill method at SMA Negeri 5 Bukittinggi. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research instrument was the researcher themselves, assisted by notes from extracurricular activities and recordings of music practice. Data was collected through observation, interviews, literature study, and documentation. The steps in analyzing the data were data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the drill method in the mixed ensemble music extracurricular activities at SMA Negeri 5 Bukittinggi is effective in improving technical skills, fostering collaboration, and shaping students' character. This program serves as a strategic platform for developing musical talent and preserving local culture, although it still requires optimization of practice time and additional facilities for further development. The drill method has proven to improve students' technical skills in ensemble music performance. Students need 3-4 repetitions to master a pattern of play thoroughly. Through systematic repetitive practice, students develop muscle memory that allows them to execute playing techniques automatically. The variation in practice patterns applied by the instructor prevents boredom and increases student enthusiasm, making the drill method effective for mastering ensemble music skills. Music extracurricular activities also develop students' collaborative skills, which are essential in ensemble learning. This activity requires students to work together, listen to each other, and adjust the game with other group members. The peer tutoring system reinforces the value of cooperation by sharing knowledge between senior and junior students, while also building students' self-confidence and commitment to preserving local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of substitute class hours in Cultural Arts subjects focusing on singing technique enrichment in Grade IX.4 at SMP Negeri 40 Padang. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The participants included a Cultural Arts teacher and 32 Grade IX.4 students. The findings indicate that substitute class hours serve as an effective means to strengthen students’ understanding of vocal techniques, particularly breathing, articulation, intonation, and musical expression. The use of active learning strategies and formative assessment contributed to increased student engagement, motivation, and vocal performance. Despite challenges such as limited time, student fatigue, and minimal learning media, substitute classes positively supported learning achievement. The study concludes that substitute class hours can function as an effective alternative to ensure continuity in Cultural Arts learning.
