Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the dominant leadership styles applied by licensed C AFC coaches at AREMA FC Academy and ASIFA Academy in Malang City. This study is descriptive research with a quantitative approach, employing a survey method. The sample consists of coaches who are eligible for C AFC licensure, totaling 6 from AREMA FC Academy and 4 from ASIFA Academy. Data analysis in this research utilizes categorization and percentage analysis. The results indicate that the dominant leadership style among C AFC licensed coaches at ASIFA Academy in Malang City is democratic leadership with a percentage of 50%. However, the significant proportions of authoritarian, people-centered, and task-oriented styles suggest that coaches need to possess high adaptation skills. On the other hand, coaches at AREMA FC Academy exhibit a balanced adoption of all four leadership styles (authoritarian, democratic, people-centered, and task-oriented) with a percentage of 50%. This conclusion confirms that coaches at both academies need to integrate various leadership styles to meet the needs and dynamics of athlete training.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the physical condition of cricket athletes from East Java who participated in the PON Qualification Round, based on eight components of physical fitness. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 31 athletes (16 male and 15 female), measuring eight key physical fitness components: abdominal muscle strength, leg power, upper arm strength, lower back strength, upper arm endurance, abdominal endurance, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory endurance. The results showed that male athletes demonstrated good lower back strength and abdominal endurance (60%), but had weaknesses in speed and upper arm strength (70% fell into the moderate–poor category). Female athletes exhibited widespread deficiencies, particularly in the chin-up and single-leg squat tests, with 80% scoring in the low category. These suboptimal physical conditions significantly affect technical performance in cricket, including throwing, sprinting, and fielding, which demand strength, speed, and endurance. The findings suggest the need for a more targeted and specific physical training program to support the technical performance of athletes during competition

Abstract

Individual factors and school environments shape the physical fitness of elementary school students, yet comparative evidence across urban–rural contexts by gender and facility support remains limited. This study examined (1) gender-specific differences in EUROFIT performance between urban and rural schools and (2) the association between school facility support and assets (SEFEI) with students’ fitness. A cross-sectional design involved grade 4–6 students (n = 135; ages 9–12) from one urban and one rural school. Fitness was assessed using the complete EUROFIT battery, while the SEFEI index (0–7) captured availability of space, equipment, personnel, and scheduled activities. Analyses used descriptive statistics, group comparisons, and ANCOVA controlling for age and BMI. Results showed boys scored higher than girls on total EUROFIT and strength–speed components, particularly in the bent-arm hang and 10 × 5 m shuttle run. Urban–rural differences were not significant. Urban schools had higher SEFEI scores (+68%) and slightly better fitness outcomes. BMI was a significant covariate, and no sex-by-location interaction emerged. Overall, gender differences were more influential than location, and positive trends between SEFEI and EUROFIT highlight the need to improve facility access and structured physical activity programs in low-resource schools.

Abstract

Talent Identification is essential to identify the potential of young athletes to succeed in senior elite sports. This study aimed to identify talent in sports among children in Malang. This research was an observational cross-sectional study involving 356 children (68% boys) who were purposively selected in Malang city based on age criteria (age 11 years old). Several tests and measurements were conducted for talent identification, including anthropometric tests, eye-hand coordination, leg muscle power, arm muscle power, agility, speed, and VO2max. Sports talent identification was conducted based on Norm developed by Narlan and Juniar. The results were matched into a sports talent profile table according to the age and gender of the participants. Results with the sports branch profile norms were matched, if the test results were at least the same or better than the sports study program, then the child was "talented" in that sport. The results of data analysis showed that two children (0.56%) were in the potential category, 58 children (16.29%) were in the moderately potential category, 172 children (48.31%) were in the low potential category, and 124 children (34.83 %) were included in the non-potential category. Judo, triple jump, long jump, high jump, javelin throw, table tennis, and shot put were sports identified as gifted by children in the categories of potential, moderate, and low potential. The results of the study report that children have the potential to be able to excel in Judo, triple jump, long jump, high jump, javelin throw, table tennis, and shot put.
