Abstract

This study aims to get individuals selected of some soybean Glycine max L. (Merrill) M5 generation with character resistant stem rot disease Athelia rolfsii (Curzi)and high production. This research was conducted in Plant Disease Laboratory and experimental field Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Sumatera Utara Medan, Indonesia. This research was conducted from December 2016 until July 2017. In this study using augmented design. The treatments were 15 mutant lines, the check variety were Anjasmoro, Agromulyo, and Kipas Putih varieties. The results showed that the appearance of agronomic characters observed in the inoculated medium of the fungus causes stem rot disease is lower than the optimum field without inoculation of fungus. Differences in the means values of the mutant line are in the larger stem diameter character of plant than with the inoculation of fungus.  Broad sense heritability values were found in the number of pods per plant, number of seeds per plant, and seed weight per plant on the inoculated medium of the fungus and the optimum field. Selection performed on population M5resulted 7 individuals with high production character and 62 individuals with tolerance of stem rot disease character.

Abstract

This research aims to see changes in morphology variability of shallot(Allium ascalonicum L.)  due to colchicine and gamma irradiation. This research was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture University of Sumatera Utara, Medan with the altitude of 32 m above sea level from april to june 2017. This research used plant material of shallot bulb from Marlumba accession. The data were analyzed using t-analysis. Percentage of germination, plant length, number of leaves, number of tillers, bulb diameter, wet bulb weight, dry bulb weight and number of chromosomes. The results showed the treatment of colchicine 6 ppm and 6 gray gamma irradiation effect the changes parameters of plant length, number of leaves, number of tillers, bulb diameter, wet bulb weight, dry bulb weight and number of chromosomes.  6 ppm colchicine treatment showed increasing plant productivity, increase the average length of plant, the number of leaves, number of tillers, bulb diameter, wet bulb weight, dry bulb weight and number of chromosomes. 6 gray gamma irradiation treatment resulted decreasing in plant productivity, lowering plant length, number of leaves, bulb diameter,  number of tillers, bulb diameter, wet bulb weight and dry bulb weight.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic relationship of several genotypes of coconut in Silau Laut district Asahan regency Sumatera Utara. The research was conducted from April to Mei 2017 by survey method based on coconut descriptor of International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) with sampling technique using accidental sampling. This result of research showed that in Silau Laut district there were 27 genotypes of coconut been identified. The result of morphologycal characteristics for crown shape (spherical, hemispherical, X-shaped ‘silhouette’), flower shape (normal and additional spathes or bracts), fruit shape (oblong, ovoid, angled, round), nut shape (pointed, ovoid, almost round, oblate). The closest phylogenetic relationship is G41 and G42 with coefficient dissimilarity 3,00 and farthest phylogenetic relationship is G40 and G45 with coefficient dissimilarity 12,53. The result of dendogam showed at scale 18 was formed 5 goups. Phylogenetic relationship of between genotypes of coconut in Silau Laut district Asahan regency still have a close level relationship.

Abstract

Inventory and identification of  species taro’s from genus Colocasia and Xanthosoma in Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai regency. Supervised by Ir. Emmy Harso Kardhinata M.Sc., and Dr. Diana Sofia Hanafiah SP, MP., The purpose of the research is to inventory and identify of species taro’s from genus Colocasia and Xanthosoma in Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai regency. The research was conducted in Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai regency from May 2017 to August 2017. The research was dessigned by descriptive methode and the samples were collected based on accidental sampling technique. Morfological characteristic of taro were based on UPOV (International Union For The Protection Of New Varieties of Plant). The result showed that there were 11 genotip of taro. In the district Biru-biru, STM Hilir, and Dolok Masihul that included the highlands there were 5 genotip of taro are genotip 3, genotip 4, genotip 5, genotip 6, and genotip 7. In the district Patumbak that included the lowland there were 2 genotip of taro are genotip 1 and genotip 2. In the district Pantai Cermin and Perbaungan that included the beach there were 4 genotip of taro are genotip 8, genotip 9, genotip 10 and genotip 11.  Some species of taro grow wild and have not been cultivated by peoples.

Abstract

The aims of research was to study the response and heritability of oil palm type of seedling K++ and K-- to KCl fertilizer application in pre nursery. This research was conducted at PT. Socfindo Bangun Bandar, Martebing Village, Dolok Masihul District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Province of North Sumatera, with an altitude of  ±60 meters above sea level, starting from February 2017 until May 2017 using Randomized Block Design with 2 factors of treatment: seed type (K++ and K--) and aplication of KCl fertilizer (0 g, 0.15 g and 0.30 g)/seedlings. The data obtained were analyzed using a verbal examination and continued by Duncan's multiple-range test. The parameters observed were plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, the element of potassium nutrients on the soil and the element of potassium nutrient in the leaves. The results showed that the seed type treatment was significantly different from the plant height, leaf number, and stem diameter. The treatment of KCl fertilizer dose did not significantly affect all parameters. The interaction between the two treatments did not significantly affect all parameters. Parameter of plant height, leaf number and stem diameter showed high heritability value.

Abstract

The research aimed to get The Parameter genetic of the generation  crossed F4 Soybean Detam-2  and Grobogan . The research was conducted at experimental field of college of Agriculture USU in March 2017 up to August 2017. The parameters observed were : the days of flowering, the time of harvested, the plant height, the number of primary branches,the number seeds  per plant, the weight of 100 seeds. The result showed that there were nineteen sample of genotype that have the character of time early ripening and high production Soybean plant F4 each row of the best result of crossed.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan komponen hasil dan parameter genetik pada generasi M3 rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.). Penelitian ini dilakukan di Fakultas Pertanian USU, Medan dengan ketinggian tempat 32 m diatas permukaan laut dimulai dari bulan Desember 2017 sampai Mei 2018. Penelitian ini menggunakan benih populasi mutan generasi M3 yang berasal dari varietas Roselindo 2 yang telah diiradiasi sinar gamma pada penelitian sebelumnya. Data yang didapatkan diuji dengan menggunakan analisis uji-t. Parameter yang diamati adalah persentase perkecambahan, tinggi tanaman, jumlah cabang, diameter kanopi, diameter kelopak bunga, bobot buah per tanaman, bobot kelopak bunga per tanaman, jumlah kelopak bunga per tanaman, umur berbunga dan umur panen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya perbedaan komponen hasil pada karakter pengamatan yaitu bobot kelopak bunga dan jumlah kelopak bunga pada populasi kontrol dibandingkan populasi 450 Gy

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendapatkan individu terpilih pada generasi F5 kedelai berdasarkan karakter produksi tinggi hasil persilangan Detam-2 dengan Grobogan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Lahan Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan dengan ketinggian tempat ± 32 m diatas permukaan  laut. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret sampai Juli 2018. Parameter yang diamati adalah umur berbunga, tinggi tanaman, jumlah cabang primer, umur panen, jumlah polong per tanaman, jumlah polong berisi per tanaman, jumlah biji per tanaman, bobot biji per tanaman dan bobot 100 biji. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat 23 sampel genotipe yang memiliki produksi tinggi. Seleksi pedigree yang dilakukan pada tanaman kedelai generasi F5 masing-masing famili terbaik dari hasil persilangan.

Abstract

Background: One of the common frequently performed procedures in dentistry is tooth extraction. After tooth extraction, a series of biological events occurs in the alveolar socket that ultimately results in healing of the socket. Binahong (Anredera cordifolia) is an herbaceous plant that contains active compounds that may accelerate the wound healing process. Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of 3% binahong leaf extract gel on the healing process of the postextraction wound. Methods: 3% binahong leaf extract gel was prepared with the composition of 1 g carbopol, 1 g hydroxypropilmethylcellulose (HPMC), 4 g glycerin, 3 g triethanolamine (TEA), 0.04 g Nipagin, 0.04 g Nipasol, 1.2 g binahong leaf extract and Aq ad 40 g. A total of 18 people were subjected to tooth extraction and were then divided into two groups, with nine people in the binahong group and nine in the control group. Following that, residual socket volume (RSV) was examined on days 3, 7 and 14 after the extraction in both the binahong and control groups. The RSV value was obtained by calculating the mesiodistal x bucolingual width x the depth probing and measured using a calliper and probe. Repeated analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Friedman test followed by Wilcoxon and dependent t-test (p<0.05) were used to analyse data. Results: Significant difference in the mean RSV between the control and binahong groups was observed on days 3, 7 and 14 post tooth extraction. The RSV value in the binahong group was lower when compared to the control group (p <0.05). Conclusion: 3% binahong leaf extract gel can accelerate the process of healing socket wounds.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to know the degree of residual stand damages caused by conventional timber harvesting and reduced impact logging in natural forest. The study showed that degree of residual stand damages based on tree population in conventional timber harvesting and reduced impact logging was 33.15% and 19.53% respectively. Based on the size injury of every individual tree, the degree of the trees  damages caused by timber harvesting in conventional timber harvesting and reduced impact logging  is as follow : trees heavy injury was 64.66% and 57.20%, trees medium injury was 20.30% and 24.00% and trees light injury was 15.03% and 18.80% respectively. These research results indicate that conventional timber harvesting in the tropical natural forest caused heavier damage on residual stand when compared with a reduced impact logging.
